Event Ten.

Little Willie, mean as hell,
Pushed his sister in a well.
Mother said, while drawing water,
"My, it's hard to raise a daughter."

t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well.

(And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!)

What now?

Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. Hopefully they can get a hand out! For more information, please go here!

Meanwhile, the current characters have some new gifts.

If there are any questions, please ask them here, and have fun! Thank you!

[That's a solid answer. Usually when he ends up in someplace new Percy scouts the area without a solid destination in mind to get a lay of the land. Knowing how this town works though, it's maybe better to advise differently.]

Well. There's the harbor, the gardens, and some of the storage units people have set up for stuff that we're finding. Plus the forest but that's not really a place people need to disappear into on their first day. Are you hungry?

Harbor's definitely a no, the rest sounds like it'd be good to check out-- but what's wrong with the forest...

[Watch as he goes and disappears into it on his first day anyway.

And at that last question, he quickly shakes his head, though honestly he probably could go for something; he'll figure that out later, it's not like he has much to work with right now as far as trying to trade for food.]

I'm fine for now, though, really! I can cook for myself later, I just- have to find something edible first? That might actually be a better place to start than anything.

Let's just say the forest has a mind of its own and leave it at that. [But he can appreciate someone who's self-sufficient and he nods to himself.] The gardens would be your best bet then. People can take whatever they want from there since stuff grows all the time, but you can find canned food and stuff in some of the old buildings or the storage units. Uh. I think I someone owns a cafe or something here, too, that serves food if you ever do decide to order take-out.

[...this place is weird.] ...don't take this the wrong way, but your cat doesn't need to eat or anything does he? [Ghosts don't eat, yes, he knows, but also he's witnessed someone offer happy meals to summon ghosts before. It's just polite to ask, maybe.]

Oh-- you can see her?

[That eclipses everything else for the moment, and Ryan perks up a bit at the realization.]

Bianca will be fine, she's dead. As long as she doesn't get ignored, she seems to be pretty happy, honestly.

[The cat meows at that, as if in agreement... but judging by the way she paws at Ryan, she just wants attention. He idly scratches behind her ears.]

I'll keep all that in mind though-- sounds like people have been doing a lot before our group got here, huh?

She. My bad. [But then the name registers and he looks briefly startled by...something. It's fine, it's fine...Bianca seems to be a popular name for girls who are dead but he's keeping that to himself.] I'd want attention if I was a ghost, too, I think.

[Ryan's asking something nicer though and he moves to latch onto that.] Yeah. The group before me set up a lot of the stuff we have now like the garden and the supply spots but people keep building new stuff all the time. I think that's why the town's happy with us.

[can't believe i named this cat bianca and then immediately found out about the pjo one SORRY GUYS,

anyway, Ryan listens attentively to all of that, though the last bit definitely catches his attention more than the rest.]

The town's happy with you...? As in it literally has some kind of mind of its own, or is this some kind of correlation thing? Same thing with the forest, actually.

[The idea of a place with some kind of sentience should, by all rights, be concerning-- but he just sounds absolutely fascinated.]

Yeah, the first one. I didn't exactly believe it at first either but I've been here long enough to realize certain things around the town respond to certain things that we do. The forest will do what it wants to do, the ocean will do what it wants to do...the town will give or take away color based on what things happen here...stuff like that.

Not sure who thought it'd be a good idea to give a town sentience, but here we are.

I mean, nobody necessarily had to do it. I've never heard of anything like it happening for real, but there are concepts of like-- things and places coming to have their own sorts of spirits, if they're around for long enough. Taking on their own kind of life without anyone needing to do anything.

Still pretty likely that there's some kind of interference involved, if you ask me, but I'd be equally unsurprised to find out it just happened to become that way.
hydrokinetics: (My way to you)

Like maybe it was abandoned long enough that it became self-sufficient until everybody else showed up? [What a weird concept.] The only reason I'd doubt it is because someone talks to us every month and seems to be tracking our progress with stuff. Nobody's ever met the guy though.
