i: Looking for worms

[Jim's life had become...really hectic since he found the Amulet of Daylight. So suddenly having all this free time is so strange.

So he finds things to occupy himself with. He knows he's no good at hunting...but he doesn't want to rely entirely on his roommates to get ingredients.

After some digging around in the store, he manages to find a fishing rod! Success! But now he needs to find bait.

Which is why he's digging in the dirt with a small, rusty hand shovel. Then he stops and groans.]

Still nothing... [He notices you watching and, far from being embarrassed, he just waves.] I don't suppose you know where I can find some worms?



ii: Training is important

[Just because Blinky isn't here, just beause he'll go back and nothing will have progressed doesn't mean he doesn't need to train.

In fact, Jim feels like this is the perfect time to get some training in! That way he'll have gotten extra training by the time he got back!

Though without the Hero's Forge (not that he's been able to train there for a while now) and no other places to train he's going to need to get...creative.

Which is why you may catch him trying to tie some hay and logs together to make a training dummy. it might look a bit like a naked scarecrow though.

When he thinks he's done. He's going to look at his rather lacklustre attempts and nod.]

Not bad, right?

[Yes, he's asking you. And as if on cue, the dummy leans over to one side before falling down. Or maybe its arms fall off. Either way...he has the grace to look embarrassed when it happens.]

Because Jim definitely thought he was the one ending up in the water.]

[ Is Jim fucking insane?! Like he's going to do that! That water's freezing! Does he want to catch pneumonia or whatever fucking weird-ass shit is in the water?! ]

[Being thrown into freezing water is, surprisingly, not something that has happened to him yet. EVEN SO.]

[ He lifts his arms up to make a "X" with them. ]

[ He humphs! ] This teacher is much more hardy and can handle these waters better.

He doesn't want to say, well I'm younger so I'd recover faster if anything happened because that seemed.....rude.]

It's hard to say which one of us hardier though, right? It could be me.

This humble one is an immortal cultivator. Naturally, I am much more hardy.

[He argued with them for sure...especially on the point of how a Trollhunter should work alone.

Some part of him is wondering why he's arguing to have himself thrown into the water when he's spent so much of his life since getting the amulet arguing against being put into weird situations (before giving in two seconds in because it wasn't worth it to argue). But maybe the difference is that he can't be bothered to argue against, say, being put into a machine for shrinking trolls that has never been used on humans, but he'd probably have argued harder if it was someone else being put in.]

...how certain are you about that? Are immortal cultivators immune to catching colds?

Quest 49: Ritsu

[Honestly, Jim wasn't entirely sure about this quest, but then. When he thought about it calmly, it wasn't too bad.

He was pretty much a normal teenager so it's not like there's any dangers with swapping bodies. As for the amulet...in the worst case scenario, he knows that stealing the amulet works to get it out of...well. His own hands. (This was going to be so confusing to think about. So it was probably better just not to think about it.)]

Well...let's get this over with.

[ ritsu's agenda was pretty blatant; he'd thought about sugarcoating it before, but a shiver went up his spine at the idea he might be scamming someone like a certain person he didn't like.

so he had dropped an honest line that testing each other's powers might not be a bad idea, in case one of many possible town shenanigans happened. at any rate, it was better he picked out who it was than chancing a normie experience. ]

[ ritsu nods, but just kind of stares on. how was this supposed to work? this really is a weird task isn't it. how are they even assured they'll go back to normal?

[He appreciate Ritsu's honesty, really. He hadn't been lied to very often in his life (thus far) but the one or two times it'd happened the consequences had been dire.

So yeah, totally appreciates the honesty and Ritsu's reasoning makes sense.

Sounds good to me. [He holds out his hand.] Let's shake on it.

[ for that, he could probably psychically shake you jim. but he's trying to be less petty. so instead there's the signature blank kageyama stare.

but he nods and grasps jim's hand. when he blinks, he's surprised by how quickly that worked. it feels... wrong to be looking down at himself. he furrows his brows and checks his hand. ]

--Okay, that's not my voice either. [ and he'll put his-- (newly his's??) hand on his throat too. ] That was... fast.

But he didn't have a chance to make a comment before he's having to adjust to looking at his own face.]

Wow. [Because, yeah, that was pretty fast. He had to look down at himself, putting a hand on his chest and arm as if to confirm that, yes, this is indeed a Thing That Has Happened.] I didn't even feel anything...

Well, we have no idea how long this lasts... so we shouldn't waste any time.

[ hm. the circumstances of his esper awakening were a bit stressful, to say the least, so he's a bit unsure where to start. maybe the most basic of things? ]

I always had someone to practice with and before we had to leave it behind, the Hero's Forge was always well stocked with training equipment.

[But he had neither of those here, not in the same way he did back home.

Though he frowned because...it wasn't as if he still had that back in his world at the moment. Most of his training had turned into field training and patrols now.]

Mmm, and this world isn't quite the same... You can certainly use the network to ask for sparring partners, but our supplies are limited.

It's understandable to be frustrated.

[That said, she comes over and begins trying to get the straw dummy back up.]

I did before, but it'd feel weird to keep asking every time I need someone to spar with. [He smiled a bit wryly.] Maybe I should set up some kind of schedule with someone.

[Maybe he could ask Xie Lian...

He sighed and rubbed at the back of his neck.]

It's just...I guess I never realized how many things I took for granted back home.

[ So it was worms he's looking for and not just digging a hole to bury a body or something shady like that, whew! Kano waves back and trots up a bit closer to where Jim's digging, crouching down on the other side of the hole and peering inside. Sure is empty. ]

Worms, huh? What do you need them for? I've got an idea of how to get worms, but it might take a while.

[Why would someone dig a hole for a body using a hand shovel...?]

I wanted to try fishing. [He sat back.] What's your idea?

[ It's a lot less conspicuous than if he'd used a normal sized shovel, but that's just paranoia speaking. ]

I see, I see~ I was thinking, worms come out when it rains, right?

[ But that might be too long a while to wait, when there's no weather app to check when the next rainy day is. Still, there's a way to expedite things. ]

So if you just dump water on the ground like it's raining, won't they come up on their own?

...I hadn't thought of that. [It definitely sounds better than digging random holes and hoping to find a worm!] We just need to find some kind of bucket, right?

[He's surprisingly gungho about trying this out.]

Yep, yep, that's right~ I know where we can find one, but I wonder if people actually use it? I hope not... But we can always return it! It's the one in the well!

[ Hopefully nobody uses it as a water source!!! All those bodies inside the water for who knows how long... gross. ]

[A bucket he hopes no one is using...? He's confused but he listens without interrupting and...yeah. He can see that.]

It seems like only the water in the well has colour. And I guess...maybe the lake? But it's still frozen so who knows what's going on with that. So...I don't know about anyone else, but I've definitely been using it. [Shrug!] I just make sure to boil it first and to try not to use it right after people arrive.
