Once they're an okay distance away, they set their blade in the dirt with both hands, giving the other one last look before, quite literally, swinging up a large cloud of dust with a surprising amount of strength. It's enough to cloud the vision of anyone that might actually not enjoy having dust in their eye, and they don't give him a moment to adjust before charging forward, low to the ground. The closer they advance, the more obvious it becomes that they're intending to take a swing at his legs, their heavy blade pulled back taut - they want to see what this person is more drawn to, taking defense and trying to dodge given the disadvantage, or if he will jump straight into offense.

He jumps backwards as powerfully as he can, intending to get clear both of the dust cloud and of the attack that is quickly incoming. Sometimes it is best to press the offensive, and sometimes you must wait for a better chance. Crystal-people must be more impervious to elements than he himself is with his human body. He will not let Cairngorm keep such an obvious advantage.
Tensing his stance and narrowing his eyes against the dust as he jumps clear of it, he can only rely on his senses to tell him what move Cairngorm will make. Low. To his legs, is it?
Wanting to gain more information about his opponent, he prepares himself to block and counter. But given how easily Cairngorm had brought up that dust cloud, he sets himself to block a heavy blow.
