They heave out a sigh as they watch the other straight up prepare for battle, gloved hands going to their side so they can unbuckle the boxy sheath for their saw and draw it out, black obsidian glinting in the light. The way they toss the sheath aside could almost read careless (it is just wood afterall), but they're quick to return to their professional aura when they set the blade in the dirt with both hands. It's nearly half their height.
"Look, I don't want you just coming at me to spar. You're supposed to be learning something from this, and what's the point of us fighting each other for no reason? Are we supposed to just stop whenever we feel like it."
That's a rhetorical question.
"Why don't you try to... disarm me, or something like that."
And it's only after a slight wave of their hand that they actually ready their stance, keeping their heavy blade in the colorless dirt and at their side.

"You are quite right. I got too caught up in the moment. My apologies, Ka-Caingoumu-dono." (He's getting better at this foreign name thing, but it still comes out accented- sorry.)
Looking at the wide, completely unusual blade, Tonbokiri feels like he's learning things already... and he cannot argue with Cairngorm's logic.
"I can certainly agree to that. I shall try to disarm you, then." Taking a deep breath he sets his stance again. "Please regard me kindly through this lesson."
Seeing that weapon, he will let Cairngorm make the first move. He wants to see how something so saw-like is wielded.

Once they're an okay distance away, they set their blade in the dirt with both hands, giving the other one last look before, quite literally, swinging up a large cloud of dust with a surprising amount of strength. It's enough to cloud the vision of anyone that might actually not enjoy having dust in their eye, and they don't give him a moment to adjust before charging forward, low to the ground. The closer they advance, the more obvious it becomes that they're intending to take a swing at his legs, their heavy blade pulled back taut - they want to see what this person is more drawn to, taking defense and trying to dodge given the disadvantage, or if he will jump straight into offense.

He jumps backwards as powerfully as he can, intending to get clear both of the dust cloud and of the attack that is quickly incoming. Sometimes it is best to press the offensive, and sometimes you must wait for a better chance. Crystal-people must be more impervious to elements than he himself is with his human body. He will not let Cairngorm keep such an obvious advantage.
Tensing his stance and narrowing his eyes against the dust as he jumps clear of it, he can only rely on his senses to tell him what move Cairngorm will make. Low. To his legs, is it?
Wanting to gain more information about his opponent, he prepares himself to block and counter. But given how easily Cairngorm had brought up that dust cloud, he sets himself to block a heavy blow.
