Christmas Is All About Shenanigans

i: Christmas is all about finding the biggest Christmas tree

[She goes out into the forest with a Purpose in mind. She'd gotten a good look at the forest from high above, to see if there were any exceptionally tall trees in the forest.

What she brought back in the end was around 60 feet tall. She sets it up somewhere close to the middle of town but then she's left with a problem: how does she make it stand?

Which is why, you'll find her with a 60 foot tree lying on its side nearby as she floats above the ground with one hand out. Dirt flies out of a hole she's digging.]

Hey. [If you're someone she doesn't know she'll just wave you over but if she does know you she'll come drag you over by the arm.] What do you think? Is it deep enough to make the tree stand?

[It probably isn't, alas.]

ii: Obligatory network announcement

so i brought the BIGGEST CHRISTMAS TREE i could find and set it up in town.

[People have noticed already. It is a 60feet tall tree suddenly standing tall in town.]

but it's not really a christmas tree until we decorate it, right? who can help me make decorations? and also, do you think we could make lights to hang on it? maybe with candles? that's what they used to do, right?

[That sounds like a really bad idea, Kaoru...]

iii: Decorating~

[The bottom of tree is beginning to look pretty good at this point but the top still needs some work. Unfortunately, Kaoru's power does have a limit and she can't just pick up the ornaments they've made from sixty feet away. So she's at the bottom, choosing the next decorations she wants to pick up...when she suddenly shoves a pile into your arms.]

Hold onto that, okay?

[Then she's picking you, some more ornaments and herself up with her powers. At least if it's your first time flying with her like this she'll stop when they're two feet up but if you've flown with her before she's taking you both straight to the top.]

iv: the mistletoe option

[So. If anyone should not have gotten a box of mistletoe because she won't be responsible, it's probably Kaoru.

But since that's exactly what she got, she was going to be responsible with it--hahaha. As if.

What happens is: you and someone else will be walking around town, just minding your business when suddenly there's mistletoe floating above you. If you miss it, it will keep following you around until you notice it. And if it takes to long it will swoop down and knock against your head.

Kaoru is hiding somewhere (obviously), but she's definitely observing from somewhere not too far away (and if you're Shiho she's making sure her feet isn't touching the ground and that she isn't touching anything else either).

Call her out, try to escape, ignore this whole thing, or attempt to destroy the mistletoe. Either way, something unexpected might happen. (Or kiss. That's simple enough).]

((OOC: for option 4, Kaoru might show up or she might not...either way she will make the mistletoe "respond". To clarify, the mistletoe is perfectly normal...but Kaoru isn't going to just let anyone off the hook with this prank. I'm assuming people are responding to this in pairs. If not, please contact me on plurk or add an OOC note and she'll make a variation to the prank...maybe try to get them to kiss a horse or a tree or something.))

[ It's not anything unusual to walk around with Damian (a thought Kisa will revise once ghosts happen but thankfully this is pre-ghosts). And it's more that she's run into him during a wandering spree. Nothing strange about that either.

No, what the strange thing is... is that there seems to be a floating plant determined to follow them, and she's starting to get confused. ]

... What... is this?

[Oh. Uh. This is great. At first, Damian is also confused. Not by the plant but by the fact it’s floating and following them. He knows what it is almost immediately, but saying so is embarrassing because of the tradition. Hm, bad.]

A toxic parasite.

[He sees you, mistletoe. He isn’t afraid to call it like it is. Which is more than he can do currently. It’s too high up for him to swat it out of the air.] Let’s keep going.

Okay, but--

[ And she's going to attempt to follow this... suggestion? Order??

And of course the mistletoe is following them. ]

[The mistletoe is definitely following them but you know what else happens? The dirt in front of them suddenly rises up into a low wall blocking their path.

It won't be hard to step around it or jump over it, but like. Kaoru's trying to Make a Point here.

(No, she just thinks it's kind of funny.)]

[It bad enough the mistletoe is chasing them. Now there’s a wall? The town has never played so many tricks on all of them back to back. He puts an arm out in front of Kisa when the dirt rises, but... it isn’t attacking and it’s not much of a hinderance. Slowly, he tips his head to see if the mistletoe is still following.

Yeah. It is.

Nice try, town! Not this time.] This way. [They’ll just... go around. Well, Damian will and Kisa likely is going to follow.] Mistletoe. Another one of the town’s tricks, I’m assuming.

[ Well, he's not wrong. She's going to follow him, though now she's sticking much closer because this?? Is unnerving?? ]

What does it want?

[ Look, there's no member of the Sohma family who would have explained mistletoe to her. ]

[Surprisingly (or not surprisingly), Damian doesn't answer. He keeps walking some ways with Kisa in tow, both followed by the... petulant mistletoe. When he finally thinks to pause to glance up and back--

--it's still there.

His sigh is exasperated.] To be a nuisance. [Shoo? He's... a thirteen year old boy... Let him rest.] I blame the Celtic druids. It's a parasitic plant that feeds off the host tree.

But the druids believed it to be miraculous because it survived winters. [The mistletoe gets a glare.] You're supposed to kiss under it. [He is not going to say some legends are kiss and pluck berries until they're gone because REASONS.]

[ ...

Why does this keep happening.

Look, Kisa may have kissed him, but that had been an act of desperation to save her friend, and she'd been massively embarrassed about it way later after the fact, but this? Here? Now???

