ONE.
[Though Izuku's been in Chroma for months already, he's never really gotten out of the habit of rising early to start the day. Usually, that means training of some kind out by the forest.
This time, Izuku's hung up a few wooden targets in the trees, while he stands some distance away from them, sparking with his quirk's energy. Every few minutes or so, he'll raise his hand and, bracing himself by gripping his right wrist with his left hand, flick a finger to launch a light wind pressure attack at the targets in succession. Though a couple of them hit, he ends up missing most of them, making him huff in frustration, shaking out his hand with a wince.
It's around then that Izuku turns and notices he has company.] Oh, hey! [The pained look quickly disappears, a sunny smile taking its place, like nothing was wrong.] I'm not in your way or anything, am I?
TWO.
[As much as Izuku likes to train, it's not exactly feasible to be doing that 24/7. (And he knows he'll get scolded if he tried.) So on some afternoons, Izuku can be found in the gardens, still slowly practicing his sewing.
Or rather, he should be practicing his sewing, but instead he's become distracted. Rather than working on his pet project, Izuku's grinning as a fluffy brown cat attempts to pounce on the string he's dragging through the grass or dangling in the air. The pile of fabric and other materials has been left off to the side, abandoned.
The cat, with its sharp hearing, of course, hears someone approaching before Izuku does. It perks its ears, turns and looks right at the approaching stranger. Izuku follows its gaze until he spots whoever's standing there. With a soft laugh, he holds out the string.] Want to join us?
THREE.
[Wildcard! If you'd like another prompt, just PM me and we can figure something out.]

no subject
[He barely glances at the two walking (rattling, really) toward him before he sends a burst of air pressure at them. The skeletons topple over, breaking apart as they hit the ground and stay down.]
Ah, are you teaching Asano-kun how to fight?
no subject
No, not at all. Actually, he was the one teaching me at the time- how to carve a pumpkin for this fall festival. However some skeletons wandered into us and, well, you know how easy they are to defeat. So just as Asano-dono was saying that even he might be able to do it, he happened to prove it.
no subject
That's right... I guess you wouldn't have heard of pumpkin carving or Halloween before. Good for him, though!
no subject
And yes, it is as you said. I have learned a lot about this 'Halloween' for the first time. If we have time after this expedition, perhaps you can tell me more about it, from your experiences.
no subject
[As if Izuku would ever pass up a chance to talk to Tonbokiri about stuff like this. He nods, eyes bright.]
Sure! We don't celebrate it in Japan as extensively as they do in America, but I've looked up all the American customs, too! [If only because his childhood hero had such a fascination with American things.]
no subject
Is that so? I would enjoy hearing about it.
As for Asano-dono, mm. I would say, he is entirely normal. However, in this place, where so many unusual people have gathered, and unusual things take place, being 'normal' might feel like a weakness. I hope that he can realize that there are still things only he can do, and that he has value being with us.
no subject
[He thinks he understands, though. When you're surrounded by people with quirks--for instance--when you don't have one yourself, it makes you look at yourself and wonder. Izuku nods slowly, turning his attention briefly away from Tonbokiri to take care of another few skeletons coming up on his side.]
Do you think he needs a boost or anything?
no subject
[He smiles kindly at the boy, barely even glancing to the side as he takes out another skeleton as well.]
Haha, he has some pride, though, so only if the opportunity presents itself.
[Pausing at the end of that thought, he tilts his head and looks around him fully.]
Midoriya-dono, other than the skeletons, have you seen anything else?
no subject
[Izuku tears his gaze away from the trees to look at Tonbokiri questioningly.]
You mean...right now? Just the skeletons so far, but there's more of them now, so we must be getting close.
no subject
I agree. But... Are there not usually more of those deformed animals about? [As he strides on, he raises a hand to his chin thoughtfully.]
Could it be they are becoming more wary of us, since we have been hunting the coloured ones for food?
no subject
[He's been paying so much attention to the skeletons that he'd completely missed a crucial detail like this.]
