tinuvielberen. Ribbit!
[ He’d been puzzled by the frog-kissing quest at first, but a bit of time in the library answered at least some of his questions regarding frogs and fairy tales. When you kiss a frog, they transform into a handsome prince. Or princess. Obviously if he’s the one doing the kissing, the frog ought to transform into a princess. Faultless logic. Thus, full of boundless optimism and high spirits, he ventures out into town to find and rescue some amphibious friends. ]

[ ...a huge clump of wet, rained-on snow slides off the roof of the well, catching him in the back of the neck and sending him catapulting down into the well. No good deed goes unpunished. Even as he tumbles, he doesn't drop the frog, drawing it to himself and trying his best to protect it with his body.
Splash! ]

Prepared as he was for this eventuality, he wasn't quite prepared to be basically hugged by a total stranger, while stuck in frog form, while falling into a well. He freezes up! Not a single sound from him! As they splash back into the well he'd only just escaped mere moments before.
The shock of cold water shocks him out of that moment's confusion though, and he'll take advantage of his slippery little frog body to wiggle out of the poor man's grasp and hop up onto whatever part of his body is safely out of the water. A knee maybe? His head? Sorry guy, he might be a frog but he still prefers dry land.
You get an apology chirp for your troubles, at least.]

ow. ]
Are you all right?
[ That was a hard fall, but his cultivation is just sufficiently high enough that he didn't break anything. Not that he cares; he's worried about the frog. He sighs, relieved, when it wriggles from his grasp and hops to higher ground (the side of his head, the little froggy feet cold against his ear. ]
Haha, sorry about that. I'll get you out of here, don't worry!

...If only Ruo Ye were here, they could get out easily.....did it disappear along with his clothes? He knows he had it before, that's how he got out the first time, so it must have gone wherever his clothes went when he changed, right? It's the only explanation he can think of at the moment, anyway.
Those little froggy feet will move to a more convenient location once the human gets up, at least.]

It's easier getting out of the well than it used to be.
[ There had been a thick layer of magical ice covering the well when he'd arrived. ]
Now, I'm going to put you somewhere safe and warm for a little while. Don't worry, it won't be long, just until I've climbed out of here.
[ Sorry frog, he's stuffing you into his lapels for the moment. He needs both hands to climb. Up he goes. ]

He freezes up again at getting suddenly manhandled (froghandled?) into someone's shirt, but. The well is cold, and the body is warm...his highness the frog calms down rather quickly as a result, even going so far as to wriggle his way into a slightly more comfortable position as he waits for them to reach safety up above.
Thank you, kind stranger! If they'd switched places he might have considered catching you for dinner, and he feels kind of bad about realizing that!]

He starts to reach for the frog, but his hand hesitates. ]
If I change you back here, your clothes will be wet, if you came out of the well earlier. It's cold outside. Let me take you somewhere warmer, where you can dry off.
[ He looks down. He can't help patting the little frog gently, through his clothes. ]
Is that okay?
[ Not that he understands frog, but it seems polite to ask. ]
no subject
That probably counts as a yes, right? The possibility that he might one day have to figure out how to communicate as a frog is one that's never once sprung to his mind before...he can't say he regrets that, it's not as if such events are normal in any sense of the word--but regardless, someplace warm and dry would definitely be appreciated, and it's not like he could argue against it anyway in his current state...no that's a lie, he could probably wriggle out and escape if he wanted...
But as they say, one should never look a gift horse in the mouth.]

He'd only caught a brief glimpse of it at the well, before the both of them had tumbled inside. Now that he looks at it carefully, he can tell: it really is special. The red and gold patterns are beautiful and auspicious. He's kissed a lot of frogs before, but now for some reason he feels shy. ]
I can turn you back, now.
[ He'd had little compunction about grabbing and kissing most of the other frogs, because presumably everyone knew how the quest worked. But for this tiny creature, it will come as a complete surprise. ]
I should warn you. To break the spell, I... I have to kiss you. Are you ready?
[ All of a sudden, his mouth is dry. ]

And did he say "kiss"? He said that. That's...that's the solution.
Um.
The frog hesitates - for all that it's possible for a frog to look hesitant - but ultimately, it doesn't seem like he has much choice here, does he? And the young man's been so helpful! Where else could he possibly find such a convenient spell-breaker? (Why is this even a spell common enough for a random stranger to take one look at him and know that's what's going on?)
So Xie Lian hesitates. But after that quiet moment, he chirps again, quietly, and closes his eyes in hopes that'll make this go by quicker. There's an apology running through his mind right now, but to who exactly is something even he isn't quite sure of.]

She's probably had enough of falling, after all, even if he's there to catch her.
He kneels in front of her, and bends down for a kiss. The frog is so small, and he has to bow so low, that it feels like a kowtow. As he presses his lips against the frog's dainty mouth, he thinks to himself fancifully:
One for the heavens... ]

There's a beautiful young bride here, taller than one might expect but fully decked out in the dress and veil and everything.
After a moment of disorientation, the first thing he does is cover his face in his hands, in an attempt to hide the fact he's turned as red as his clothes.]
..................Thank you.

But the person in front of him is being much too silent.
Has he gotten up? Is he just quiet from shock? The god has no idea what he looks like right now, but he remembers Nan Feng and Fu Yao's expressions had been quite strange when they saw him, so it's probably pretty bad, right? He peeks through his fingers, a little bit worried at the lack of a response...]

N-n-n-no, please, you really don't need to--I swear, this is all some sort of misunderstanding, you really wouldn't want me, I-I don't even know your name...!

When he was a boy, if anyone asked him what he thought of arranged marriages, he'd snort. He'd marry for love, if he married at all. In fact, sometimes he wondered what sort of bride his parents might have picked out for him, had they lived. With whom would they wish him to seek happiness lifelong? Still, the idea of marrying someone without ever seeing their face, was one he'd never contemplate.
And yet, this is a bride selected for him, surely, by some heavenly influence. Instantly, he believes that he must go along with fate.
—ah, she's asking his name. So he can ask hers, of course. What a sweet girl. ]
Wei Wuxian. I beg you, tell me yours, also.
[ He reaches for her hands, to quiet her flailing. How shy, how pure. ]

[Maybe mentioning his name wasn't the best way to go about deterring him, but honestly it's really hard to think of a coherent answer when he's this flustered, and now that the question's been turned on him (and his hands are caught) he....well, he does manage to calm down enough to answer that, at least.]
...My name is Xie Lian. [The pretty name probably does nothing to help this situation...there's a half-second's pause before he starts babbling again.]
I, er, I really do mean it though, when I say this is a misunderstanding! You wouldn't--this isn't-- [Deep breath, Xie Lian--] I...I'm a man, not a real bride, I'm truly sorry Mister Wei, you've been very kind, if you'll excuse me--
[Except while he turns away he doesn't actually go anywhere, because his hands are still caught and he can't trust himself to pull away gently and also he can't figure out what direction to actually go at the moment, eyes desperately looking anywhere but at the man in front of him.]

[ What a low and melodious voice. He begins to lean down, ready to kowtow once more. And one for Xie — ]
