[Minato what the hell. He doesn't even necessarily mind that Minato's sticking his head in the window but he lets up from the keys to wave at his friend.]

Hey dude! [He gestures to Riku then.] Have you met Riku? I have been teaching him how to play the piano and he's going to teach me guitar basics! [...] You know where the front door is.

[Minato's been here before. Get out of the window you dork.]

[Don't look at him like that!!!

But. Minato just waves a little to Riku (sup), before John calls him out on the window thing (rude).]

Just a second...

[Yeah, he'll pull himself out of the window to go to the door instead. It's fine, this is fine. And once he's properly inside:]

Nice to meet you. I'm Minato.

[MORE IMPORTANTLY--]

I was just...distracted by the music.

[Oh, good, so this guy is someone John knows! Which means that he didn't invite a stranger into his friend's house. Crisis averted.... not that he ever realized it was a crisis.

But as Minato opens the door like a normal person, Riku offers him a cheerful wave, lighting up immediately at the mention of music.]

I'm Riku! Nice to meet you too! But you like music? You should definitely play with us! I'm a singer, but it's fun to play instruments too!

[Don't mind him scooting over to make room for their new companion. A piano has more than enough keys for three people to play, right?! TOTALLY.]

[THANKS RIKU. The sad thing is even if Riku did invite a stranger in John's pretty sure everybody here is just a friend he hasn't made yet. Help him. Anyway it's Minato and he scoots on the bench a little even though he's possible going to fall off.]

Minato and I have talked about music on and off before. It's one of the things I think both of us have missed a lot.

[Don't fall off, John...

Minato does settle himself on the piano bench, though, admiring the instrument with a relatively contented expression. Hell yeah, pianos.]

Definitely. Ever since my mp3 player died, it's been too quiet here.

[More importantly--!]

You're a singer, Riku-san?

Right?! I wish I could charge my phone! I'd love to show you some of my music from home.

[It takes a few seconds, but Riku does eventually realize that John's awfully close to the edge, and scoots the other way to give him some more room. See, they can all totally fit!]

But yeah, I am! Actually, if you're from Japan, Minato-san, I bet you already know about idols!

Dave is pretty unhappy his phone died finally, too. [Thank you Riku, this is so much better. He remembers what Riku said about idols though and he nods even while his attention drifts back to the piano and his left hand plays a little string of notes.]

Riku's an idol. I didn't really know what that meant until he explained it to me but it sounds cool! He's actually a pretty good singer, too.

You're an idol...?

[It's not the sort of music he usually listens to, but Minato can still easily acknowledge the sort of skill and effort that goes into idol work.

Consider him impressed, honestly.]

That's pretty amazing... it must be a lot of hard work.

Thanks, John! If we ever get electricity and I can charge mine, I'll show you guys my songs with the rest of my unit! It's fun to sing in general, but it's the best when we're all together.

[Even with the number of fans his unit has, it's still nice to hear a compliment from a friend, and Riku can't help but beam.]

And yeah, it can be pretty tough, but it's worth it! I'm so used to having a busy schedule that it's weird to have so much free time here. I bet if we put John on the piano and Caramia-san and I on the guitar, it'll be really fun if we all play together! Do you like singing, Minato-san? You should join in too!

[Is he just making an impromptu band now? Apparently.]

[That's so pure, Riku.] I think we'd both like to hear that. And I know a couple of people would like to hear us play music! I haven't heard Caramia's guitar yet but I bet he's pretty good.

[He glances at Minato then.] What do you think? [It's debatable if he's asking if Minato likes to sing, if he's joining them, or if he thinks people would like to hear it. The choice is yours, Minato.]

[there is so much to process there... Minato blinks slowly, before he just nods equally slowly. Sorry, he doesn't have the same level of energy as you two, but he's Trying.]

Though I don't sing professionally like an idol.

Maybe someone else has an instrument or knows how to play one! We could ask on the network sometime!

[Sorry, Minato.... There's no stopping him when it comes to something that makes him so happy.]

It doesn't matter if you're professional or not as long as you're having fun! Let's sing together!

[As much as he'd like Minato to join in, he pauses and lets his fingers idly play a melody with one hand.]

