Event Thirteen.

The cracks of paint and varnish on the brow; Soon to distrust all impulses of flesh That strews its sawdust on the chamber floor, While at the window peer two crones Who once were Juliet and Jessica. | |
Welcome to Awash's thirteenth event log, everyone! Further information on this event can be found here at the OOC post. Please keep in mind that while this is a general event log, it is also an intro log; be sure to pay plenty of attention to our newcomers! |

No. No, that's not an option. Even if this isn't his post, it's obstruction. She knows that. She of all people would know that. ]
...
[ But this isn't Demacia; and there are clearly others who are much more capable than she is. She's seen it herself. In an absolute worst case scenario, she could argue for leniency of punishment.
The mirror stays quiet as she deliberates, a rare blessing. ]
Out in the open like this... yes.
no subject
I can take you somewhere else.
[His immediate plan is to take her to the town hall. It isn't far away, and it makes as much sense as anything.]
no subject
[ Lux takes a short, sharp breath, doing her best to not listen to the mirror's harping. She nods slowly, a resigned sort of smile beginning to pull at her lips. ]
...I'll follow you, then. Lead the way.
no subject
Don't worry. I'm only authorized to detain other androids.
[Hopefully that will put her at ease. He's not permitted to interfere with non-androids unless ordered to directly by a superior.
The town hall is just ahead! And it's colored now, so that's nice.]
no subject
The silence is deafening, and even if they're almost at their destination, she can't let it hang heavy in the air. ]
What sort of crimes would you detain them for? Was it common for them to break the law?
no subject
[Murder, theft, sometimes arson or kidnapping... certainly the destruction of property. These are some of the things he's hunted deviants for.]
They can become violent if they feel threatened, so it's important to find them quickly.
no subject
That reminds me of where I'm from. The law there is absolute, and there is little room for deviancy.
[ There is no affection in her voice as she speaks. ]
But it's rare to see the people become violent. Most simply follow the laws as written. I hadn't realized that there were other worlds that follow the same creed.
[ She doesn't like it. She doesn't like it at all. ]
no subject
Isn't it normal for places to have laws and social rules? I admit, I have a hard time picturing one that doesn't.
[Of course, humans break the law all the time. That's why police officers are necessary.]
In the case of androids, we can't make the choice to break the law. We can only follow our programming and the orders given to us.
[In theory.]
Thanks DW for leaving absolutely no good icons for this orz
Yes, but there are times when the law ends up hurting someone who is innocent. [ She pauses, drawing her lips together. ] I've seen it happen. Following the word of law without question, refusing to see both sides... isn't always the right answer.
[ This isn't the reason she asked to talk elsewhere, which is why she looks up at Connor with a frayed smile. ]
That's what I think, at least. But unsurprisingly, it's not a popular opinion where I'm from.
it does that
I guess that's why they have judges and legislatures to change the law. [At least on his world. Maybe hers is more strict.]
Is that why you're hunted? For opposing the law?
no subject
If by opposing the law you mean simply existing... yes. That's one way you could look at it.
[ Although being asked to explain it in such a pedantic way makes it easier, somehow. ]
I am what is called a mage—someone who is able to use magic. I understand that something like this doesn't exist in some worlds; but where I am from, being able to use magic is... [ Lux pauses, choosing her words carefully. ] Being able to use magic means that you are considered a threat to the people. Those who are believed to be mages might be stripped of their status in society, or exiled. Or... in some cases, sentenced to death. It doesn't matter whether or not you use it for good or for ill, the law is absolute.
no subject
[So this is oppression based on a coincidence of birth. Connor's familiar with that from his knowledge of human history. The America he hails from has made significant strides in recognizing rights for all humans regardless of their individual traits, but other places even in his world are not so far along. It's not surprising to him that other worlds would be that way, too.
Although he's not sure why magic would be the target.]
Is it because some mages are dangerous, if they do use their powers for ill?
no subject
Most do, as I've been told. I'm not sure that I believe it myself, but I've seen the effects of dark magic on others. It's... It's not a pretty sight.
no subject
It sounds a little like when an android goes deviant. It's becoming more and more common for them to murder their owners.
[Which is part of why they must be caught and dismantled.]
But androids are only machines. You're alive. Where I'm from, what you're talking about wouldn't be allowed. [In theory, anyway.]
