"I am called Tonbokiri, one of the Three Great Spears of Japan. It is a pleasure to meet you in person." He bows firmly towards her, but a small smile is quickly on his face. "It truly is a pleasure to say an introduction in person. The forum feels so impersonal... Although it is quite useful."
no subject
"You as well, sir. I do agree, I prefer face to face conversation, though I admit I'm used to using the internet to communicate."
Being from the Not So Distant Future.
"Where is your horse companion?"
no subject
At the question he points over his shoulder. "Just here-" And when he glances over to look where he's pointing he sighs out a laugh. "He walked just out of sight, I suppose."
Bringing one hand to his mouth, he places his fingers so that he can blow a sharp whistle. At once, a large black horse comes galloping over from behind the house, neck arched proudly and steps high.
"May I introduce Mikuniguro." He then turns to the horse and rubs his nose. "Mikuniguro, this friend is Yaoyorozu-dono. She'll be making a saddle especially for you, so be still as she measures you out, all right?"
The horse flicks his ears as if uninterested, but he does stand completely still.
no subject
"I'm going to have to touch him a little bit, but not much. Just for the fittings."
With that said, she starts to do just that, running the tape measure from the middle of the animal's back to the other, where the belt should go. Quick, practiced, fingers deft as a tailors.
"I've never made a saddle before, but I have looked into it. So, if you need changes or adjustments when I'm done, just let me know."
no subject
Wait- what?
...Surely, he was seeing things.
"Certainly. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to do this. I'm glad that there is even anyone with the necessary skill to make a saddle."
no subject
Though she notices him staring, and decides to clarify. With a question.
"Has Izuku-kun explained to you about Quirks?"
no subject
"Quirks? No, I'm afraid not... Ah! But Ochako-dono did mention that word. 'Quirk'. What is it?"
no subject
She holds up both hands, and very deliberately pulls out a small bit of ceramic. A button.
"My Quirk is Creation. I can create objects from my body. which...is how I'm going to make your saddle."
no subject
Tonbokiri is rendered entirely speechless, especially as he tries to imagine a whole saddle being ... created from her body in the way he just saw that button appear.
It takes a long moment for him to finally respond with words.
"That is- I would say impossible, but clearly it isn't. Amazing. Will- will you be quite all right, making something so large?"
no subject
She replies simply, going back to measuring his poor horse.
"I just have to eat something after, and one of my classmates has been bringing me fish from the river often enough. I'll be completely fine, or I wouldn't risk it. I'm just glad to help."
no subject
Tonbokiri relaxes, although his mental image of what might happen here is still a bit hard to shake off.
"As you say, then. I wish that I could offer you even the barest hospitality, but even if I did manage to infuse tea into this strange water, it would probably taste like ash anyway..."
Now that he knows what food tastes like, this last week and a bit has been... not fun.

It's getting easier to stay positive and upbeat for her, despite the strain of the last few days.
"Okay. I've got the measurements. Is there a particular material you like for the padding? Something softer, or firmer?"
no subject
He heartly agrees. That promise might be a while in coming, but he will not forget it. He's been clearing weeds from a likely field...
Ah- well, that question takes him by surprise.
"I did not expect such options. You are most generous!" He's not sure what kind of action he and Mikuniguro will see in this place, so-
"Firm, if you would. And... perhaps if it's not too much trouble, the stirrup a bit longer than usual?"
no subject
Momo starts out by creating the seat and attached stirrups, pulling it out of her thigh without any real trouble. Well-made leather, devoid of decoration but otherwise good. The strappings and girthings come next, and finally the bit and bridle. All pulled out with no fanfaire. Just...there!
"Here you are. Why don't you check them, make sure I got it right. I made the straps a little longer in case your horse needs some room, but we can trim it easily."
no subject
"Thank you. I shall do so right away." It takes him just a moment to get a blanket to use as a saddle pad, then he slings the saddle on to Mikuniguro. It seems that all that measuring paid off, because it fits him just right. He checks over the straps as he adjusts some of the buckles.
"Very good. It even seems lighter than what I've used before..." He ties the girth loosely before moving on to the bridle. "Been a while since you've done this, isn't it, my friend." He encourages Mikuniguro through the equipping, which Tonbokiri continues without hesitation.
"Have you ever ridden a horse, Yaoyorozu-dono?" While she's waiting, he'll make some conversation. Besides, he is a little curious, having recently met someone who has never seen a horse before.
no subject
Momo responds brightly, hands dropping to rest at her sides as she studies the animal curiously.
"I've ridden a few times. My parents had a stable on our property and I learned to ride at a young age. I haven't had time for it in the last few weeks back home, since it was study time, but I'm fairly practiced at it."
Stepping back, she finally really tales Tonbokiri in from top to bottom. He looks...
"Are you a samurai?"
no subject
"I apologize for laughing, but it is a rather interesting question! No, I am not a samurai, but my former master was the samurai and daimyo Honda Tadakatsu. I am merely the tsukumogami of that man's spear."
If she is friends with Midoriya, perhaps she also will understand?
no subject
"I...am familiar with that man from history. And of the concept. It's nice to meet you more properly then. Is there a title you prefer, or an honorific?"
She's not sure how to address a centuries old spirit.
no subject
"I am very pleased you understand! Ah, and thank you for asking..." He lifts one hand to the back of his head for a moment, a bit embarrassed to have been asked so directly. "Although I have a title as one of the Three Great Spears of Japan, of course it is too much to say. So please continue to call me Tonbokiri, with whichever honorific suits you best."
no subject
She's polite, but even All Might only warrants a -sensei because of he's her teacher. And All Might is...well...he's All Might. The greatest hero of her age.
"I must say I hadn't expected to come across so many Japanese people here. It's...quite odd, don't you think?"
no subject
"But I feel that 'why so many Japanese' and 'why mostly children' are questions that will have to wait in the face of other matters." He makes a slight gesture at the grey-scale world at large, then finishes with the bridle.
As he walks around Mikuniguro looking everything over once more it occurs to him to ask- "So you are Japanese, then?"
no subject
Which makes it more bearable. His other question, though, gets a nod.
"Yes. I'm from Nagoya, in Aichi-ken. I'm not sure if that had a different name in your Master's day, though."
no subject
"Yes! Tokugawa Ieyasu was from that area, as was my former master. It was called Mikawa at that time. Of course, Nagoya was a very strategic location, being between Kyoto and Edo." Stepping closer he happily sets his hands upon her shoulders, patting them heavily.
"The only thing better than finding Japanese people in this place is finding someone from the same region! What fortune!" It's like finding a distant relative while in a foreign land! (At least, he imagines so.)
no subject
"It's good fortune indeed. I'm glad to know. Common threads do make everything that much easier, here especially."
no subject
"Yes!" With one last hearty pat to her shoulders he bows slightly.
"Three times over, if you have need of anything, you have but ask it of me." He would do it anyway, but even more so in return for the saddle, and as a kinsperson. Returning to Mikuniguro he walks around to tighten the girth more securely for riding.
"Would you like to ride Mikuniguro for a while? He is a well-trained war horse, and should not cause you any difficulty. Especially since you are experienced."