It could be the skeletons scaring them off? They're not threatening to us, but the animals might not know that.
no subject
[When Midoriya pauses, Tonbokiri stops walking for a moment as well.]
That could be true, too. And being unable to ask them, I suppose it will be impossible to know for certain. But ... it is eerily silent like this, isn't it. [Perhaps too quiet for it simply being that the animals have been scared off. But what is 'natural' in this place?]
no subject
[Ugh, now he's going to be really paranoid for the rest of the trip. For now, though, it looks like the worst they have to deal with is just the skeletons.]
There's a clearing up there. [Izuku pauses to knock out another skeleton or two.] It looks like the skeletons are coming from there, don't you think?
no subject
Let us investigate further.
[Increasing his pace slightly, he knocks over three skeletons on his way into the clearing.
He pauses at the threshold, somewhat surprised at what he sees. There is a graveyard. Although not in a Japanese style, it is easy to recognize as such. There are about a dozen graves...
... Or, 'were'? The ground before every marker is disturbed, as if it were dug up.]
What is this?
no subject
Or some of them, anyway. There's not enough graves here to account for all of them.
no subject
[Tonbokiri bows his head for a moment, murmuring a prayer for the dead as his master used to do.
When he lifts his head, he approaches one of the stones, but if there was ever anything written on it, it appears blank now.]
no subject
[Izuku bows his head, murmuring his own prayer before gently placing a hand on one of the headstones.]
This graveyard might've been part of the town once, too. They had to have buried their dead somewhere before everyone disappeared.
no subject
Taking in the rest of the clearing, he doesn't notice anything other than the dozen or so graves.]
Part of the town...
[There is something about what Midoriya-dono is saying... It takes him a moment of pondering to put it into words.]
If it were part of the town, would this graveyard not have been closer to it? We walked a long time to get here. To be blunt, it would be difficult to carry a body this far through the forest to bury it. ...But then, the forest is not normal now, either.
[That alone will put any theory on a weak foundation.
But, thinking that there must be other graveyards, Tonbokiri starts walking around the edge of the clearing, looking for a further path.]
no subject
As it is, there's no way we can tell who used this graveyard when all the buried have left, and the stones are too worn to read.
[Izuku lets his hand rest on the headstone for another moment before joining Tonbokiri.] What are you looking for, Tonbokiri-san?
no subject
When Midoriya-dono joins him, he points at the edge of the clearing that he is walking along.]
For a path to another clearing like this. There must be many more if the numbers of skeletons we have fought is to be believed. However...
[Midoriya can see for himself- the edge of the clearing is thick with brush, except for where they came from.]
It seems the forest is done with opening a path for us.
no subject
[Izuku turns back toward the graves, eyes narrowed.] I'd feel a little better knowing that this isn't where all the missing townspeople ended up, but it doesn't tell us anything in the long run.
Should we have another look around, in case we missed something?
no subject
[Tonbokiri slowly starts walking back towards the path they had come from, taking his time to look around the graves.
Getting to the other end of the clearing, he shakes his head.]
I am sorry, Midoriya-dono. I didn't notice anything else. How about you?
no subject
No... unfortunately, it looks like we won't find anything else here. [Though he's frowning at first, Izuku quickly shakes his head and places a comforting hand on Tonbokiri's shoulder.] Don't apologize. Following the skeletons was a good idea. I'm glad you let me come along, Tonbokiri-san.
no subject
Of course! You were a natural choice for this expedition. And although we didn't learn anything immediately useful, I am confident this will not have been in vain. Mm. [He nods in emphasis.] After all, if the forest didn't want us to see this, it could have easily hid it from us.
So, for now, let us return, and perhaps you would be so kind as to tell me more about this fall festival on the way?
no subject
I'd be happy to tell you about it. [At least someone's benefiting from all the hours he spent researching American traditions online!] What did you want to know?