She sure is red now. ]

U-um. You have to?

Debatable. Legend claims men are able to steal kisses of women who stand under it. [Slowly, his eyes lower. He's a Wayne. The first thing he's going to look for it something to smack it with.

Maybe this is an al Ghul thing really.

But when he glances over at her and spots her red face, he gives her the weirdest expression ever.] What's wrong with you? Are you blushing?

We're not going to kiss, dammit.

No, I'm--

[ Yes. Yes, she is, and now she's mortified and pressing her hands to her face in an attempt to get the heat in it to settle down. ]

I-I know we're not-- I just... t-thinking about is a little...

[Geez. He can't believe he's stuck between Kisa and a mistletoe. Looking back up, he stares long and hard and ways his options. Sure, he could smash it down with whatever he finds. Hell, he can even shred it with batarangs.

But if it's an entity of the town, is it going to matter?

Again, he glances at Kisa who is still partially covering her face with her hands.] I'm going to attempt to-- [But before he can finish, he gets a face full of slapping leaves and berries. By the time he jerks his head back, the mistletoe is half a foot out of his reach.] If I'm stuck here for an entire year, I'm going to murder everything. [Exasperated, he rubs his face where it got whacked by the mistletoe.]

This is ridiculous.

Maybe... it'll go away on its own? E-eventually?

[ Look, she's not happy about this either. But she'd also Damian not set the whole town on fire out of spite and embarrassment. The mistletoe seems to have a mind of its own, though, so all she can really do is hope that it doesn't piss him off further. ]

Unlikely.

[A mistletoe that won't fuck off? He's already pissed. Just because he freaking tries to keep Kisa out of trouble, just because they happened to kiss once, for a mere second, in desperation to keep him from perishing gives this place no right to keep tormenting them, he thinks!

Both of his fists ball like he plans to just double cartwheel up in the air and slam dunk the mistletoe in the trash.

Except he turns toward Kisa and, with a hardened look over her head, says very seriously:] Kiss me.

...

You... really look like you don't want me to.

[ In a very meek tone, which is nothing unusual, except that Kisa's gotten a little more confident when speaking to Damian, so.

Yeah, it's probably a little unusual now, though likely also extremely understandable. ]

[Well, this is a very Wayne thing to be accused of really. Or maybe a very Batman thing. She's not wrong. He looks awful. Grumpy and not at all kissable.]

Irrelevant. There's a mission to complete.

[One, two. When he exhales, his hands loosen and his shoulders drop. The expression doesn't get happy, but it becomes more focused than simply irritable. He's scaring her, and she isn't going to go through with it if that's the case. He's not sure he'll be able to convince her either. He just wants it to leave them alone, his pride be damned.

So without any kind of warning, he reaches up to take her by the face, and he kisses her instead.]

[ Unlike pretty much anyone else who may or may not find themselves kissing someone this month, Kisa is not swamped by feelings of loving affection and a desire to continue this kiss, largely because she's still reeling from the fact that Damian just went for it like he was going into battle.

And also because she's twelve and still trying to figure out how she even feels about this and/or him, and it'd admittedly hard to think when her thoughts have slammed to a halt.

Which is also why she's frozen and still flushed, and only recovers enough to take one step back before she-- wobbles to the ground.

Oh, dear. ]

[At the very least, the one good thing to come out of this is the fact Damian doesn't make a face about the kiss. (Or spit or wipe his mouth.) And he also doesn't not let her get her own space when she moves back and sinks down.

Honestly, he's surprised she's not a tiger by now.]

Sorry. [He amazingly has the decency to apologize, something he doesn't give very many people at all.] It was the quickest method of getting it to potentially leave us alone.

[Sorry you had to kiss stupid, gross Damian Wayne, Kisa.]

[ Luckily for the both of them, he grabbed her by the face and didn't do any dramatic clutching elsewhere.

Although, truthfully, Kisa would rather be a tiger now, because tigers don't blush. As it stands, she remains fully human, just with her head bowed, staring fixedly at the ground as though that will help her recover faster.

(It doesn't.) ]

... It's... okay. You don't have to. [ Apologize, she means. ]

I know... you didn't mean anything.

[ Good or bad. He'd called it a mission, after all. ]

[A slow, disgruntled expression comes to his face. He's not sure what to do with her. Logically, he understands it was the best, quickest course of action. On the other hand, he supposes he remembers how weird it had been to be kissed.

What would Batman do?

Bending over, he extends his hand out to her, low enough she'll be able to see it out of her peripheral.] Don't put words in my mouth. Come on. We can talk about it later.

We need to make sure we get away from it.

[ She's still slow to glance up, but after a minute, she'll reach out her hand to take his and shift to her feet. She's not entirely sure she wants to talk about it at all, but she can think about that another time.

Because Damian's right, they need to make sure the mistletoe's not still following them. ]

[Standing back up, he brings her with him. When he glances back up, the mistletoe is, in fact, blessedly gone. Weird. Suspiciously, he surveys the skies just in case, wondering if it had been a product of the town like everything else.

Finally, he looks back to her, feeling a tad awkward.] Your house or mine? [He needs to know which direction to start walking.

He also hasn't let go of her hand.]

... Yours.

[ Because Sierra is probably home and she does not want to really have to explain anything about this to Vampire Mom right now. But huh. Huh!!!

Damian, you don't have to hold her hand, she knows how to get there! ]