Hm...I guess, yeah, Riku and I could back you up on the piano. What do you want to do, dude? [What is your heart's deepest desire, Minato?]

[Well, in all honesty:]

I don't mind, if that's what you really want to do. I can play piano a bit too, so we can go with whatever works.

[His deepest desire is... to just go with whatever.

Like usual.]

It'd be nice to hear more music in this place, anyway. Caramia-san has a guitar too, so maybe he'd be willing to join us.

Can you really? Maybe you could do a piano duet! I think you should be the one to decide, Minato-san!

[SORRY.... John's idle melody is really cute, though, and Riku only beams more brightly.]

Caramia-san is way, way better with the guitar than me! And Crow-san too! I'm sure someone else knows how to play the guitar, so I could always lend mine to them and just focus on singing. There are so many talented people here!

We can always ask him. I kind of wish more people knew how to play stuff but this is still more than I expected. Someone else I spoke with said he plays the violin but obviously we don't have one of those here.

[...hm.] But if you really want to hear more music, I think Riku and I can provide that right now. [A sudden grin.] I'll play and Riku can sing. It'd be like instant gratification. Or wish-granting!

[Why... are you guys like this... so perky, so bright, and expecting way too much of him here!! Don't make him decide...

So he's kind of relieved when John throws him the save there.]

Oh... yeah, I'd like to hear you both perform like that. It sounds really nice, and it feels like it's been ages since I've been able to properly listen to any music.

["They're protags" can't be the excuse here, so, uh.... Minato's clearly the outlier, let them live their (mostly) positive lives!]

Instant wish-granting? That's perfect, then! If I play my guitar with it, even something simple will sound really nice!

[And, of course, he's quick to hop up and pick up his guitar, slinging the strap around his neck and strumming the strings with a pick.]

It's an electric guitar, so it won't be amazing on its own, but it'll be perfect with John's piano playing and my singing! Are you ready? [WHAT SONG ARE THEY EVEN PLAYING? WHO KNOWS.]

[Instant wish-granting! Also maybe nobody should let John pick because he's already fiddling with the keys even as Riku goes to get his guitar before casually sliding into this. Because it's a classic and clearly everyone should know this?]

I'm ready if you are, unless you want to pick a different song. [The nice thing is that John's playing concisely enough that Riku should be able to follow along via guitar. He hopes.

...seriously who allowed him to pick.]

[GHOSTBUSTERS... Minato's vaguely familiar with the theme song in the sense that it shows up sometimes in parodies and things, though he's never seen the movie (a: it's old, b: he's japanese and it's an old american movie); his brow is pretty much furrowing immediately as he tries to place where he's heard the tune before.

Huh..............]

[Minato can probably almost see the gears turning in Riku's head as John plays the eerie intro of.... whatever song this is.... Until the more familiar chords kick in, that is, and his eyes widen immediately.]

Oh! I know this! I'll give it a shot!

[The basic chords are easy enough for him to follow along with on the guitar, but what he doesn't say as he looks over to Minato with a wide grin is that he only knows like. 1/4th of the lyrics at best.

This is going to be good.]

[True musical prowess, ladies and gentlemen.]

[THIS SORT OF WORKS? John's busy cracking up at least and playing along with the notes correctly. He doesn't try to fix the lyrics and lets Riku take over, but the music is strong as they play and sing all the way to the end.

Hopefully Minato appreciates their musical stylings.]

[... Minato's not sure that's right, either, but...

He's still pretty amused and delighted. Riku has a good voice, and the guitar and piano work together well, and Minato is enjoying being able to listen to music for the first time in what feels like ages.

So he's sitting here with a small but warm smile on the face, definitely pleased.]

[Unconventional as it may be, it's still music, and Riku grins brilliantly as they finish and holds out his hands for high-fives.]

That somehow went better than I thought! What did you think, Minato-kun? John's the one who really held the performance together, but it's so much fun to sing with an accompaniment! Even if I had to make up most of the lyrics.

[He shifts on the bench to high-five Riku.] I think making up the lyrics is the best part! It shows off how good you are with music. [But he looks toward Minato again.] But I think Minato can be our main critic.
