WHO: okuyasu and fronds WHERE: around WHEN: the month of may WHAT: more questies from me and at least one non-questie WARNINGS: well, emma and okuyasu kill some birds
[After the ghost adventure that also happened to be the leaf adventure, Okuyasu found himself with a packet of mystery seeds. He did the only thing that makes sense to do, as someone who can't garden but has been to elementary school, and folded a single seed in a damp piece of tissue which then got hung up in his bedroom window for a couple weeks. This, rather than basic knowledge of what sunflower seeds look like, is how he figures out what his mystery seeds are.
It only takes a week to sprout and a few more to actually look like a sunflower, at which point he's clumsily potted it in a gray bowl from his own kitchen (Iida will not miss this, for sure, never mind that) and... is not sure what to do with it.
And then the obvious solution occurs to him and he pops open his laptop to send Ochako a very innocent message that is not at all suspect.]
[Fight a big ol' spider youkai? He'll do it! Finally, a quest that makes him glad to be a blue in this town. Not that the others sucked, but this one is better, anyway! He's going to beat the shit out of a giant monster spider, and since it's always more fun to kick ass in pairs, he knows just who to ask.
Little not-Koichi, of course!! Izuku, being a fellow Punch Boy, is the obvious first choice, and Okuyasu has already sent him a series of excitable messages about doing this quest with him. Now he waits at the edge of the forest, waving when he sees Izuku coming out from the town.]
[As if he could refuse when Okuyasu sounds so excited! While youkai hunting isn't that high up on Izuku's wish list, it's a quest, and a good way to familiarize himself with something else that lives in the forest.]
Let's do this! [He'll match Okuyasu's enthusiasm with a fist pump of his own.]
[Hell yeah, little Koichi guy!! Okuyasu is absolutely ready to go, aside from the fact that he has no plan other than punch hard when they see a monster. So.
He will defer to Izuku; while his enthusiasm doesn't peter out, he does just kind of stand there looking at him expectantly.]
[Oh! He's actually being asked for information. Izuku immediately goes into Thinking Mode.]
Well, the Jorogumo is supposed to be a spider youkai that can change into a woman....if the one we're looking for here is the same as in the stories back home, then we should try looking for spider webs.
[Learn a skill from a red... Okuyasu has things he needs to do that require some more skills, and ordinarily he wouldn't ask someone who straight up made fun of him for spelling his name with a bunch of dollar signs (so cool), but -- he remembers Lupin lives in Ruga, which means he's red, which means Okuyasu is going to bang on his door until he answers, again.]
[ oh my god it's this guy again. Lupin was in the middle of a nap, actually, so it takes him a little bit to get to the door - and when he does, he looks a little frazzled. He's not even wearing his bowtie this time!! A rare sighting. ]
Cripes, you're gonna take the door out! Quit it. What do you want?
[He's not wearing his bowtie on the occasion Okuyasu greets him as "bowtie"--truly, cursed. Okuyasu seems completely unaware that Lupin has just woken up and doesn't seem prepared for visitors at all, because of course he is.]
The door's fine! You gotta help me with something.
[So Operation: Grant Nanjo's Wish goes absolutely sideways, and that's fine, because Nanjo and Ochako are two of Okuyasu's favorite people in town as usual, and despite all odds and wild motorcycle tricks, they manage to have a good time. Which means that Okuyasu goes home and thinks about how cool it is to have a bunch of friends, and it's sappy, and Nanjo in particular is kind of... like...
Not like a cool big brother, only his bike is truly cool, but he's surprised Okuyasu time and again with actual genuine support and concern for his well-being, so. Like a brother who isn't a complete asshole, and is only sometimes a prickly jerk.
This thought takes Okuyasu a few houses down to Nanjo's place again, a few days later, and he sure as hell can't just say "you're like an okay big bro which is a weird new feeling," so he goes with,] Can you teach me bike tricks?
[Kei's been busy with a lot of things for the past few days. So when Okuyasu bursts into his house unannounced, he's not too surprised...however at that question he looks at him as if he grew and extra head.]
Bike...tricks? I merely rode my bike across the roads, I didn't try to do stunts with it...
[Listen Nanjo... don't question it. Looking too deeply into the details will reveal nothing but Okuyasu embarrassing himself, again. He folds his arms and nods once, twice, considering something--]
Okay, I'll teach you some bike tricks! I only know like two, but that's enough.
[Even someone like Nanjo can tell there's something off of him and he raises an eyebrow even as he stands at his door and lets the other come on inside.]
We're both blue. I believe the quest to learn a new trick required someone who is red? Let me look into it again...
[Amazingly, his house looked...better after those few days. The floors looked swept and the place looked dusted. There's some of that medieval clothing he found and washed as backup outfits.]
[Catch geese, the quest says. Two of the same color, the quest also says. But that's for catching them, right, not hunting them... And Okuyasu has never been hunting before, but jesus, if he isn't bored of eating vegetables and weird chickens day in and day out.
That's it: he's bored of the menu here in "only 40 food options" town, and he figures he should check up on Emma anyway, so he marches off to her weirdly adorable little house and bangs on the door a few times until she comes to answer.]
Emma is quick to open the door and just sort of stares at that question. Obviously the answer is yes plus much more? It takes her a second until she's nodding, yes.]
I do, but why do you ask?
[She doesn't remember him or Ochako being too gung-ho about it during the forest exploration. For good reason, but still.]
[It was a completely different context when there were ghosts, Emma, even if they were friendly. Okuyasu jerks a thumb over his shoulder, toward... just the rest of the town, really. It means geese.]
There's weird monster geese everywhere! Apparently we're supposed to catch 'em, but how about this: we get something to eat besides creepy-lookin' fish for once!
[There were only so many fairy tales you could read and so many best friends you could worry about before it became too much.
That's when Shiho, sitting at her computer and scrolling through posts had remembered the hole someone was supposed to be digging at the well. Had they already started digging it? Probably not. But still, she should probably go scope out the area anyway, as supervisor and all.
And definitely not because she was bored and looking for entertainment.
What she gets though is one normal-looking well and a distinct lack of any holes. The worst thing is that she had actually brought snacks with her and had even taken the time to make sure none of them were spicy. With a sigh, she decides to go and check out the ground around the well. She did promise to help with this, after all.]
[Digging a hole was a real good plan, Okuyasu maintains, and he just hasn't gotten to it because of everything else that happened last month, from going into the forest to hang with ghosts to going back to punch a wolf, and then the shadow stuff...
And not having a shovel. Still. That's a big one.
So when he wanders out to the well it's not because he's suddenly going to make up for lost time and dig like his life depends on it, he just goes out for a walk and it takes him towards the well automatically. There's a girl there he hasn't seen before, which is a weird thought in a town of about 40 people at this point, so...]
[It’s not a bad place to take a walk, all things considered. A grate made ghosts crawling out of the well much less likely as well. Still, she tenses for a moment until the movement she can hear is followed by footsteps. One of these days she was going to get over her fear of ghosts.
But with the way things were here, the day seemed to be getting farther and farther. At least the person coming up is actually human.]
....Hi?
[She doesn’t recognize him which... really is weird. Huh.]
[Now, Okuyasu and Rin haven't exactly actually hung out. That doesn't matter too much, though - once you shitpost with a guy online, you're bros, he's learned this. So once the new quests appear, Okuyasu remembers his grumpy online pal and decides enough is enough, they have to go do something super badass together.
But he doesn't know where Rin lives and standing outside each house and shouting takes time, so he slides into Rin's DMs first:]
what's up chump let's go kick spider ass in the woods
ochako....the first one
