[Shouto's where he said he would be. He's in his hero outfit, which really just looks like a janitor's uniform with a few extras strapped on for good measure. But he's just gotten his new clothes, he'd rather not have to go scavenging for new ones.

He's scanning around for Mysterious and Keith... only to realize he has no idea what Keith looks like. It's such an obvious oversight...]

[Maybe going out and accomplishing a task will make Midoriya happier?

Who knows if they'll be able to find the gold leaf- he's hoping for the best. Besides, Yuuya said he had good color sight.]

Probably a good idea. I can scratch them with ice, but it's probably not great for the trees.

Maybe some string?

[salutations]

[His head tilts, ever so slightly. Well, it was good to go into it with a certain level of concern. He was fortunate, maybe, to be able to keep up a happy face while moving cautiously.]

String sounds like the best way to do it. If we tie it and let the loose ends hang down, we'll be able to spot it even without color.

[Even with some things restored, it wasn't nearly enough to leave a good mark in the grayscale forest. He'd probably be fine with the ice as he didn't particularly care for the ecology of the strange deathtrap forest. But, well, it was easier to build on suggestions that were out there.]

[inheritance]

[Izuku tilts his head, too, trying to remember what supplies they actually have on hand.] I don't think I have any string, but... there's some old fabrics lying around that are way too damaged to use for clothes or blankets.

Maybe we could rip those up to tie on the trees.

[glaciers]

Sounds like our best bet right now. Do you know where they are? I threw most of mine into a different house while the furniture was mad.

[salutations]

I've got a few things tucked away, too.

My old school sold nesting materials at the student store but since there's clearly no such thing here... well, [he puts a wing over his breast, modestly, this is talking about *~adult matters~* like nesting, after all.] I keep an eye out for them.

[inheritance]

[Izuku blinks, looking over at Yuuya, momentarily distracted from his unhappy thoughts by someone potentially needing some help.] Sakazaki-kun, did you need more um, nesting material? I still have the fabric saved back in my house.

We don't have to use anything of yours if you still need it, either.

[glaciers]

... Are you building a nest?

[He didn't see any nests in the trees, can large pigeons put their in houses? Maybe they can.]

[salutations]

A bird of a certain nature knows he may at any point be expected to build a nest. I simply like to be ready.

[a beat]

Anyways, it's nothing to concern yourselves with! We can use it or not, whichever's quickest for our mission.

[inheritance]

I'll take your word for it. [Izuku simply nods, as serious as one can be when discussing nests.]

If you really don't mind us using what you have, let's go with that for now.

[At least they'll be aware of Yuuya needing the materials from now on.]

[glaciers]

[... Is that true? Actually he doesn't know how often birds need to nest. Does he need fluffier cotton? Shouto doesn't have a lot like that.]

Should we come back after we've gathered up all the scraps we know are around?

[salutations]

["Is that true?" is the underlying question of dealing with Yuuya. It's really hard to tell.]

Right! Reconvene in fifteen minutes, my friends. [It's not trouble for him to go back and grab stuff. He'll do so alone, assuring the others that he's got it covered.]

[And, as he's promised, there's a lot of stuff! He clearly doesn't need cloth for clothing, so any of those scraps that a person would probably pass by as being "too damaged" could easily be picked up by a bird. There's definitely some usable strips of fabric in the small pile he brings along.]

Here we go! This should serve us well.

[inheritance]

I brought my backpack. [Izuku opens said backpack--with his notebook tucked away inside just in case, of course--and holds it out to Yuuya.]

We can keep the fabric we're not using in here for now.

[glaciers]

[Shouto comes back with an armful of cloth scraps. He only knows about the ones he went and found near in his house. But they don't have that much time for searching for cloth.

He'll just place the ones he's found into Midoriya's bag.]

Alright. Are we ready to start?

[salutations]

[And then all the pieces of cloth are secured! Yuuya will keep a few tucked under his wing, so he can hand them as he flies if need be.]

Ready as we'll ever be. You make sure to touch the trunks, Midoriya. I'll see if brushing a wing against the leaves themselves does anything.

[And they can both keep an eye out for anything that may give them a clue to the mysterious golden leaf.]

[inheritance]

Got it. [With some scraps tucked into his pocket for easy access, Izuku shoulders his backpack.

And off they go! When they reach the edge of the forest, Izuku reaches out to brush a hand over the nearest tree. There's no reaction, as far as he can tell as he squints up at the leaves, so he ties a scrap of fabric to a branch.]

That's...one down. [And who knows how many more to go.]

[glaciers]

... Do you want me to hold the backpack?

[Because he feels like he's not doing very much here. At the very least he can be a pack mule.]

[salutations]

[There's a rustle as Yuuya makes sure his wing solidly smacks the mess of leaves. It accomplishes nothing but making of a few of them fall off and drift lazily to the ground.]

[One down!]

[He doesn't have a comment on Shouto's relative usefulness or uselessness though. It's not up to him if he carries something or not. And he didn't even ask in a way he could tease him for! Boring.]

[inheritance]

I've got it, Todoroki-kun. [Izuku smiles at him before tugging the strips of cloth out of his pocket and presses them into Todoroki's hands.]

Why don't you tie the fabric on the branches? [There. Now all three of them are involved!]

[glaciers]

[He gives a nod and pulls out one of the scraps to tie around the tree they've just touched.]

I don't think it would be this close to the edge of the forest. That would make it easier.

[salutations]

That's a fair point. [And as they get further out, well. They'll encounter... something. With these two, he's not as worried as he would be going solo. There's something like prior experience here. It was easier to get information when someone had a fair idea already.]

Still, there's no point in missing any along the way. It'd be short-sighted.

[tap, tap, tap the leaves...]

[inheritance]

I think so, too. [Izuku's hand touches another tree's grey bark as they walk--so to speak.]

It's better to be thorough the first time than have to go back and search for something you might have missed.

[glaciers]

That's fair.

[He wraps cloth around the trees as they go.]

It'd be easier if we had more to go off of than retrieve a golden leaf. At least it's straightforward.

[salutations]

Well, I hardly think our forum friend has easiness in mind!

[There's definitely nothing that stands out in the trees as a golden leaf. He'd considered a few alternate interpretations that might work but none seemed surefire. Although maybe if he'd figured something else he would feel more confident about it.]

I wonder, though, if the leaf has any properties that makes it useful or if this is just some fetchquest.

[inheritance]

[Izuku keeps half an eye on the trees he's touching along the way and half on the path before them for any surprises.]

Think it'd be too much to hope it has medicinal properties? Even with all the healers we have in town, it'd be useful to have something all of us could give as first aid.

[At this point, he's a little more realistic in terms of what to expect, but he can't help but hold onto that sliver of optimism anyway.]

[glaciers]

It's more likely to be edible. If it has a color right now, it's something that has taste.

... I wouldn't try eating it though. We have to bring it back.
