t's a regular morning here in the Town. The sun isn't shining at all, snow is falling like crazy, and...there may be the sounds of shouts coming from the well, thoroughly muffled. Okay, so it's not a regular morning at all, but you'd better go help those people! The newcomers are here again. Of course, once you get to the well, you'll notice that there's actually no real help you can offer -- it's totally frozen over. As for the newcomers, well... hopefully being suddenly dumped into freezing cold water in the middle of November in a dark, damp well is your idea of a good time, because that's your life now! And that's not even taking into account the mirrors in everyone's homes that are about to wake up and start chattering... Welcome to Awash's thirteenth event log, everyone! [She waves, signaling him to follow her as she walks.]

I am the daughter of a duke, although not a highly-ranked one. But I was raised alongside royalty, as my best friend is the princess of our land.

His first thought, as a thief, is to quickly analyze her from head-to-toe. What's on her that could be valuable, maybe of personal use to him, but there's nothing very eye catching. ] Is your friend here?

No, I'm the only one from my realm here. That's another thing you'll discover here... Everyone you'll meet here is from another world, often very different from yours.

So whoever brought us here just happened to choose us.

[ That's a really shitty decision. ]

You haven't happened to come across a guy named Touma, have you? This high -- [ He demonstrates the hight with a wave of his hand. ] -- dark hair, blunt fringe and probably just as roughed up as I am.

[She shakes her head.]

I'm afraid not, but I'll keep an eye out for your companion. They might even show up with the next batch of newcomers, it's not impossible.

[flinty]

That'd be helpful.

[ It's not unsettling. It's not like he's never been separated from Touma before, but it is an inconvenience to be split up when there's more than enough work to be done back home. ]

So people are brought here regularly?

About every two months, if my math is correct. They all end up inside the well, needing to be brought up... but the ice was a new one.

And you guys always manage to never see who's droppin' all these people off?

[troubadamsel]

Not once. It may be a more magical influence, you see.

[flinty]

So would you call those people who brought us here a god?

[troubadamsel]

... I try not to think that way... but, unfortunately, I can't really say it's impossible either.

[flinty]

Well it ain't too far off, considerin' they can just sneak people from their worlds and into this empty space...

But from what I've learned every god's got a weakness.

... Are you saying you've fought gods?

[flinty]

And if these guys are anything like them then I can definitely take them.

So that means y'all don't have a problem with teaming up with anyone?

We're in no position to have high standards. But it's not as if we have common criminals and murderers dragged here with us.

[flinty]

[ Stares in convicted criminal on death row for pillaging villages and murder. ]

Yeah? [ He forces a smile. ] Well that's just great, this place already sounds a hell of a lot safer than any place I've been.
