[At any point during the month you may come across the community gardens in the Town and see a couple of different set-ups.

For one thing, someone created a sign painted with purple paint that reads "FLOWER CROWNS HERE."

For another thing, there are bushels and bouquets of different kinds of plants and flowers that have their color restored that have been gathered.

And finally, there are smaller slips of paper that read "RED", "YELLOW", and "BLUE."

At least once a day people passing by the garden will find John sitting there and monitoring the situation. Anyone who approaches will be greeted with a large grin and a wave.]

You saw the forum, right? I thought we could all make this a little easier on each other.

[John saves Okuyasu's life personally, because there was no way he was going to go around and pick his own flowers to make these dopey crowns. "Make" is a pretty loose interpretation, too, as is "crown"... He doesn't know how to do this, and as much as several people including his own girlfriend are offering to teach others to do so, uh—

It's Okuyasu, does he ever see anything amiss with his own creative pursuits? No, of course not. So he's got some crowns here, sort of. They are all literally just four flowers tied together end to end, and the couple flowers popped off their stems that he's abandoned sadly to the ground nearby indicate that despite all odds and appearances, he has put effort into this. Some effort.

[It doesn't take long before Prompto's sitting cross-legged in the garden, a pile of varicolored irises beside him and some springy greens in his lap so that he can build the frame for the crown itself. He hums as he works, tying flowers to the crown with a bit of red thread when they won't stay and trying to hide the evidence with more flowers. The results aren't the most elegant, but he's managed to clump a lot of the blooms together on one side to make the asymmetry he likes in his own style.

Looks like he must find a lot of people worthy, because once Prompto finishes one crown, he only grins and sets it aside to start on the next. He'll be at this a while.

His crowns are largely blue-purple, with accents of white and yellow here and there, besides the red thread.]

[ dave probably idles around when john's there specifically, but he's also been hanging out a lot ever since the pumpkins started growing colorful, so. and he spends like half his time around the community gardens anyway...

it's pretty easy to find him cross-legged on the grass, a heap of flowers nearby, trying carefully to thread them together.

it's also easy to hear what he's saying: ]

[ eventually he gets the hang of it and his hands move more quickly and confidently, making crowns like he didn't spend basically an entire day going WHY!!!! at them (or more). dave tends to choose the brightest colored flowers available and doesn't worry if they match, just weaving them together in bizarre shapes that can still be balanced on a head.

...maybe he shouldn't have learned this, actually, but he'll offer one out to you anyway. ]

[Izuku leans over toward him, setting the flower crown he just finished aside and then dropping a handful of new flowers onto Dave's lap.]

[If anything, Izuku definitely takes the "grab some flowers" part to heart. He's surrounded by several piles of colorful flowers, and after making so many flower crowns for his friends in the previous months, he's basically a pro at this.

There's a growing stack of flower crowns beside him, with two main variations: white lilies mixed with orange peonies and red roses mixed with purple lavender. Though he's diligently threading the flower stems together--of course taking the time to snip the thorns off the roses--Izuku'll look up whenever someone approaches him or sits beside him.]

Hey....juuuuust a second. [And with a flourish and a bright grin, he finishes the flower crown he's working on and deposits it carefully on your head.] There. Perfect!

[Okuyasu is not holding still to get a flower crown, nor is he sitting down beside Izuku - maybe he'll do those things in a second, begrudgingly, flower crowns are so not his brand - but instead he's coming up behind Izuku and dropping something clumsily made onto his head without announcing himself at all. It's made with affection, probably? Something like that...

And then he kind of nudges Izuku in the back with his knee, you know, gently. Hey freckles what's up.]

[ This is new, but making things to give to others? That's certainly not new. Aqua is here, sitting a bit off to the side. She's pretty good with her hands, it seems, and she looks content to just sit quietly and work. Of course, if anyone drops by, she looks up with a smile. ]

[When Ryuu finds the garden, he greets John, and takes a look around at the different colors. He remembered asking around when they did a photo shoot that had flower crowns, he was able to pick up some lessons that he hoped he remembered.

Ryuu sat down and slowly started to work on the flowers crowns when he finished one he carefully placed it aside before starting on another one. It wasn't long before he had a small group of flower crowns next to him. There's a small pile that's red and blue, one that's red and yellow, and the one in his hands is blue and yellow.

He looked up when someone comes by and gestured to the ones by him with a smile.]

Would you like one? You can pick any color you want! Or if you want another one I can finish that soon.

[Guren's got a collection of a few on his head already, but hey, if he's helping people out by accepting them, then he can't turn any of them down. He pauses when he's spoken to, and then crouches down to take one of the blue and red ones.]

