[Once Reim's bizarre one-night illness passes (thanks Sierra), he can't help but wonder - is this happening to other people? There aren't many people in the town he feels a pressing need to check up on, fortunately - but there are some, and thankfully two of them live in the same house and he already knows where it is!!
So it's very easy to show up without messaging in advance, which would have been polite, but he was already in the area and it's a long walk back to his empty Ruga house just to log into the network and walk back. He's already here, knocking, and ready to live his best busybody life as soon as Toshinori opens the door—]
Ah- good morning. I was in the neighborhood, so I thought I'd stop by and see how things are going.
[Mercifully, he is not here to stare anyone down until they Give Him The Name, but give that time.]
[Reim's concern is perhaps validated when there's a bad cough from behind the door, and Toshinori answers, looking only marginally better than death warmed over. He'd contracted a mysterious illness yesterday himself and had, reluctantly, made himself housebound for the day in case it was contagious. Yet his condition has only worsened when he woke up this morning, even if he stubbornly doesn't want to acknowledge it.]
Oh... Good morning, Reim. Now's not really a good time-- maybe you can come back another day?
[He's... he's already trying to close the door, but he also doesn't want to be rude, so he doesn't close it all the way. pls take the hint and leave]
[You know, for all that Toshinori usually looks... a little under the weather, no offense, it is remarkable just how far the capacity to look like hell really goes. Reim hears coughing and sees his appearance and, well, having a door shut in his face is the opposite of what should be happening next.
He doesn't, like, shoulder past and barge his way in or anything— just a hand on the door, gently keeping it open so he can fix Toshinori with a look. He has seen the hint, yes, and thrown it right out.]
Do you have tea? [there's like, one kind of tea in this town--] Let me make you some tea, at least.
[Toshinori just gives him a long, tired look. Then, deciding this isn't an argument he wants to have today, he steps aside to let him in with a quiet sigh.]
Yeah, I have some. Help yourself...? [Might as well offer, even if Reim already seems to have already made that decision for him.]
[Just go with the flow, Toshinori. Reim has the decency to give him an apologetic little smile as he steps inside. They are going to Have Tea and it's going to be just fine and normal.]
If you don't mind my saying so, you don't look well.
[Toshinori coughs again and leads him into the kitchen to fetch the tea and cups, as well as a pot for boiling water. He's barely able to suppress the shake in his hands as he does so.]
I hear that a lot. [Time to deflect a little with a self-deprecating joke!! He always looks ill.] I've felt under the weather for the past day or so, but it's nothing serious.
[Here's Reim, wandering at the very edge of the forest, not daring to sneak in on his own. He's not a fool; he knows he won't make it out alive if he's by himself, he can't fight at all, it would be terrible! But, well. Of course, if there's supposedly a sphinx in there, he wants to know what the purpose of that is...
Anyway, while he paces back and forth, he appears to be squinting down at animal footprints - something that is totally unproductive, because-]
...I have no idea what animal this could be.
[There's a decent chance it's very obviously Not a Sphinx Track, but he's clearly a fancy rich boy not built to run around in nature, so what does he know.]
[Izuku hunches down to squint at the tracks in question along with him.] ... a mutated sheep? It looks like the tracks the invisible ones left behind.
[And speaking of writing everything down, Izuku reaches into his pack to draw his notebook out now. There's a pause as he flips through it and finds the notes he'd written on the sphinx earlier.]
Let's see... if sphinxes have the body of a lion, then their tracks probably look like a cat's, except much bigger. [Quickly, Izuku sketches it out on the paper.] Something like this?
You're trusting that I've seen a lion in person before... [But if cats are good enough, sure. He peers over at the sketch and nods, more because he agrees that is cat-like than he's, you know, good at tracking animals. Yyyes?] That would be my best guess.
Second, and I can't believe I'm getting to this second, the invisible sheep?
Let's keep looking! [His enthusiasm will not be contained, now that they have more of an idea what they're looking for.]
Oh yeah, the invisible sheep! They were kind of cute... um, at least I'm guessing they were, since you can't actually see them. The ones my friend and I found were really friendly.
