(If you asked Mutsunokami how much he cares about his appearances, he'd tell you he doesn't care too much, especially when he's always a little scratched up. That doesn't mean he doesn't take care of himself, though! You can't ignore your human body, after all. That's why it's important to rest and do some of those more boring, mundane human things like doing your laundry...
He's at a stream in the forest that other people in Chroma might also wash their clothes. He's sort of just chilling out while the water runs over his kimono, holding his fingers out in front of him and counting things down. He'll go at it for a little while, tracing something into the dirt next to him every now and then and then--)
How many people d'ya think used to live here?
(What's up, he knew you were nearby.)

Right now, he's just outside their house dozing off while some of his clothes are drying off after just washing them. They are, after all, the clothes he has from home so he should make sure to take care of them! His sword and gun are inside, probably just on the bed or something because he's not really worried about anyone breaking in and taking his stuff. But sometimes it isn't the outsiders you have to worry about but the insiders........)

Okuni heads immediately to the bed where the sword and gun are, success. The Smith and Wesson revolver catches her attention first -- it's a clearly more advanced than the guns Okuni is familiar with, it makes her want to learn how to shoot it... She hefts it up with both hands, then one hand, then turns it around to look at it from every angle. It's a bit like Kunitomo Toubee's pistol, almost. She can only imagine what that clan of rifle users would do if they got to see this.
(Mutsu is a tsukugami, so why does he also have a gun? Okuni remembers the gun Sakamoto carries. She didn't get to see it that closely when she first met him, but she wouldn't be surprised if they did turn out to be one and the same. She wants to ask if tsukumogami are allowed to carry weapons other than swords though. Speaking of swords...)
Okuni turns her attention to the uchigatana on the bed. Even she can tell that it's beautiful sword, despite Okuni's limited knowledge on the subject. Women aren't allowed to look at or hold swords of this kind of quality -- it's always been the realm of men for as long as Okuni's known. Not that it's ever stopped Okuni from carrying the Kumou sword with her, but the Kumou sword is her family sword -- not a samurai's sword. Okuni reaches out with both hands and plucks the sword from into bed, curiosity as usual overriding polite manners and good sense as she inspects it more closely, then turns her attention to the orange cloth wrapped neatly around the sheath. Decorative??? The color matches Mutsu's robe! Her rude fingers start tugging at it...]

He's still napping away when he starts to feel something. Okuni can't see it but he begins to shift, brushing away at something at his side that isn't there and mumbling to be left alone. He's having a good nap! Can't you see that? But it doesn't stop and something doesn't quite feel right. He's definitely feeling something prod and tug at him but... it's not a physical sort of feeling. At least, not in the literal way. Someone is definitely touching him, like someone just barely brushing against him and he's familiar enough with this distant but close feeling to know what it is once he starts to wake up.
He's alert and on edge once he understands but fortunately, it's only Okuni and he relaxes when he sees her picking at his sheathe, )
Pretty bold trying to dress me down. ( Because what it feels like! Like she's trying to take off a layer of his clothing. It doesn't help that his robe is still drying outside so he's just wearing his vest and his bandages. It's fitting, really. He speaks lightly enough and he's definitely not upset or anything but he can't help but look a little uncomfortable with both arms folded across his stomach (right over his bandages, even!) as he leans against the doorway. Really, of all the places she had to go poking at! Every time she tugs at the cord, one
cowlick twitcheshand twitches against his side and he can't help but grumble, ) ... Knock it off, will ya?( He doesn't like it. )

[Mutsu's already back!!!!!!! Okuni doesn't know the feeling of guilt or shame (this is a lie she feels both, but curiosity is taking center stage right now!!), so she merely turns around at the sound of his voice, caught red-handed.
She looks at the sword in her hand then back to Mutsu, eyebrows raised. Her rude fingers are still wrapped over the cord, though they're temporarily still now that he's here. The discomfort on his face doesn't go unnoticed by Okuni, mostly because Mutsu rarely ever looks uncomfortable, even when hauling her out of pits or shoving her into one.]
Did you know as soon as I picked it up? ["dress me down", he said!! She'd blush if she was a good girl. instead, she just gets this Gleam in her eyes...] You can feel everything I'm doing?
[she wants to know, for science]

Right now, he's sort of undoing his bandages which have become a little loose and is in the process of rebinding the ones around his waist. On his side, there's a distinct scar.
But maybe Sinistra is actually here for the food.)
no subject
But he can't not notice the bandages he's wrapping about his middle and the scar running up his side. He touches his own side out of habit. It runs up the opposite side of Mutsu's and looks more like something had been torn out of him. Still, he approaches and crouches maybe uncomfortably close to speak with him. ]
The same side as him...

