Little Willie, mean as hell, Pushed his sister in a well. Mother said, while drawing water, "My, it's hard to raise a daughter."

t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well. (And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!) What now? Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. [Ordinarily, Ryan might be an easy person to miss, despite his height-- he just has that sort of air around him by default, pulled in on himself to avoid attention.

Except that on finding himself somewhere dark and, more importantly, wet--

There's an abrupt, shrill scream from wherever he is in the well as he scrambles to his feet, his bag clutched tightly to his chest.]

Ohmygod-- the water isn't getting higher, is it? Right? Shit, how do we get out of here? ...oh god you don't think there are fish in here, do you...

[Because if he feels a fish brush his leg he is going to absolutely lose his shit, but he doesn't want to admit that out loud.

Anyway, he'll be busy feeling desperately along the wall for a ladder, he would really like to get out of here and never come back, thanks!]

2- (ghost cat + Adventure)

Ah, you're really lucky you can't get wet, huh...

[He's made it out, somehow, sitting nearby to attempt to dry out his clothes and talking to-- well, it depends, actually.

If you can see spirits, there's a white cat perched next to him that you might find is a little transparent. If you can't... this guy sure is talking to nothing!

Either way, he scoops up the cat (or what seems to be an armful of air) and stands, humming thoughtfully to himself.]

I guess moving around will probably help though, yeah? C'mon. Let's figure out where we're going.

[Ah, human screaming! It's been centuries since he's heard that sound. A very faint smile rises to his lips before he settles himself in for business.]

Calm down!

[Like screaming "calm down" has ever made anybody calm down even a little bit.]

It'll be easy enough to get you out. I won't have a problem lifting you to the top of the well.

Anyway, I doubt anybody would put fish in their drinking water. I hear it makes it unsafe to drink.

I-- I'm calm! Totally calm.

[He's not calm at all, but he's trying, exhaling a slow and steady breath out to try to find a little bit of chill. Most of what he says makes sense, except...]

You're sure you can get up that high?

[Ryan is down for anything that gets him out of here, but he has to make sure.]

I can fly up.

[He's absolutely certain of this. All he'll have to do is expend some energy to turn into a bunch of bats.]

[He's going to end up...!! Meeting with a scrawny-ass teenager who's holding out a towel to him. Blankly, because he has no idea who he was talking to, but.

Talking to mysterious air is better than some of the people who have come out of that well, so he's not going to judge.]

[Wait a second. There's definitely something off here in a very familiar way, and he sort of... squints at Minato for a moment, glancing between him and the towel.]

[Surprised, but not in a bad way-- more curious, and maybe a little impressed. He'll also take that towel, thanks.]

Sorry, just, you know, I'm used to you guys not being able to.

[ zelda says in approach, after observing him from a distance. yes she can certainly see that cat he's holding, and the nature of it makes clear to her that it's a spirit of some kind. curious. she doesn't want to immediately draw attention to that fact though. it's not her place and also rather rude when he seems to be a new face. ]

Do you require any assistance, good sir?

Ah- hi! I'd really appreciate that, if you wouldn't mind.

[He brightens immediately at the offer, and the cat seems to be interested as well, sitting up with a curious meow.]

It's just that, well, I'm not sure where exactly to start? I kind of just showed up here, so...

[Okuni's still strictly on the non-supernatural side, so all she sees is Ryan walking around holding an armful of air. She wants to say that this is the weirdest thing she's seen in Chroma, but it's not... sadly.]

Oh? Are you one of the new arrivals?

[She's already curious and willing to engage just from that, though her eyes dip to the ghost cat she can't see, then back up to Ryan]

If you can call showing up at the bottom of a well "arriving", then yeah, I guess I am?

[Someone might still be a little less than happy about that-- but he shakes his head, giving her a small smile.]

Looks like we sure weren't the first ones though, huh.

[Is... that a cat?

He almost misses it, with how it looks. A ghost cat. Even if demons can't be seen by other humans, he can see spirits and similar beings, and so he has no issue seeing the white cat wandering along the street. He steps over to it, taking a knee to hold out his hand and see if it's interested at all.

If he can get away with that... then of course he's going to pet it.]

[The cat is absolutely interested! As soon as he gives it any attention, it immediately runs over to try to rub against his hand with a pleased little meow (that probably echoes, just slightly). People who can see it are The Best, please give it pets?

Its owner isn't far behind, though, and he smiles warmly as he notices the two of them.]

You're already making friends, huh, Bianca...? I wondered where you went. [And to Guren:] She's not bothering you too much, right?

