We've got different versions of the same planets now? [Really? What the hell kind of place is this.] Out of everywhere, I've never been to Japan so I wouldn't know if Persona users exist there.

Yeah. Ichinose-san is from a Japan where there was a really bad epidemic, for instance, but that hasn't happened back home and isn't in any danger of happening.

[A beat, and:]

We could be from the same world though. What year are you from?

[hydrokinetics]

[Yikes. Yikes??] That sounds like something I'd like to avoid, for the record. [But yeah. Years. Because Riordan is terrible and doesn't know his own timeline!!]

It's 2010 for me. Early 2010...it was January before I got here. You?

[messianic]

Oh... almost the same for me. It was March 2010.

[That's interesting...]

I think we're the closest of most of the people I've talked to.

[hydrokinetics]

Annabeth might be closer to you then. She's a few months ahead of me, too. Weird how it works. [...] For now the world's safe and we might make it through 2010, but for a while it was kind of questionable.

[messianic]

...back where we're from, we've gone up against a lot of people that wanted to overthrow the Olympians or just destroy humanity entirely. First it was Kronos during the Titan War, and last summer we had to fight Gaea and the giants. When things like that happen, we're never really sure we'll make it out alive. [A frown.] The worse part is there's something else now that we have to fix. It's a company that might've been tied to those events, too. Apollo explained it to us before he left Camp and before I got here, but there's nothing I can do about it now.

[...] We've lost a lot of friends because of it though, even if ultimately the world was safe.

[messianic]

Olympians...? Giants? Does this all go back to the demigod thing?

[Because that all sounds...]

Everything you said just sounds a lot like mythology.

[A beat, and:]

I'm sorry...that you lost friends like that, though.

[hydrokinetics]

[A shrug.] Most demigods don't get a very happy life. Not really. Losing people's always been hard but there are some times it was necessary just to save the world. [Sacrifices. He doesn't even know the details of the death of one of his closest friends, and he's not sure how to cope with that.]

But yeah. That's because everything for us is a lot like mythology. [He scratches the back of his neck.] Annabeth and I are children of the Greek pantheon.

[messianic]

[... Greek, huh... Minato snorts softly at that, vaguely amused despite himself, despite the situation.]

... Yeah, me too. Sort of. [That's just murmured, though, and then he shakes his head.]

It sounds like you've been through a lot already. Are you...sure you're okay?

[hydrokinetics]

[He raises an eyebrow. Sort of, Minato? Please explain.]

...yeah. [And he means that sincerely, but mostly in the way of someone who knows there's really no other way around this.] That's just how fate goes sometimes. Sometimes you spend your whole life with everyone thinking you're just a troublemaker, getting kicked out of every school you've ever attended. Sometimes you learn that you might not live past 16 unless you figure out a really vague prophecy. And sometimes you have to sacrifice things to save the world. [A shrug.] I'm used to it.

The only reason this place bothers me is because I have other stuff I have to get back to.

[messianic]

[He thinks that sounds sad too. To be used to that sort of thing... isn't that too sad as well?

... Minato sacrificed everything too. But that doesn't mean that he's used to it, even if he did accept the necessity of it.]

... You'll get back to them. Without a doubt. So maybe... can you take this time to breathe a little?

[hydrokinetics]

I can, but it depends on what's happening back home. I was out of commission for a while and things escalated pretty fast after that. Not sure I'm interested in doing that again.

[messianic]

Back home... I think that it'll be okay. Keith-san said that when he went back home briefly, nothing had changed.

[So...]

Time might not be moving the same for here and for home.

[hydrokinetics]

You think? Are we just suspended here? [Somehow he sounds very calm and exhausted at the same time.] I guess that means the world's in less danger of blowing up, so that's good.

[messianic]

[...... Percy...]

You know, the longer we talk, the more worried about you I am. [JUST SAYING.]

[hydrokinetics]

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend being a halfblood to most people. But at the same time maybe it's better that we handle these things than mortals.

[messianic]

... Why do you say that?

[It's an interesting way to put it, honestly.]

[hydrokinetics]

Because at least we have the advantage that mortals don't. If it'll keep them safe, that's what counts.

[messianic]

... But that's not...

[His brow furrows a little, and then he shakes his head.]

I want to do what I can too. To protect people, and to keep them safe. Even if I am just a mortal... I think it's that way for a lot of people.

[hydrokinetics]

[A frown.] I'm not saying mortals can't help. My mom and my stepdad held their own really well during the Titan war. It's just that not all mortals can really see what it is they're fighting either. It puts them at a disadvantage.

[messianic]

Sometimes prophecies are like that. [So yes.] Think about it this way, Minato. Would you accept help from someone if it meant they could get hurt, or would you do what's best for everyone at large?

... It depends on the situation.

[He's done it--he's accepted help from people who did their absolute best, and people got hurt.

Whether it was right or wrong... he doesn't know. And in the end, he was the one who paid the ultimate price, but it still wasn't him alone.]

But I think it sounds...terribly lonely, to bear all of that by yourself.

I have Annabeth. And my other friends. They understand when I have to do things on my own and I'm starting to figure out when they have to do things themselves, too. I guess I never thought of it as lonely though.
