[OPEN] Flower gleam and glow
WHO: Everyone in the Town
WHERE: The community garden(s)
WHEN: Anytime in August
WHAT: Flower crowns! Teach each other to make flower crowns, exchange them with each other, succeed in questing
WARNINGS: No
[At any point during the month you may come across the community gardens in the Town and see a couple of different set-ups.
For one thing, someone created a sign painted with purple paint that reads "FLOWER CROWNS HERE."
For another thing, there are bushels and bouquets of different kinds of plants and flowers that have their color restored that have been gathered.
And finally, there are smaller slips of paper that read "RED", "YELLOW", and "BLUE."
At least once a day people passing by the garden will find John sitting there and monitoring the situation. Anyone who approaches will be greeted with a large grin and a wave.]
You saw the forum, right? I thought we could all make this a little easier on each other.
[Grab some flowers and some friends! Questing has never been so easy.]
[ooc: Hello! For ease of use to complete quest 23, this is an open log that people can consolidate and thread with each other! Please feel free to label in the subject what color your character is, thread out making and gifting crowns to each other, and have fun!]

Maybe we should start from the very beginning? I can make one, and you can follow along.
no subject
[ At least she's taking this failure well. ]
no subject
[Ochako throws that out there as quickly as possibly, because good God, she'd never even think to say that something someone worked hard on is terrible? Perish the thought!]
I just think it's good to start with practicing the basics, you know? And then, when you can do the easy stuff without even thinking about it, you can learn how to do the harder stuff! Like... adding in even more flowers!
no subject
[ she'll be a good student, at least. ]
no subject
We can always pick more, so don't worry about it, Maya-san! I'm sure you'll pick this up in no time.
[Because Maya is smart, and cool, and, like, a billion other things, but for now Ochako just focuses on her flowers of choice—irises—and selects three perfect specimens.]
You want to make sure the stems are almost the same length, okay? And then you twist one of them around the others [Like so!] before you start braiding them all together. [And she begins... weaving them together! Slowly!] It's just like braiding your hair— you have to pull tightly, but not too tightly, and you have to keep adding new pieces as you go.
no subject
[ Maya's ultimately lazy with her hair and braids, but she can understand the principle of it well enough. So having the same length makes it a little easier-- that makes sense.
Give her a minute to gather up some lilies and then she's slowly following along, pausing to make sure she's not pulling the stems together too tightly. She's nowhere near as nimble as Ochako is, though. ]
Did you teach yourself this?
no subject
But ah, that question causes her expression to noticeably soften.]
Some of it, I guess, but I learned almost everything from my mom. Making crowns together was something fr—fun for us to do when I was little. Flowers were everywhere! [Such a smooth save! She takes a second to mentally pat herself on the back.] Did you grow up in a city, Maya-san?
no subject
There's a considering hum, though, but Maya doesn't seem to want to pursue whatever she's thinking of, because she merely smiles and continues braiding. ]
I did! So there weren't really any flower fields for me, but sometimes I'd play by myself at the shrine.
[ Riveting times. ]
Oh, and I'd try to sew little animals.
no subject
Spending time at a shrine like that must have been really peaceful.
[And boring, but Positivity!!! Is!!! The name of the game!!!]
But what kind of animals did you make? I had no idea you knew how to sew. [There's a pause as she considers this, and then... well, she can't help but to laugh.] Sometimes I forget that I haven't known you that long at all!
no subject
It wasn't anything big, so you're not missing out on any major reveals on that department!
[ But she pauses to reach into her pocket, pulling out an old friend and balancing it on her palm. ]
Like this.
no subject
You made this? Maya-san! It's adorable! [One hand twitches, like she really, really wants to hold it out and ask to hold the little critter, but she stays strong!] Do you still make these?
no subject
[ And she offers Ochako the bunny, with a rueful little smile. ]
This is Mr. Bunbun.
[ Look, she was... like. Six. ]
no subject
He's very cute. I think you really should try making more of him here! Or other things like him. [And after taking one last look, she holds him back out for Maya to grab.] There's not a lot to do here, but we do have a ton of fabric sitting around... and you can even make them little flower crowns!
[Speaking of flower crowns, actually... back to braiding she goes!]
no subject
[ And she'll slip Mr. Bunbun back into her pocket, fondly, before she rejoins Ochako on her flower crown fight. ]
no subject
Yeah! [Ah, wait, is that too eager—] I-I mean, you don't have to make one for me! But if you do make some, and if you one left over...
[Yes. Yes, she'd absolutely love to have one. She's smiling at the very thought as she begins tucking in her final flowers.]
no subject
[ A terrible roommate. That's what. And Maya is only terrible in that she's messy, though she at least keeps that to her own room. ]
no subject
The best? Because you are.
[Honestly. Truly. But she feels like an explanation is in order, so as soon as the last flower is put in place... Ochako looks up with a smile.]
You're so nice to everyone, Maya-san! And so helpful! And you're always smiling, even when things aren't... going so well. [Hey, Maya, remember that time she socked you in the nose? Ochako does, which is why she looks the slightest bit sheepish as she says that. WHOOPS. But she presses forward anyway, absolutely determined to finish this little speech of hers.] I wish that you weren't stuck here, but I am happy that I've gotten to know you. You're a great roommate, and—
[Without any further ado, Ochako takes hold of the crown she's made—a circlet of white and blue irises, into which she's carefully woven bright red lilies—and offers it to Maya. A bright, happy crown for a bright, happy person!]
You're a really, really great friend.
no subject
[ Maya looks more than a little surprised to suddenly receive such a sweet outpouring of compliments and affection, along with a beautifully-made flower crown that is at least ten times better than her own current project, but--
Well, isn't this just how Ochako is? She's such a sweet girl and constantly cheerful, doing her best to make up for the mistakes she occasionally makes (that Maya would never really blame her for anyway), and as she accepts the crown and settles it carefully on her head...
There's no real warming before she lunges forward to wrap her into a tight hug. ]
You're such a sweetheart, Ochako-chan! You're so earnest and always trying your best, and I'm happy we were able to become roommates. You're like the little sister I never had.
[ She was different than Lisa, who no longer remembered her (as was best), but no less cherished. ]
no subject
And you're like the big sister I never had! So I guess that really does make us family, right?
[That's how it works!!!]
no subject
[ Ochako as family? Maya would already fight a man for her, so this is nothing terribly new, except that it makes her incredibly happy to hear. ]