[Keigo has never made a flower crown before, only worn one during a childhood game of "Mizuho has the little sister she always wanted", but he figures it can't be that hard. This set-up with all the supplies waiting for him just makes it that much easier.

He was very wrong. Every flower he tries to connect twists away from the crown and he's left with a pile of broken-stemmed flowers and no choice but to yell at them.]

[You know, as kind of stupid as Summer may find this whole flower crown thing generally, there are far worse ways of completing a quest and consequently she's not going to complain about it.

She seems to be doing a fair job of winding together crowns out of ivy, though she's going the "wrap together a wreath-like circlet and then stuff flowers in it" route, and as tends to be typical for Summer, she's talking to herself while she works: ]

Okay, so red roses are just straight up "love", tulips are "you have beautiful eyes". Lilies are...death or something? Yeah, that's a great bouquet to give somebody. Hey, chum, go die already.

[She riffles through the flowers at her side, eventually picking out an iris, which she regards thoughtfully.]

Irises are...fuck. Messages? Iris was a messenger. Something like that. Sure, let's do those, then.

[The whole setup in the garden had absolutely delighted Estelle, honestly. She'd very quickly set about making herself comfortable in a grassy corner, small piles of flowers gathered and chosen with care left to rest around her while she worked. Surprisingly, she doesn't fail at the somewhat careful work of making flower crowns, and when the chosen flowers aren't quite sturdy enough, she'll use leafy green ivy to make the core of the crowns, weaving flowers into it as she goes. Occasionally she's even embellishing with..... blue feathers? Where did she get those?

She's definitely making several-- there are a few specific ones, made for people she has in mind to give crowns to, but she'll also happily plop one on the head of any friend she spots nearby joining in on the fun with a wide grin.]

[ Naturally, Joshua's staked out his spot near Estelle, and what his creations lack in personality, they at least have in competence. He's not winning any creativity prizes, but he's confident he's made something that isn't going to fall apart when he tries to put it on someone's head.

[ Flower crown making seems relatively easy, and Crowley's a fan of anything done that can be done simply; lazy, but he'll argue that it's for conserving energy. Of course, this all based off of assumption and confidence, and anyone familiar would know that a gamble like this with hardly any experience is a gamble.

Cross-legged, he's got a hideous bundle of lavenders and roses that is making some poor attempt at being a crown. And anyone close enough may just hear the subtle sound of the vines tearing -- well that's great. This is fine. ]

[Once he finally has some crowns ready to go, he approaches someone. It could be someone he knows or not, but either way, it goes about the same: Akira walks up, one hand in his pocket and the other holding out the crown, eyes elsewhere.]

[ Joshua is not exactly a flower crown kind of guy himself, but he is a quick study and tends to be good at nearly everything he tries his hand at, so long as it doesn't involve any kind of emotional competence or honesty. (Which probably has something to do with his flower crowns coming out well-constructed but...lacking that spark that some people seem to be pulling off with theirs.)

So, when he notices Akira's struggle, he drops in a spot next to him. ]

Feel free to ask her how the heck she's making it look so easy, because seriously, she is churning these things out one after the other. Fancy crowns, simple crowns, colorful crowns, monochrome crowns— you name it, she's made it.

Or maybe you don't want to ask her for help? That's cool. If she spots someone struggling, she'll put her current project on hold in order to wander over and offer her expert opinion. ...But, like, in a nice way.]

Choosing to go with something more traditional, she's opted for bright yellow daffodils, threading the stems through carefully and then finishing off with small sprigs of lavender.]

[Riku's been a little wary of the quests given some of the warnings he received weeks ago. But after seeing the options, he was curious about the least dangerous one. It would be interesting to see what happens when he completes one.

So when he catches word of the setup to help others complete it, Riku heads over, grabs a few flowers and sits a little further away from others. To say that he's a little embarrassed about doing this might be an understatement, and there's an obvious blush on his cheeks for a few minutes. But after a little while, he's weaving the stems and strands of colorful and monochrome flowers together.

God, this is so embarrassing but he's going to do it!]

II. Giving/Receiving

[If Riku is so embarrassed about making these crowns, he sure as hell is embarrassed about giving them out.

When he sees someone he recognizes, whatever they're doing, he'll creep up behind them as quiet as he can be, and gently place the crown on their head. They're a little lopsided, but full of blooms.

Riku retreats in the opposite direction, quick as can be with his hands in his pockets and a blush full on his face. Feel free to call him out, or sneak a crown on his head too.]

[Riku, you can't just walk off like that! Izuku reaches up and touches the flowers on his head, blinks, and then seems to snap out of his confusion when he sees the culprit making a hasty retreat.]

