Christmas Is All About Shenanigans

i: Christmas is all about finding the biggest Christmas tree

[She goes out into the forest with a Purpose in mind. She'd gotten a good look at the forest from high above, to see if there were any exceptionally tall trees in the forest.

What she brought back in the end was around 60 feet tall. She sets it up somewhere close to the middle of town but then she's left with a problem: how does she make it stand?

Which is why, you'll find her with a 60 foot tree lying on its side nearby as she floats above the ground with one hand out. Dirt flies out of a hole she's digging.]

Hey. [If you're someone she doesn't know she'll just wave you over but if she does know you she'll come drag you over by the arm.] What do you think? Is it deep enough to make the tree stand?

[It probably isn't, alas.]

ii: Obligatory network announcement

so i brought the BIGGEST CHRISTMAS TREE i could find and set it up in town.

[People have noticed already. It is a 60feet tall tree suddenly standing tall in town.]

but it's not really a christmas tree until we decorate it, right? who can help me make decorations? and also, do you think we could make lights to hang on it? maybe with candles? that's what they used to do, right?

[That sounds like a really bad idea, Kaoru...]

iii: Decorating~

[The bottom of tree is beginning to look pretty good at this point but the top still needs some work. Unfortunately, Kaoru's power does have a limit and she can't just pick up the ornaments they've made from sixty feet away. So she's at the bottom, choosing the next decorations she wants to pick up...when she suddenly shoves a pile into your arms.]

Hold onto that, okay?

[Then she's picking you, some more ornaments and herself up with her powers. At least if it's your first time flying with her like this she'll stop when they're two feet up but if you've flown with her before she's taking you both straight to the top.]

iv: the mistletoe option

[So. If anyone should not have gotten a box of mistletoe because she won't be responsible, it's probably Kaoru.

But since that's exactly what she got, she was going to be responsible with it--hahaha. As if.

What happens is: you and someone else will be walking around town, just minding your business when suddenly there's mistletoe floating above you. If you miss it, it will keep following you around until you notice it. And if it takes to long it will swoop down and knock against your head.

Kaoru is hiding somewhere (obviously), but she's definitely observing from somewhere not too far away (and if you're Shiho she's making sure her feet isn't touching the ground and that she isn't touching anything else either).

Call her out, try to escape, ignore this whole thing, or attempt to destroy the mistletoe. Either way, something unexpected might happen. (Or kiss. That's simple enough).]

((OOC: for option 4, Kaoru might show up or she might not...either way she will make the mistletoe "respond". To clarify, the mistletoe is perfectly normal...but Kaoru isn't going to just let anyone off the hook with this prank. I'm assuming people are responding to this in pairs. If not, please contact me on plurk or add an OOC note and she'll make a variation to the prank...maybe try to get them to kiss a horse or a tree or something.))

[She thought, a tree would be easy. It can't be that much heavier than a tank, right?

But the sheer size of it and the size made it a big tricky. Especially since it took her a long time to find one with a good shape and she didn't want to ruin it by dragging it on the ground or holding the branches wrong.

Obviously, this required some assistance.

She heads back into town to, quite literally, grab Izuku and fly back into the forest.]

Come on, it's over here!

[Did she even explain anything besides, 'I need you to help me carry something'? Probably not.]

[Hanging out with Shiho is rapidly becoming a very normal option for Minato's day-to-day activities. It's so easy and natural to just invite her along when he's off wandering around, and having her there always seems to brighten up even the most mundane activities to something so much more enjoyable.

So...!

That's the case here as well. They're probably doing something totally inconsequential like checking out people's cute decorated trees, and Minato, for one, is absolutely unaware of Kaoru's observation. ... He's also unaware of the mistletoe, but that's just for the moment.

How are you doing, Shiho?]

( Mutsu is always more than glad to offer a helping hand almost as much as he's happy to try new things. He's curious about these winter customs. He isn't completely sure why they're decorating trees but it looks fun and he's more than glad to help. He has big arms! So he can carry a lot of ornaments easily. )

I dunno, it looks pretty high--

( For them to reach even with his extra height? But before he can really finish speaking, he's being lifted off the ground and he yelps, holding onto the ornaments tightly, a few falling down in his surprise.

He's never flown before? So he's probably just floating in the air with his dumb fake tail just barely off the ground, thanks. )

Gah!

( Should he be afraid? Is he gonna fall? heY????? )

[Shiho isn't even thinking about the evil her best friend could do with a box of mistletoe. She knew she had it, because there were no secrets between the two of them but she hadn't thought that Kaoru would try anything. They'd been friends for eleven years, surely that counted for something?

Besides, Kaoru should know that Shiho did not like being trifled with.

So she's walking beside him with a carefree smile, one hand coming up to rest on his arm before pointing out an ornament.]

That one is really cute! [It looks like a bunch of fabric tied onto a tree but she helped with this one and mostly just wants to be told she did a good job.]

