[Hunk's voice is dismissive, and his prevalent tone is relieved as he gently tightens his arms around Keith in turn. Phew. He finally feels like he can take a breath or two, the persistent throbbing in his temples that's stuck around these last several days easing minutely.]
It's really good to see you too. I was really worried about you. Freaking out, actually. When I found your knife on the beach I'm pretty sure I had a heart attack.
no subject
[Rescue is very much appreciated, Hunk. But not if you get yourself killed in the process! Keith will be a mess if that happens.
He's a mess now, mind you, but that would be worse.
Keith realizes he probably ought to let Hunk go now, and he moves to do that, moves to step back, except he's wobbly, now that the adrenaline rush is finally starting to ebb, and he tips forward into Hunk.]
You found my knife?
[OH. That is kind of a relief too!]
no subject
[Hunk's voice is a little fierce (DON'T ARGUE WITH HIM MAN HIS FRIENDS ARE EVERYTHING TO HIM) and he shifts his arm to catch Keith automatically as he pitches forward. Okay. So Keith super not at his best.]
I've got it back on the boat. Whiiich we should head to. I've got some food and first aid stuff there too, you definitely need it.
no subject
Stay here.
Sighing.] I'd settle for a blanket.
[He's freezing. He dealt with this for a while, but even his crazy half-alien metabolism has about given up with no food, blood loss, being wet and out in the elements.]
no subject
[Hunk smiles proudly. He overprepared. Which, it seems, was exactly the right answer.] Come on, buddy. It's this way... [Hold up. He frowns, studying Keith critically, recalling how Keith slumped into him.]
Maybe I should give you a ride there.
[By ride he means carry.]
no subject
I'm okay.
[He lies.] I can walk. [More lies. It'll become obvious if Hunk even lets him try what a lie it is. He pushed himself past where his limit was, and it's finally catching up with him.]
no subject
[CUT THROUGH THOSE LIES. Hunk leans in closer to him, squinting at his face closely before he shakes his head hard.] Nope. Dr Hunk is settling on a solid nope there, okay buddy? I'll give you a ride. It'll only be a minute.
[...He's gonna scoop you up, Keith. Are you ready for this. Hunk may still be feeling not one hundred percent, but he's pretty sure he's got more percents than Keith does right now.]
no subject
[Oh wait hey! HEY. Those are his feet leaving the ground come on Hunk his dignity!! Will not survive!! A princess carry!!
Keith squawks in surprise but he also loops his arms around Hunk's neck. ...okay you know what he is actually too tired to fight about this which means he's probably actually too tired to walk.
So he'll be good and not struggle.] ...thanks.
no subject
Dr. Hunk's totally getting some rest once we get back.
[He plods downward, carefully picking his way down hills and craggy stones. Through the visor of his helmet, his face is damp with sweat and his breathing is a harsher than usual. Carrying Keith around would normally be no big thing but when you're not feeling super hot...he's focusing on it quite a bit.]
I don't know about you, but I'm going to pass out for like. A week when we get back. No movement. Except eating. Washing. Those things.
no subject
He's keeping an eye on him, but there's almost a smile when Hunk speaks next.]
Honestly, that sounds like the best idea I've heard in a really long time.
no subject
[It's not long, really, until where they reach where the... very basic boats landed. Hunk's is a basic boat but it's solid and there're packs with supplies on it. He brings Keith all the way here before he sets him down and reaches out to snag a pack.
Digging in it, blanket! He's swishing that around you Keith here, warm yourself be the toastiest boy. And then he pulls out his knife and hands that to him.]
no subject
[Keith concedes.
He's relieved when they reach the boat, more so when Hunk finally sets him down. Now at least he doesn't have to worry about the other wearing himself out on his account. ...and that blanket may be the best thing. Keith pulls it around himself and maybe it's just the hint of warmth that starts that makes his body realize just how frozen he's felt, but it's right about then that the shivering starts, near violent.
Enough that his hands are shaking as he reaches for the blade. He smiles anyway though.] Thanks, Hunk. I wasn't sure if I'd lost it for good. It's... yeah, thanks.
no subject
[And, as an aside:]
And you're welcome. I'm relieved I found it for you.
[He knows that that knife is important to Keith! Heck, he always has it with him. That was what really triggered Hunk's worrying: finding the knife that he knows Keith wouldn't let out of his hands.]
no subject
But alas.
The blanket is helping though, and he wraps cold fingers around the knife and holds it tightly.]
I think I owe you thanks for more than just the knife too.
[Keith speaks up. This part is hard for him, but it feels important to say.] Even while we were stuck here and things looked bad, I knew you were still out there. I knew you wouldn't give up.
[Because Hunk is... a good teammate, a good friend. Hunk cares so much for everyone else before himself. And he's brave even if Keith is well aware how terrified he is sometimes.]
no subject
Yeah. I'd never give up on you. No matter what, if you needed my help I'd do my best to get there.
...Thanks, Keith.
[For saying it. There's a silly smile on his face and he's felt better than he has for days upon days.]
no subject
[Keith nods, looking up with a smile and holding out a hand to him. He definitely knows that for a fact, Hunk. It's something he can absolutely relies on. Even if he's been away from the group for a while back home.
Teammates. Friends.
And here, well, here he's gotten closer to Hunk too with them here together, getting through the crap this place throws at them together.]
no subject
So naturally, he reaches for Keith's hand.]
Only thing I don't like is that it took us a bit to get here... But we got here.
no subject
Eventually he lets go and slumps back where he's sitting.]
Yeah. You got here. That's what matters.
[And then, well,] I'm ready to go home.
[Keith would never have called anywhere in this weird world home before Hunk arrived and they made their little orange household.]
no subject
[Hunk squeezes his hand firmly, flashing him a warm smile before he turns toward the ship. He moves his hand to urge Keith into it, shifting to get ready. He's actually pulling a length of chain out of the water, moving to wrap it around his waist.
What???
He got here so fast thanks to jetpack. Exhausting yes but way quicker.]
no subject
[Keith watches him now, eyebrows lifting at him and glancing from the chain to the boat to his friend.]
Are you... the motor of the motorboat?
[What is he looking at here, Hunk? Is this safe? Are you up for this? He frets.]
no subject
[Hunk grins, shrugging his shoulders.]
It's the quickest way to get back. And right now I feel like I can pull a dozen boats, y'know?
no subject
[Keith leans forward to look at him, clearly concerned. But jeez Hunk that grin. He sighs and sits back.]
Why the sudden energy then?
[You sure Hunk he is so skeptical and worried.]
no subject
[FISTPUMP.
Of course, he's pretty sure he'll pass out when they get back but uh details. He steps into the cold water, thanking some entity for his paladin suit as the jets blaze to life. OFF THEY GO.]
no subject
[Keith can recognize the hypocrisy in him telling anyone to be careful. But he says it anyway, because he is worried.
And then Hunk just hops on in and Keith shimmies his way up in the boat to make sure he can keep an eye on him,]
no subject
[He teases.
But in all seriousness, he's thought about that too. As it is, he takes a deep breath and hits the jets in question and the boat starts a-moving. Back to the other shore, off of this horrible rock.]