[ That scream almost makes him scream in turn; luckily for everyone involved, Jion manages to restrict himself to a startled yelp, water splashing around his knees as he looks towards the source of that scream. ]

Hey, I think it's okay! [ He gives Ryan a sturdy clap on the shoulder to try and get him to settle down a bit. ] I don't think the water's rising any higher, so if we just find a way out ...

[ He sounds a pretty uneasy himself, but Jion does know from experience that outright panic doesn't get anything done, and he occupies himself squinting up towards the top of the well. ]

Oof-

[He might be very tall, but he is also very skinny and easily startled; he stumbles a half-step at that clap on the shoulder, but quickly regains his balance to avoid pitching over into the water.]

Are- are you sure? I think it's staying about the same, but...

[That comes with a suspicious look at the water, as if he expects it to rise out of spite.]

[...well. Sadie was going to just turn into a bird and fly out of here, but Ryan's panicking is ... actually sort of funny? She refrains from outright laughing at him, at least, but she does sort of walk around him in a circle as she looks him over.

Almost like a vulture.]

What, are you scared of fish or something?

Y-- no.

[He quickly thinks better of being honest, shaking his head. Who's scared of fish, not him, that would be absolutely ridiculous.]

I was just-- worried about accidentally stepping on one or something!

[Talking to yourself is a good way to organize your own thoughts. So Tonbokiri thinks.
But talking to something unseen, even to the point of ... picking it up?

However Tonbokiri hears that last part, and has only the intention of being helpful. So he comes closer with one hand raised slightly to catch the man's attention. (The other hand is holding his spear at his side, as always.)]

Pardon me, but if I may. To know where to go next, you might have some idea or instinct within yourself, pulling you in a certain direction.

[Ah, it's kind of nice to have someone about the same height as him for a change. He can look him in the eyes without looking down. But he can't help a slight glance down to where the man is cradling something unseen.
Now that he's this close, he can sense a tiny presence...]

[Not having to look down is definitely a mutual kind of relief-- Ryan blinks at him in surprise at first, then visibly brightens a little, posture straightening out of its usual nervous hunch.]

Well, I did, but that instinct was mostly 'get the hell out of the water'? So I'm a little bit more stuck now...

[If Tonbokiri can sense that presence, he might be able to hear a very faint, echoing meow from the ghost cat-- it's always curious about new people, whether they see it or not.]

( So it's just a man and his cat, huh? Mutsunokami is the opposite of a cat person. Honestly, he's more of a dog person which is probably why he notices something is up even if he can't see it exactly. His attention is more drawn to the presence he's sensing than it is to the man and it doesn't take him long to figure out the guy is carrying some sort of spirit. Because Mutsunokami is curious and has no impulse control, he calls out, )

What's that? ( He tilts his head curiously and tries to look more carefully at whatever he's holding. He he squints... Ah, he thinks he sees it now. Look, he might be a spirit himself but he's not the most spiritual sword in the armory. He's a little slow! ) How're ya holding that?

( And looking at Ryan, )

Are ya some kind of sage?

A sage...? Jeez, that sounds a lot cooler than 'medium', I have to remember that one.

[There's one answer then, sort of-- and in response to the other one, he holds the cat up a bit. Mutsu might catch a hint of a meow as he does.]

And this is Bianca! She's a ghost, but besides that she's a perfectly normal cat.

[gandharva's minding his own business, for the part—helping out anyone who might need it, but others seem to have that mainly taken care of. still, he pauses when he sees (?) the cat.]

... Interesting creature you have there, sir.

[he can't say that semi-transparent cats are a thing he sees often??]

Not a lot of ghosts around here, huh...?

[He's smiling, though-- it's a relief to meet people who can see her, who won't think he's just talking to thin air.]

Besides, you say that like you're not more interesting.

[Both for that and for-- well, honestly he's still trying to sort out whatever he's picking up here because it's a Lot in comparison to what he's used to.]

[...you know. He can see spirits and ghosts back home when they're summoned so sure, he can see the white cat. He also sees Ryan sitting down trying to decide what he's doing. It's maybe a good thing Percy's dog isn't around even if the cat's a ghost. He's not sure how Mrs. O'Leary would react to that.

Instead, he watches this guy pick up a ghost cat and seem perfectly calm about it. It's the main reason Percy approaches in the end.]

Where are you trying to go? [If Ryan's trying to figure out where he's going, he must have a destination in mind...maybe.]

[That's. That sure is a pretty cheery response, for what amounts to 'hello, I'm lost as fuck'.]

I mean, I'm not really looking for anything specific? I guess I should figure out where I'm staying, but-- there's a lot of this place I haven't seen yet, so one direction's as good as another one for now.