[They've been friends for eleven years and it's exactly why she knows she can do this without being killed.

Also, given that Kaoru's crush isn't in Chroma anymore she's safe from a similar retaliation. She may be sad about Kirishima, but this one time it's an advantage.

Also, as they talk, a sprig of mistletoe, slowly descends from above until it was hovering between them but slightly in front so they'd see it.]

[The ornaments that fell stop in mid air before floating gently back to the top of the pile in his arms.]

Don't worry, I can get us up there! [She'll keep them both at this height until he looks ready.

In the meantime, she reaches a hand out to pat him on the shoulder.] You're not afraid of heights, are you?

[Shiho's pointing out of that ornament does exactly what she expects it to--Minato has no idea Shiho made it, but he's charmed by the entire town's efforts at making some sort of Christmas decorations, so.]

It looks really festive... I'm impressed everyone managed to make things look so...

[... good...

Sorry, he trails off despite himself when that mistletoe descends, because not even Minato is oblivious when it's right there in front of them.

.......]

... Oh.

[Oh.

IS... IS THIS A TOWN THING.]

(It takes him a moment to get used to... everything! The the ornaments float right back up and his eyes practically start sparkling with wonder. They're flying. He's flying!

THEY'RE GONNA FLY.)

Huh? Nah, no way! (or so he thinks, hmmm. Yes, he's pretty sure he isn't afraid of heights (He isn't).) I'm ready when you are!

[The shadow is what Shiho sees first before the little sprig of greenery floats down in front of them.

It could be a town thing.

But she knows who has mistletoe and who had the ability (and the guts) to do stuff like this.

It's... not that she doesn't want to.... BUT!!]

....Maybe someone lost this. We don't need to- [She waves a hand at the floating bit of mistletoe.] You... You can just ignore it. ...Someone'll take this away soon enough. Or they better if they know what's good for them.

[No one is pressuring Minato into doing something he doesn't want to while she's here!]

Whoa! [At least flying with Kaoru is something he's enjoyed every time it happened, so instead of panicking, Izuku just laughs as he holds onto her and lets this happen.]

We couldn't just walk? [He's getting a hang of the teasing thing now, please be proud of him, Kaoru.] What did you need help with anyway?

[Shiho should know better than to challenge her.

But also like, she's sure they'll thank her later. So the mistletoe doesn't go away. In fact, it hovers closer just to make sure they know this is not some random lost mistletoe: it's for them.

Kaoru is careful to keep it out of arms' reach of Shiho though because she knows better.]

[Minato would possibly know Kaoru is capable of this, but he has no idea she ended up with a box of mistletoe. So to him, this is the town being weird--

And, well.

He finds he...doesn't exactly mind it. Minato stares at the mistletoe for a moment longer, and then he clears his throat, flushing a little despite himself.

He kind of wants to. And more than anything, he thinks he'd...like to obey the mistletoe tradition and kiss her. Shiho kissed him before, but it had been to save him, right? He hadn't gotten to really enjoy it, considering he had been freezing over at the time, but now that he thinks about it, would it really be so bad to--

... He pauses, and then he stops, reaching out with his free hand to very gently cup her cheek. There's a faint flush to his face, but otherwise he's very firm.]

... I think... I'd like to. But only if you want to too, Shiho-chan.

[He doesn't want to push her into this, that's for sure--but he can feel in his own thrumming heart that right now, this is exactly what he would like to do.]

[Shiho could still shoot the mistletoe out of the air. In fact, she should shoot it out of the air and that's the last thought she has before he clears his throat and she's turning back to look at him again.

He's blushing and as if in response she can feel her own face flushing too. Sure, she had kissed him once before already but in the same way that her first kiss being stolen by an old woman meant it automatically didn't count... kissing someone to save their life also should not count as a proper kiss. For one, no one was trying to save anyone else right now. If they kissed now, it would be because they wanted to and she can feel her stomach do an anticipatory flip-flop at the thought.

Is his hand warm or has her face just gotten redder? It's probably a little bit of both and her eyes flick away for a second before she's turning them right back to look at him. If... If he wasn't hesitating... it would be okay if she didn't hesitate either, right? She could want to kiss him too. She did. Taking a deep breath which does absolutely nothing to stop her heart from racing a mile a minute, one of her hands comes up to rest on his chest.]

...I want to.

[She's flushed red as well, and there's a brief moment where he's worried he's pushed her too far, and made her uncomfortable--

But she takes a deep breath, and rests a hand on his chest, and Minato spares a moment's thought as well for the worry that she'll be able to fear just how fast his heart is beating that way...

But she says she wants to.

And that means... there's no reason to hesitate anymore, right? It's okay to follow his instincts, to take the excuse that's given to him with that mysteriously convenient mistletoe, and...

(She's really, really cute, looking up at him like that, a bright blush on her face but nonetheless that familiar determination he's so used to from her in every line of her face, and any reasons why he shouldn't be doing this fly right out the window.)