Hey, hey. (HMMM) A little space, yeah?

It's on the same spot as ours... did you have a twin, too, Mutsunokami? Did they cut you off, too?

... They're just normal bees, right?
(It's easy to forget when these quests are worded so simply but... aren't all of the animals here a little weird? That goes for the bees too, doesn't it? Dave, did they think this through????)
i kept forgetting about this brilliantly NOW I CAN'T
[ UNFORTUNATELY... ]
But if we're lucky they won't breathe fire?
honestly my memory is also trash so (1/2)
Don't say that! You should see some of the ones back home... they're already scary enough!

Would ya rather deal with a bunch of small bees or one real big mean one?

Hm... if we say that at least one person lived in every house here, it still seems like a decent number of people.
no subject
(He nods, agreeing with her point because that's exactly what he was thinking.)
And that's just if ya assume only one person live in every house. We're not even thinking about people having families and stuff. So how does everyone forget the same thing?
no subject
[The laundry is being completely forgotten by now.]
If it was, say, a story or legend passed down from generations, it wouldn't be too surprising if, had enough time passed, people would forget it. But if it was something much more important... I'd say magic, or a curse.

Oh— Mr. Yoshiyuki?
[ She approaches and sets her basket down on the bank, but she doesn't get to work right away. Getting things ready gives her time to consider his question thoughtfully, and when she speaks, her tone carries that thoughtfulness, but it is serious. ]
I... think a lot of people. It's not really a small town, is it?
[ It sounds like a rhetorical question, but it's really not... She doesn't have much basis to judge the size of a town on. ]
no subject
That's right, E-li-za-beth.
(There's definitely a -san in there that got lost in translation but this is fine. He also just really likes saying her name? It's different and fun to say so let him enjoy it the first time around!!!)
Mm, I think it's small... but there are still a lot of houses so there have to be a lot of people, especially if ya go around thinking one or two people lived in every house at least.
So where'd everyone go? Sounds more like a ghost story than a folk story, don't ya think?
no subject
Right... I'm only really familiar with cities, so I guess I don't have much for scale for towns.
[ She shrugs helplessly, since it doesn't actually matter all that much, or at least not compared to the main question being asked here. While she answers, she settles herself on the bank so she can chat and work at the same time. A rough piece of fabric is laid out on the mud to avoid the clothes she's wearing right now getting dirty, but otherwise, she just gets to work. ]
It does. It's not too bad here, I don't think, but there's a lot that's definitely... creepy. [ She pauses before picking the word, since she wants to pick a good descriptor, but that one just seems the best. ] I don't always know how to take it. Even when I've looked at other Chromas, there's never people there either.

Quest 24
So... [Izuku glances at his friend as they step into the forest.] What kind of bees do you think we'll run into? It's kind of a toss up every time, isn't it?
no subject
( HE SIGHS! Because he has personal experience with this!! )
Some guys found real big ones and other guys founds real freaky ones... Dave and me found some spider ones. Ya ever see a real aggressive flying spider before?
( Because you don't want to, Izuku!!! )
no subject
Uh, can't say I have, but... [Izuku clenches his hands into fists, looking determined.] It'll be okay, even if we run into it again. Between the two of us, we've got this!
no subject
I'm not sure, but it was probably the size of a small town. I wonder if they had neighbors they could visit or did people just live here in the town.
no subject
But even if this place is a small town, it had a lot of people, right?
no subject
I think it did. There are a lot of houses here it looks like there were a lot of people that lived here. Maybe the districts used to have different things like Bluo fished or caught food and the yellow district took care of plants or something like that. Do you think there would be some information about it in the library?
