Event Ten.

Little Willie, mean as hell,
Pushed his sister in a well.
Mother said, while drawing water,
"My, it's hard to raise a daughter."

t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well.

(And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!)

Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. Hopefully they can get a hand out! For more information, please go here!

Hey, you look better than The Ring chick - and I do have a change of clothes you could borrow, but most of our extras look like, uh, peasant wear from the age of knights or whatever? Or non-peasant wear. I do have some extra jeans and shit but I'm not sure they'd fit you.

[ they're skinny jeans and he's tall. :| ]

Also, welcome to Chroma. You've been interdimensionally kidnapped because, I dunno, color wars or something. I'm Dave.

[ he is in fact in a pair of his black skinny jeans and his record tee, so he looks normalish. ]

Cool. Even if literally everything is horrible, I'm glad I can say I place low on the list of people who looked completely awful after crawling out of a well.

[She makes a face while he describes the clothing choices she'll have, but it's the last sentence that really gives her pause. After a few moments:]

...I'm like 95% sure I misheard you. Color wars?

Honestly it's not really any kinda war - but the more quests and shit we do, the more color seems to come back, so. Also, everyone is assigned a district when they get here, which is associated with a color - Yellows are Flavo, blues are Bluo, and reds are Ruga. I'm a red, for the record, and that doesn't have to mean jack shit to you yet but it will when you want to do quests, if you wanna.

[ he jerks his head towards ruga and starts walking. ]

C'mon, I'll spot you a towel and an outfit. I also have cherry pie if you want a slice?

No, wait. Wait, wait, wait.

[She shakes her head as she says that, her eyes narrowing slightly, even as he starts to walk. Though there's hesitation, she follows after him, but she keeps speaking as she does.]

What do you mean, interdimensionally kidnapped?

Like, people here ain't all from the same worlds, and also all of us got spit out of the well at one point or another. We keep forgettin' to install a ladder.

[ someday...they will Do That ]

[It's tempting to tell him that isn't funny, but - with how completely different this place seems from what she's used to...]

..Okay, so assuming I'm not going crazy and this is actually happening, how do we go back?

Weeee haven't figured that out yet. [ sorry, nat. ] ...We started a garden? And also a community board.

...If we all showed up in the well, I just have to go back in and I should be able to find a way out, right?

People have definitely tried that and not succeeded - also apparently sleeping down there is a bad call.

[ PEOPLE TRIED THAT, TOO, ]

Wait, what happened when people tried to sleep down there?

[Only seconds after she's said that, she continues.]

Actually, never mind, I probably don't want to know. Do I want to know? Like, how bad are we talking on the scale of bad ideas?

I mean, they didn't die but the town made it clear that was a thing it didn't like. Mostly people get to see bullshit visions when they do things the town doesn't like.

[ he veers towards a purple house with a bunch of green ivy on it. ]

...Okay, I'm gonna forget literally any of this is happening for a few minutes and take you up on that pie.

[this seems like an excellent idea.]

Change of clothes, too. Want that first? I'd offer you a hot shower or bath or somethin' but we literally have to heat the water and haul it up because there is no indoor plumbing, so.

[ SO..............but he opens the door and the house is...

a house. there's captcharoids over all the walls and everything inside has color, often clashing. there's a skeleton in fancy dress in the living room, seated in an armchair. there's a tank with a blue lobster in it. there's a piano. dave heads over to a closet and pulls out some extra clothes that they have around that he thinks will fit natalie. ]

Bathroom's over there to change in, there's towels in there too, and I'll slice up the pie while you do that. You want apple juice or water?

[The overwhelming presence of color surprises her, given what she's seen outside, and the rest of the house is out of the ordinary as well. Her eyes linger on the skeleton and the lobster for a few moments each, before they come to rest on the piano. Before anything else, she gestures to it.]

Does every house have one of those?

[That being said, though, she looks back towards him and walks forward to take the clothes he's offering her.]

...Of course there's no indoor plumbing. Figures. And, um - let's go with apple juice, why not.

No, the piano belongs to my roommate. [ he hands over the clothes and points. ] Kitchen's back there with a dining table, I'll be in there when you're done.

[ since that's where the pie and such is! ]

[She nods, then, going into the bathroom that he indicated a few moments ago. She looks slightly more comfortable when she emerges, now that she's not wearing anything soaking wet.

Taking a seat, she glances at him.]

How'd you get your house looking... not normal, but not black and white?

[ dave's serving a slice of pie on a plate and has a glass of apple juice for her and also himself.

and he also flushes a little at the question. ]

Uh. [ it was either a kiss or the truth, and he's still not sure which he'd rather it be. ] It just happened for pretty much everyone several months back, but mine lost color pretty much the same month it got it...or like, near enough to. It's been coming back slow ever since, but it snapped back fully five days ago.

...Don't worry, I don't care enough to ask why you're blushing.

[she cares more about taking a bite of this pie. smh.]

Does that happen a lot? Stuff getting color and then randomly losing it, back and forth?

I'm not blushing. [ he is a little but. what else is he supposed to do when the color all came back after going I LIKE YOU and kissing someone. he makes a face, though. ] Tomatoes have lost and gained color like...multiple times. So sometimes things do go back and forth. Blood also lost color, but uh, it seems to be back now?

[ SO THAT'S...NICE??? ]

[She sighs.]

That's... bizarre and confusing, but literally everything you've told me is, so. Anyways, what are we supposed to, like, do?

[ WHAT IF HE DROPS THAT TOPIC... ]

Well. Mostly we've been doin' the quests that get posted to our shitty internet forum once a month. And we get rewards from that? The going theory is maybe if we do enough we'll bring back all the color and get to go home, or...something.

I noticed that and it kind of makes me want to ask why you're blushing after all.

[apparently that is what would happen, because she's a punk.]

...Okay, define quest. They made a really bad choice of interdimensional kidnapping victim if it's the kind of quest I'm thinking of.

[ LORD LET HIM LIVE he blushes a little worse because he's a pale idiot so ]

This month is "collect honey from bees", "fight fairies", "ruin someone's day", and "form new bonds". Guren forbid us all from doin' the day ruinin' one, but I doubt many people were super into it...well, Okuni seemed to want to pull pranks on people, but like, I don't count that as "serious".

Haha, it got worse.

[She pauses, now that she's done being a menace.]

Those all sound like they suck. Who's Guren, though? Is he in charge or something?

[ look................. look ]

He's head of the Defense Force and basically town Dad.

[ so...he's a responsible person in a town full of lackadasical morons... ]

I guess he's kind of in charge as much as anyone is?
