QUEST 6 - MOMO

[As far as John was concerned, he and Momo made for a really great team. She had a lot of great ideas, they knocked that story quest out of the park (with Izuku's help) and in general she seemed like someone with a good head on her shoulders. That, and at least she knew what the fuck they were actually going after.

Momo said "spider demon" and John thinks of a certain spider-y girl before he takes off to meet Momo at the edge of the forest. He's not armed, currently, but it won't take like for him to summon his hammer should he need it.]

So when you say spider demon, does that mean we have eight legs and eight eyes we have to dodge?

[Momo feels much the same. John's a good partner, and she'll happily trust him against something she's pretty sure she could deal with on her own given preparation time. She's gathered up the long bladed polearm she'd made the first day for this exploration. The weapon was a bit stained with plant gore, but that stuff never comes out. Yuck.]

That depends on who's telling the story.

Knowing this place? I'm inclined to think it's going to have a spider body and a human top half. Like a centaur. Something out of a fairy tale.

That sounds even more gross than I'd pictured but I think we can deal with that. If we go for the spider part of the body there is no chance of her attacking us with the human part. She'd be immobile. So that'll be our strategy! Take out the legs, dispose of the body.

That sounds good to me. Only...are you bothered by spiders?

[Momo isn't (so brave!) but she can sort of tell John's weirded out by this.]

[Haha about that...there's a nervous laugh and he shrugs a little.]

No, not really. Spiders are gross but it's no big deal. Why would I be bothered by spiders?

[She's not. But yeah...]

Anyway, I guess be on the lookout for webs?

I can blow webs away and just smash spider legs with Vrillyhoo, it's whatever. [And with that he's marching into the forest at a casual pace.] The webs would give us a good idea of where to start looking though. It might be hard to see them though since the forest is still pretty washed out.

QUEST 7 - SHOUTO AND VRISKA

[Even if geese are assholes and even if they are mutant geese, John is fairly certain that it will be remarkably easy to corral twelve of them. They're probably not that big and between him and Shouto they should be able to gather them in no time. He'd told Shouto to meet him at the well since it was easiest at the time and it's for that reason that he's leaving and heading that way.

Once at the well though, and once he sees Shouto, he'll lift a hand in a wave before settling down to the ground again.]

Do you think there's a limit to how many blues can catch a ton of geese?

[Since there are three of them, each of the party only needs to pick up four geese each. Even if they absolutely are the terrors he's expecting, four isn't that big of a number.

Shouto gives a small wave back.]

Probably not? Unless there are only a certain number of geese out there.

[ Vriska's here, a curled up ball in midair, tangled limbs and hair and her usual air of apathy. Shouto gets a small smile, but that's about it. ]

What are we supposed to do with them once we have them? I don't remember if it said.

[He keeps a careful eye on Vriska but he's nodding along to what Shouto says. To address Vriska though he hums under his breath.]

The thing just said "capture a dozen geese" but it didn't say anything after that. If we're capturing them that probably means we have to take them somewhere else. Capturing them and then letting them go sounds like a waste.

[He manages a small smile back fro Vriska before going back to the problem at hand.]

Usually those kind of quests means we bring them back to the town.

... I guess we're going to have 12 loud geese running around.

[ John don't you give her looks. She feels it, but doesn't look at him, not wanting to tip Shouto off that there's something here to worry about.

The look on her face is unimpressed, but she unfolds herself and stands flat on the ground. ]

Can't be worse than any of the other nonsense you guys have told me about. So, let's get started, I guess?

QUEST 9 - RIKU

[Is he excited to learn a new instrument? Yes, obviously, and even though that isn't what this quest is about he's equally excited to do the music thing and play with other people. He's not sure he'll be that great at teaching given he learned how to play when he was so young, but at the same time maybe that makes him a little bit of an expert.

He sends Riku a message with the address for the place he's staying in Ruga, waiting out front for the other boy to show up while bouncing on the balls of his feet. As soon as he spots Riku he zips forward to greet him.]

Hey, you made it! Are you ready to get started?