[Riku isn't a stranger to flower crowns, given that he's worn one before for a particular project, but making them is a first. After all, due to his health as a child, he was always scolded when he got close to them. The pollen could still be an issue, if there's too much of it....

But that doesn't matter right now, because there are flower crowns to make! Sitting under the shade of a tree, Riku's concentrating awfully hard on creating the best flower crowns he can. And they actually aren't too bad! He has some sort of artistic sense, for what it's worth.... But the moment anyone walks by, he'll immediately drop what he's doing to offer a cheery wave.]

Do you want to make one too? Come on! It'll be more fun if we make them together!

II. Giving (or accepting)!

[Do you know what's better than asking people if they want a flower crown? Running around and putting them on people's heads. Maybe they looked like they could use one, or maybe they already have one or two. But the more the merrier, right? That saying definitely applies to flower crowns too!

Regardless, once he's fashioned a crown upon someone's head, he'll circle around to get a good view of them and smile almost too brightly.]

[How could anyone reject a smile like that? And better yet, there's always the opportunity to drop a flower crown on his head in return. Seriously, who wouldn't want a crown full of flowers?]

[Ryouma hasn't an earthly clue how to make flower crowns. The name gives enough hints as to what they are, though, so really since he has that idea it shouldn't be too hard. Right?

Well, even if it isn't, he's certainly going to make a good effort.

And how fortuitous that as he's making his way downtown toward whatever nature is closest, someone calls out to offer to make some crowns with him. Perfect.]

[ Joshua approaches making flower crowns the way he approaches most things - he's very calmly and studiously twining flowers together, and the couple of finished articles sitting next to him are neatly constructed and perfectly color-coordinated.

Honestly, a few flaws would probably give them a little more personality, but he's always been better at grasping the mechanics of a situation than the feeling of it. ]

[Being from, you know, medieval Japan means that he's kind of Behind The Times as far as the flower crown meme goes. He actually happens upon the community garden somewhat by accident, but once he does, he supposes he might as well. Ginko has a fairly steady hand, so he does a decent job stringing the flowers together, though they don't look like too much. Mountain hobos aren't great at having strong aesthetic sensibilities, ok. If you seem like you know what you're doing, though, Ginko might pause in his work to ask:]

[Of course, making the flower crowns is the easy part. He has no idea what makes someone "worthy" to receive such a thing, given that 1) he doesn't really have much context for what the point of them even is 1) he's fairly new, and hasn't exactly proactively sought out connections.

So he's got an ... uh ... increasing pile of crowns that he's clearly not particularly sure what to do with. Perhaps you might be inclined to ask him for one, or if he has anyone in mind?

Or perhaps he'll ask for your thoughts instead, if you seem to be comfortable distributing these crowns and happen to pass by.]

Could you explain more about the significance of these "crowns"? I'm afraid I'm not certain what is meant by someone "worthy" of them.

I don't think it's something that requires that much thought. [Ginko!! don't be so serious!!] I've given some to people I think are worthy of a good scare, or worthy of a good prank. I think other people are being far more sentimental about the meaning though.

which is to say he sure made more than three flower crowns and there's a small pile of them forming next to him where he's seated on the ground. it's clear which ones are the starting ones and now that he's gotten the hang of it, the crowns are getting more and more elaborate. pinterest has got nothing on his overzealous ass.

in his defense, it's nice and soothing busywork.

he seems completely absorbed in it, but anyone who wanders close enough will be addressed even though he doesn't budge an inch or look up from his work. ]

[So while he's monitoring everybody who comes through and even handing out flowers to anyone who seems to need some extra, John...is not that crafty. In fact, he's actually kind of bad at this? He's pretty bad at this and he can be found sitting on the ground with a pile of flowers in his lap and his expression scrunched in concentration while he tries to weave the flowers together.

They instantly fall apart in his hands though and he sighs loudly.]

[Eventually he figures it out. They're not perfect by any stretch of the imagination and in fact they're kind of lopsided, but slowly he begins to create a tiny pile of crowns. It doesn't even matter who you are because the moment he spots anyone he grins and holds up a crown.]

[Flower crowns are a very strange creation, Ginko has found. His own aren't particularly poorly constructed, but they are vaguely stiff--either filled with too many flowers or not enough, and without much of an eye for aesthetics about them.

He's got a look of concentration on his face as he tries to tie off one part of it only for the flower he's using to rip.]

[ there are definitely a lot of people here who have no sense of how a flower crown should be built, and zelda can't really blame them. she wasn't the best at it either until her mother taught her. and she can't quite stand to watch sora struggle after she notices that, despite his best efforts, he isn't quite getting anywhere. ]