He doesn't think. He just runs his thumb over her cheekbone, an affectionate gesture with a smile on his face, and finally leans in to very gently press his lips to hers.]

[ Has... Has no one pointed out how bad an idea that is... Seriously... ]

I hardly think candles on a tree would be a safe option. Wood is a highly flammable material, you see.

[ It's not anything unusual to walk around with Damian (a thought Kisa will revise once ghosts happen but thankfully this is pre-ghosts). And it's more that she's run into him during a wandering spree. Nothing strange about that either.

No, what the strange thing is... is that there seems to be a floating plant determined to follow them, and she's starting to get confused. ]

... What... is this?

[Akira has flown with Kaoru before, so he isn't too surprised when he starts to rise off the ground.

But then they go higher... and higher... with no real sign of stopping...]

Uh, Kaoru...?

[Are they going to the top??]

[Shiho can't hear how fast his heart is beating but she can definitely see it with psychometry. She wants to tell him not to worry, that the last thing anyone could do was push her into something she didn't want with someone she didn't like.

But there's so much to process already from the beat of his heart to him thinking she's cute, that smile of his that she's always been weak to, the stroke of his thumb on her cheek. No one (who isn't family) has ever looked at her with so much fondness and her mind is a blank.

Long ago, Fujiko had given all three of them tips for kissing. She can't remember any of them as he leans in, her eyes fluttering closed and the world at large so still and quiet. It's nothing like the kiss she'd given him in the ice castle. This time he's dizzyingly warm and she isn't thinking at all as she reaches out with her other hand, fingertips resting against his jaw.]

[It's really almost crazy, he can't help but think, that it took him this long to realize just how deeply he feels about all of this--and about her. Was this a willful attempt to try to not think too hard about just how deep he'd end up falling for her...?

It's impossible to fight it now, that's for sure, with the gentle warmth of her lips against his, and the light, pleasant pressure of her fingertips on his jaw.

He lingers. He can't help himself; he's weak, to her and to this and for the moment, it feels like everything pauses just for this--

... And then it kind of sinks in. They're in the middle of Chroma, he's kissing Shiho slowly beneath the mistletoe and as much as he's enjoying this, this is... probably not the time or place. (And yet, it's so hard to pull back.)

Slowly, even so, he does, clearing his throat slowly as he straightens, looking at her with a gaze that's both a little sheepish and thoroughly fond. Somehow, he seems to be having some trouble forming words.]

[The top needs to be decorated too!]

Isn't this cool? It took me a while to find this tree!

[Instead of being worried you should praise her for her efforts!]

but then how do we make the tree light up? what did they use before they invented christmas lights?

[Because this is also your responsibility now.]

[She is very proud!] Why walk when we can fly? [And no friend of her is going to have to walk.] I wanted to set up a huge Christmas tree in town! But the shape is weird and I'm not sure how to carry it by myself!

Good point. [Can he even blame her? Not really, when flying is so fun.]

The...shape is weird. [He glances up at her, curious. It's just a tree, isn't it?] What do you mean?

[It’s a wonder, she thinks, that more people with ESP aren’t complete egomaniacs. His thoughts of her are just so gentle, so fond, and so irresistibly sweet. But then again... how many espers kissed people that understood who they were and accepted it without question? Who would tell them that everything they are and can do is amazing?

Shiho doesn’t put up any kind of resistance to it and if he’s weak she knows that she’s at least two times weaker than that as she simply allows herself to enjoy how close he is, to enjoy being able to express herself in a way that needed no words and no powers to transmit her thoughts.

She realizes they’re in the middle of town, kissing in plain view of just about anyone at the exact moment he does, entangled as her own thoughts are with his in her mind thanks to the psychometry and she flushes red even before he pulls away entirely. And she knows when their lips part that given the chance she’d kiss him again without any hesitation and that thought knits her expression into something embarrassed and soft and affectionate all at once. When did he become so dear to her? She couldn’t even name the exact moment, the exact second because there were so many all piled together and there’s so much she could say and what feels like too little time to tell it all.

That and maybe confessing in the middle of Chroma had the potential for so much embarrassment if someone else hears what she intends to tell him. Kaoru is probably still hiding somewhere around here too and had to be made sorry for this. But for now... for now she lingers too, the fingertips at his jaw brushing delicately against his skin as she pulls away because she can’t help herself. The other hand is still at his chest as she opens her mouth.]

U-Um.... I-I guess we... that... [She failed. Someone come help her.]

[Oh. Uh. This is great. At first, Damian is also confused. Not by the plant but by the fact it’s floating and following them. He knows what it is almost immediately, but saying so is embarrassing because of the tradition. Hm, bad.]

A toxic parasite.

[He sees you, mistletoe. He isn’t afraid to call it like it is. Which is more than he can do currently. It’s too high up for him to swat it out of the air.] Let’s keep going.