[Quest or not, the promise of learning how to play something new with a friend is exciting. He'd started learning the guitar quite some time ago, despite singing being his specialty, but piano is definitely new! Of course, Riku doesn't waste any time bounding over to John with a bright smile the moment their eyes meet, waving all the while.]

Yeah, I can't wait! I brought my guitar, just as promised!

[Not that he really needs to clarify it, since the case is clearly on his back, but hey.]

Sweet. This will be great! I did the student-teacher thing when Guren assigned all of us sparring partners but I have never actually taught someone specific skills I'm actually good at. Which one should we start with first? [But he's heading into the house, motioning for Riku to follow.]

[Still grinning, Riku follows behind John as he's invited inside.]

Really? Then this should be fun! I'm fine with either, but since you've never done any teaching before, do you want to start with the piano? I know a little bit, like which keys are which notes, so at least there's that!

That sounds good to me. And that's a great start! That'll make this a lot easier than starting from the ground up. When my dad was teaching that was the hardest part to memorize. [Once inside, Riku's going to probably notice a few things including a skeleton in a dress and a tank with a lobster in it, not to mention a bunch of captcharoids on the walls of various animals and objects.]

We'll test you first with scales then.

So your dad taught you! That's so cool! My parents and my brother like music too, so maybe that's where I got it from.

[The room looks normal for a solid .5 seconds until all of the oddities jump out at him. What weird picture frames (?).... The lobster makes sense, but he kept a skeleton (and dressed it up)?! Thanks, Dave.]

You have a really interesting place.... Oh, scales! Okay! I know what they are, since I sing, but not how to place my fingers the right way and all of that.

QUEST 8 - RIKU AND MINATO

[Sometime later in the day while John and Riku are teaching each other, John opens the window to let some air into the house. As such, while they're busy screwing around and attempting to play the notes, music will drift out and into the middle of the road in Ruga. While he plays a string of notes on the piano, he can also be heard speaking to Riku.]

So what you want to do is place your fingers here and go slow, like...[And he plays a scale.]

[It's not really surprising that Minato's going to be attracted to wherever he can hear music. He was poking around the Town, trying to see whatever other new colors have popped up (because the stars were unmistakeable last night), when he hears those notes.

Oh...?

Hi, he's definitely poking his head in curiously. That's probably way too familiar but also, they all basically know each other in this town anyway.

...Well, okay, he doesn't know Riku, but.]

Oh... hello.

[Minato, don't just stick your head into the window.]

Sorry for the wait!!

[Even as the day's gone on, Riku hasn't lost even a tiny bit of interest in playing together with John. Humming along with the scale, he nods and places his hand on the same keys one octave up.]

Okay, I can do that!

[But before he gives it a try, the presence of someone behind him makes him turn around, and.... hello, stranger.]

Oh, hi! Did you want to play too?

[Minato may be a stranger to him, but given the way the town works, they're all kind of like neighbours stuck in the same situation! It's totally fine to invite someone he doesn't know to play a piano that.... isn't his.... right?]

[Minato what the hell. He doesn't even necessarily mind that Minato's sticking his head in the window but he lets up from the keys to wave at his friend.]

Hey dude! [He gestures to Riku then.] Have you met Riku? I have been teaching him how to play the piano and he's going to teach me guitar basics! [...] You know where the front door is.

[Minato's been here before. Get out of the window you dork.]

[Don't look at him like that!!!

But. Minato just waves a little to Riku (sup), before John calls him out on the window thing (rude).]

Just a second...

[Yeah, he'll pull himself out of the window to go to the door instead. It's fine, this is fine. And once he's properly inside:]

Nice to meet you. I'm Minato.

[MORE IMPORTANTLY--]

I was just...distracted by the music.

[Oh, good, so this guy is someone John knows! Which means that he didn't invite a stranger into his friend's house. Crisis averted.... not that he ever realized it was a crisis.

But as Minato opens the door like a normal person, Riku offers him a cheerful wave, lighting up immediately at the mention of music.]

I'm Riku! Nice to meet you too! But you like music? You should definitely play with us! I'm a singer, but it's fun to play instruments too!

[Don't mind him scooting over to make room for their new companion. A piano has more than enough keys for three people to play, right?! TOTALLY.]