The quest said so! And they seemed a lot like sheep, just a little different in the way that a lot of Chroma animals are. Some of them had more legs, some of them had extra horns or wings. That kind of thing.
[For all that he's happy to chatter on about the cute invisible sheep, Izuku is actually scanning the ground for more tracks while they trek deeper into the forest.]
[It's Several Days Later, and Reim is still in the Ari Might household, and the reason for it is anybody's guess. His own house is empty and living alone for just a few weeks is enough to make him stir crazy, maybe, or the combined efforts of Ari and Toshinori being too... Well, at least one of them has demonstrated he needs someone to stare him down until he does basic self-care. And Ari probably needs someone to smack his hand and tell him "no," if something like more shadow demons or whatever come for him—
Anyway, Reim is just still very much around, and while he is not overbearing, he definitely takes it upon himself to make his presence known by doing a ton of chores nobody asked him to do, starting very early in the morning. Possibly unreasonably early. Who can say.
Currently, he is dusting every available surface in the living room. Everything. All things. It is very early. Good morning?]
[ To be fair, Reim isn't wrong. Ari absolutely needs someone to smack his hand and tell him "no" before he gets enslaved by some dubious evil entity again.
It takes a few days for it to occur to Ari that Reim's visit... never ended? Technically? Ari doesn't mind, per se, since he likes Reim, but it seems like the sort of thing he should at least bring up at some point.
When he comes down in the morning, fiddling with his headband to cover up his relative bedhead, and finds Reim already there, it reminds him that now would probably be a good time to do so. ]
[Yes, this is definitely a thing that should be addressed, probably, for propriety's sake. Toshinori seems resigned to it now, which is not the best look for any of them, but Reim isn't trying to corner anyone into a conversation they don't yet want to have.
Also, he keeps things neat and tidy, so at least he's pleasant to have around. Credit where credit is due? He looks up from his dusting when Ari comes in, fixing him with a polite smile.]
Ah— good morning! Don't let me get in your way! [CARRY ON...]
[ Reim is perfectly capable of finishing this task himself, as he's proven multiple times over the past few days, but Ari offers anyway because he's just that kind of person. A nice boy.
It's not really his style to jump right in with "So when are you leaving, anyway?" ]
[ But it would be rude just to walk away without at least offering... ]
> "You've helped a lot."
[ Ari is genuinely grateful that Reim stopped by to help out when Toshinori mysteriously fell ill. Ari doesn't have much experience taking care of other people, especially sick people, so with Reim here Ari felt like it would all definitely turn out okay. ]
> "Have you been sleeping on the couch? That can't be good for your back."
[It is once again Several Days Later, presumably after it's been quietly assumed that Reim is just here now, in this house for keeps. It's fine. He'll still spend most of his time making powerpoint presentations that aren't really for anything, but eventually he'll take a break from that to browse the network again...
[Toshinori is in the middle of cleaning the sink when Reim shoots him that question. He's still getting used to sharing a house with others, and while Ari was easy to ignore by himself, three's -- well, a crowd. He can't help but feel irrationally tense with people in his space. Or maybe it's just Reim? The way he worries about him reminds him of someone he'd done his best to avoid for the past half a decade.
Either way, since Reim seems to have decided he just kind exists here, now, there's not much to be done about it. So he dries his hands and turns to consider the question.]
I know about tracking, yeah. [Villains, not animals, but details.] What are you looking for?
[The less anyone talks about his continued presence here, the less he has to acknowledge that maybe this is a little intrusive. It's definitely intrusive, but look, somebody ought to do it. Reim's fatal flaw is perhaps assuming that something always can and should be done for somebody else, but never mind all that now, that isn't a mid-afternoon, interupting chores to ask conversation.
So! Animal tracking!]
Something that shouldn't be real but probably is, given where we are. You've heard of the sphinx?
[He moves over to peek over Reim's shoulder at the quest offering.]
If you're thinking of going after one, it might be dangerous. In my world, the Egyptian sphinx was like a guardian creature to shrines and tombs. To the Greeks, it was dangerous, and forced travellers to answer riddles before they could pass. If they failed, it would kill them.
[Judging by his doubtful expression, it's obvious which variety Toshinori would put his money on. Of course, it could be neither, but who knows?]
