[A sphinx, huh? He's had experiences with sphinxes, and while it initially makes him think of Annabeth he doesn't dwell on that for long. He thinks about sphinxes and he thinks about sphinxes having answers. He thinks about Annabeth who's been gone for months and he thinks about Sadie who's gone missing.

And his thoughts naturally turn to Nico and he messages the boy to meet him out at the forest. He doesn't tell him why and he doesn't think he has to explain.

He can only hope that Nico actually shows up, and it's why he's leaning against one of the most outward trees, keeping his eyes on Flavo to wait for Nico to arrive.]

[ If Nico can reluctantly stand to be around Percy after the death of Bianca, then there's no way he could actually turn away when they're in pretty good standing. So when the other calls him out, he goes. As is typical in Chroma, he comes armed.

Also eating what could potentially be the last of his breakfast. As Percy predicts, he comes from Flavo now that he's completely moved in with Sasuke. He never met his previous housemate and both of them seemed to have the places to themselves, it just didn't make sense to have two whole houses.

Nico finishes up his breakfast and stops in front of the other demigod. ] So why did you call me out at this ungodly hour, Jackson?

[ ... It's like noon, Nico. ]

[He's pretty much raring to go and he's not going to bother telling Nico that he lives alone now and it was easier to work on his own schedule. It's a lot of pent-up energy and something that screams "FAMILIAR" in his head. Nico stops though and Percy just raises an eyebrow.]

The sun's been up for a couple of hours, you know. [Just saying.] How do you feel about sphinx-hunting?

[...this is a really bad idea, but Percy's usually full of those and he often times can find people to stop him. It's a shame that he's decided to go to Val instead. He has a feeling that maybe he shouldn't ask this of him, but he's also, perhaps, seeking some sort of advice and opinion on what might come from this quest.

It takes some time to find the vampire, but upon locating him Percy lifts a hand to wave, stopping the two of them in their tracks.]

Hey. Are you busy right now?

[Let's be very honest about this, Val has little to no common sense. He's never really had to bother with things that most people do.

He looks carefully at Percy for a moment.]

I'm free. What is it? You seem worried.

[Glad we have two people with little sense of self-preservation here.]

It's not that. [He would always deny being worried in this case though.] Question for you. Have you read this month's round of quests yet?

[This is so cursed.]

Yes. Zelda gave me a sardine toy.

[He sounds so touched, honestly. And he fishes it out of his pocket. It's just a stuffed toy that fits in his hands but he loves this thing.]

With how worried you look... are you thinking about the taking color quest?

I'm not worried. [If he says it out loud maybe it'll be true.] But yeah. That's what I'm thinking of. How'd you guess?

[...but there's a toy sardine, and:] That's...kind of cute.

If you say so. [... Val believes it, anyway. If he says it, it must be true.]

The look you had on your face didn't make sense for any of the others. Did you want to try taking some of my color?

[Okay, it's very cute, excuse him. He gives Val a thoughtful look though before he sort of shrugs.]

That's sort of a dangerous thing to offer, don't you think? [But he's also not saying no, so.]

There's nothing to be gained from safety. If you wish to do it, I'm a willing subject.

[So he's really just offering himself up to be color drained.]

[Val ffs. But on the other hand, Percy can't exactly deny a willing subject.]

I'd like to see what happens, yeah. You remember last month when we gave to the well? We were able to restore color to some stuff. I'm wondering what'll happen when we take stuff away.

[He'll pull off the glove on his right hand, and offers it up.]

Maybe it'll make you stronger. Vampires stay strong by drinking human blood. The rules of Chroma may mean that you'll gain power by draining color.

Nevertheless, we should try it and see the results for ourselves.

Val, I don't know if I want to be stronger. [Just. Flat out. He's already experienced a handful of times where his powers got away from him. He's not sure he wants to see that again.

Nevertheless, he's still staring at Val's hand for a moment because he knows he's right. They have to try it and see the results. He lingers for a few moments before he grips the offered hand.]

...how do you think we can take color? [He has ideas, but he's also curious.]

[He raises an eyebrow, because that's. Weird.] A bad experience before? Did you have trouble controlling yourself?

[There's a soft, thoughtful hum.] Don't drain too much.

Drink my blood. [No, that can't be right.] No, you're not a vampire.

Some amount of contact is likely necessary. So take my hand and think about taking my color.

[What if he just ignores that for now :)? He waves it off and seems to be staring at their hands...until Val says that and he jerks his head up.]

Dude. No. [There will be no blood-drinking here. As it is though he nods along. Concentrating should work. He's done that before. He's tried to drain people of liquids inside their bodies, used their own elements against them...

...it's an uncomfortable thought, but it's worth a try. He concentrates, focuses on the goal at hand and holding Val's hand to try and draw color away from him. Siphoning. It's just like siphoning.]

[It's not like Percy's made any promises against drinking blood. He could drink it if he really wanted. (He probably wouldn't. It's coppery and gross.)

Val's advice does seem to work. His color is draining... fast. Very quickly. The red of his eyes is quickly dulling down to an off gray. There's not that much color in his skin either, but that goes dull just as fast.]

[It happens quickly, but most things do these days. It happens and there's a sudden warmth running through his veins as he watches the color deplete from Val's skin and he stands up a little taller. This is a familiar feeling, he thinks, and he doesn't quite associate it with stealing Val's color yet.

He's already powerful on his own. It's the same effect as healing with water, feeling revitalized and stronger and his grip on Val's hand is a little tighter. He thinks he's in control here, but the color continues to fade away...oops.]

You don't have very much, do you? [It's a thoughtful statement, but he still doesn't let go.]

[He's graying out... quickly. Faster than he was expecting, but it's fine, isn't it? He'll deal with it. Actually, strangely... he doesn't seem to mind. Or care that much. Maybe he should, but caring feels beyond him at the moment.]

I have some red.

[Just a bit of red in the screws that are in his body. The rest of him is quite pale- so it wasn't going to take much to make him gray.]

[He should maybe stop before he kills him? But it's a nice little rush, and he's watching the red fade slower than the rest.]

Some. Vampires don't have a lot beyond that, huh?

Why would we?

[Val isn't complaining, at least. But again, as the color drains, so do his cares. He should be worried, but he's not. It doesn't really matter, after all.]

I don't know. I haven't met a lot of vampires, remember? [Even the tone of his voice has shifted to something more casual and relaxed. Lackadaisical, almost. He continues the drain before realizing the screws are almost missing their color.

It's about then he realizes what he's doing and he lets go of Val's hand.]

[Val... seems not entirely there at the moment, taking his hand back and slipping it back into his glove.]

How are you feeling?

[He sounds far away. Much less concerned than he would usually be.]

[There's a slightly manic look in Percy's eyes which is probably a good indicator why he tries not to let power consume him.]

Better. [He flexes his hands a little.] A lot more energized than before. That's a good thing, isn't it?
