I. Bluo | Bat Fishing

[If anybody happens to be at the pier today, there's Valvatorez in what seems to be two additional capes. One orange, and one green with his own personal black cape underneath it. His attempt to fish like humans do landed him much bigger fish than he personally wanted.

So today he's shifting his form to many bats, and soaring over the water, grabbing whatever fish happen to be near the surface and depositing them into the ice house. He'll continue doing this for the rest of the day, unless somebody wants to talk to him.]

II. Well | Quest 31

[He's still dressed in three capes, the newest two still clash horribly.

He's definitely looking at something as he hovers around the well. Sure, he arrived with a crate of them, but that doesn't mean he wants to give them up. The sardines here are bizarre colors, and the ones he gets out of the ocean are strangely mutated.

At the same time though... the people in this town are technically his allies. He doubts they would be so willing to give things up to the well because of a quest.

If somebody is close by, he'll ask them.]

What do you think? Would it be worth it to sacrifice something precious?

III. Edge of the forest | Quest 29

[You know what the skeletons are really boring. He's out here smacking some of them with his sword and trying to get them to attack him better?] You're not putting any weight into your swings! Are you really trying to attack? Even a prinny would put up a better fight than you! Their aptitudes are awful!

[He just picks one up. It barely struggles in his grip- he throws it at another and they both seem to crumble.]

I was hoping you'd explode.

The strongest healing item is a sundae and the weakest is a stick of gum.

Oh c'mon, work with me here! At least spitball a theory or something. [ beat. ] Man, I should use that on the next test that comes up when I get back. "I dunno ma'am, I didn't make the universe."

Demons aren't human and too much sugar may eventually lead to type two diabetes in humans. It's possible we process the sugar differently than humans do. We don't have that many scientists in the Netherworld.

You should take your studies seriously, lad. You never know when they might come in handy.

[ he grins, obviously delighted. ] Now we're talking! See, I knew you had it in ya.

And for the record, that was pretty much the classic "thing that every adult tells you about school" answer. If it makes you feel better, I was just messing. [ mostly. he'd seriously consider actually using that as an answer for a hot minute if there was a question he was drawing a blank on. ] My moms would kill me if my grades started slipping.

I'm glad you have two parents in your life. I hope neither of them are mad scientists. I'm sure most humans know not to kill their young. [So that had to be some kind of hyperbole, right? Right.]

That would be a sick origin story, but nah, no mad scientists in Casa Mell, I promise. But no, they're honestly really great.

--So what I really wanted to ask was, are bats the only thing you can shapeshift into, or do you have like, a full polymorph thing going on?

I can turn into bats or a large bat-esque dragon.

Saying that I don't think he predicted that the hell bats would have mad pro fishing skills.

Fenrich is better at fishing in general, but he's a werewolf.

[ rock'n'roll is not Michael's usual jam at all, but he pulled a very memorable all-nighter once trying to determine the longest Meat Loaf song in existence. ]

Werewolves do have the whole claws and teeth thing going for them! [ he assumes?? the werewolf thing is probably pretty uniform between universes... ] But I mean, I just watched you carry off like, a marathon-level amount of fish, it's not like you're that much of a slouch. So uh, does your world have vampires as well, then?

[He looks blindsided by this question. Take a good long look at Valvatorez, Michael. This vampire is rocking vampire chic. What kind of person would go all in on vampire outfits without being an actual vampire.]

[As he talks his small fangs are exposed.]

[ wwaaaaaait a second-- ]

Wha? I thought you were a demon?

[ a demon with a vampire aesthetic going on! Valvatorez comes from a place where places are called Evil Academy totally legitly, it coulda just been an evil fashion trend! ]

[...???? Did he not say both? He should keep saying both.]

I'm both. I'm a demon vampire.

Oh, well that clears that up. [ obviously!! ] Wait, no it doesn't, I mean, how does that even work? Do you have to get bit by another vampire to become a demon vampire or is that just how it works for humans?

[ these are very pressing questions!! as illustrated by the sheer amount of gesturing he's doing. ]

What? No. Vampires don't work like that at all.

[How many times does he have to hear this nonsense? He keeps his gaze as steady as it ever is.]

I was born a vampire, Fenrich was born a werewolf. That's how it works.

Hey, maybe in your world it does. You literally can't take anything for granted here. [ he drums his fingers on his thigh for a sec, thinking. ] Your way sounds like it works better than all the stories, though. Less supernatural plague haunting the night and effing things up for everyone.

The other two vampires deal with what you're talking about. [He doesn't like it and it shows.]

Oh. [ oh. ] Seriously? Yikes. That's... rough.

[ pause. he caught the dip in Val's mood, but at the same time... ]

How come it's different for them?

It seems to be the way vampirism works where they come from.

They never would've been vampires if they were from my world.
