ONE.

[Though Izuku's been in Chroma for months already, he's never really gotten out of the habit of rising early to start the day. Usually, that means training of some kind out by the forest.

This time, Izuku's hung up a few wooden targets in the trees, while he stands some distance away from them, sparking with his quirk's energy. Every few minutes or so, he'll raise his hand and, bracing himself by gripping his right wrist with his left hand, flick a finger to launch a light wind pressure attack at the targets in succession. Though a couple of them hit, he ends up missing most of them, making him huff in frustration, shaking out his hand with a wince.

It's around then that Izuku turns and notices he has company.] Oh, hey! [The pained look quickly disappears, a sunny smile taking its place, like nothing was wrong.] I'm not in your way or anything, am I?

TWO.

[As much as Izuku likes to train, it's not exactly feasible to be doing that 24/7. (And he knows he'll get scolded if he tried.) So on some afternoons, Izuku can be found in the gardens, still slowly practicing his sewing.

Or rather, he should be practicing his sewing, but instead he's become distracted. Rather than working on his pet project, Izuku's grinning as a fluffy brown cat attempts to pounce on the string he's dragging through the grass or dangling in the air. The pile of fabric and other materials has been left off to the side, abandoned.

The cat, with its sharp hearing, of course, hears someone approaching before Izuku does. It perks its ears, turns and looks right at the approaching stranger. Izuku follows its gaze until he spots whoever's standing there. With a soft laugh, he holds out the string.] Want to join us?

[He huffs a laugh through his nose, running his fingers through Deku-cat's fur. He doesn't know his hero name, or even that it's a nickname Izuku was given, so he doesn't bat an eye at the name.]

Kind of? He's a stray that's followed me around a while, but he followed me here, so. I guess he's mine now.

[inheritance]

So... basically what happened to me.

[Izuku sounds amused.]

It's nice that he's here with you, though. That means he keeps you company, right? What's his name?

[nyahilistic]

[There's a slight grin on his face.]

Count yourself lucky to be loved by animals, I guess. Unless your allergic, in which case I'm very sorry. [He glances up, scrunching his face at the question.]

...ah, we called him ESP Kitty, 'cause he's kinda psychic, in a weird way.

[inheritance]

[There's a pause as Izuku lets that sink in.]

Wait... your cat's psychic? What can he do?

[nyahilistic]

[I'm so sorry for Osomatsu-san, Izuku. Ichimatsu's eyebrows knit together and he frowns, because this is so strange to explain.]

...if you talk to him, he tells the truth. [Which. Isn't a lie, but is sort of an abstract way of saying it. The whole thing is kind of a big sore spot for Ichimatsu, but he can't blame the cat.]

[inheritance]

That sounds cool! [His spike of enthusiasm fades when he catches the look on Ichimatsu's face.]

You don't look too happy about it, though. Did something happen?

[nyahilistic]

[His expression pinches.]

It's more of a hassle than it's worth. [That's the very abridged version.]

[inheritance]

[A soft laugh escapes him while he settles back down on the ground.]

I'm guessing there's a story here.

[Izuku's eyes glint with interest, even if he doesn't ask outright. What better time to talk, when they're both sitting here and relaxing with another cat, though?]

[nyahilistic]

[Izuku, you're lucky you're a real sweet kid that he doesn't figure is capable of ruthless backstabbing. Ichimatsu is not the type of guy to just talk, to anyone. He quirks his mouth and rolls his shoulders, focusing on Deku-cat for a moment.]

...kind of a long, really weird one, but. A story anyway.

[inheritance]

I think we've got the time for it. [With a grin, he gestures at his cat, who's still sucking up to Ichimatsu, purring and swishing his tail happily at the attention.]

Now that you've started playing with...Deku... you'll be stuck there for a while.

[nyahilistic]

[If he knew the strange double-entente that statement was, he'd probably be judging you a lot harder for it, Izuku. But he frowns at the cat and shrugs, because he knows how this goes. He can't turn away a cat that wants attention, and maybe Izuku is also a cat that wants attention. It can't hurt to be a little open with someone, can it?]

[He grumbles, shifting to lay on his side to better focus on Deku-cat rather than looking Izuku in the face even remotely. What is the easiest way to explain this...]

...so he wasn't... born, psychic, he was just a stray that hung out around the house and I fed a bunch of them. There's this crazy professor that lived down the road from us, tried to give me a shot so I could understand the feelings of animals... I hate needles, so I freaked out, cat took the shot for me. So now if you talk to him, and don't tell the truth, he tells the truth for you, instead.

[Which, given Ichimatsu doesn't like talking in the first place, much less honestly and/or about anything even remotely resembling feelings... Yeah. Not a great time.]

[inheritance]

[Ichimatsu, that's so concerning?? Izuku stares, mouth slightly open in surprise. That definitely wasn't the story he was expecting to hear, and he can't help but be worried, even if Ichimatsu looks perfectly fine.]

That's...I can't believe the professor tried to give you the shot without your permission! [The unhappy frown he's sporting now is a 180 from the friendly smiles from before.] Anything that could give powers like that is potentially dangerous. He could've hurt you.

[nyahilistic]

[He can't help it-- he laughs quietly at Izuku's concern, but not in an ugly way. He's pretty genuinely amused.]

My little brother tried to talk me into it, it's... There's more to it than just Dekapan being insane. Thanks for the concern, though, but it's okay.

[inheritance]

[The anger deflates; not completely, because it still sounds horrifying, but Ichimatsu laughter does calm him down.]

You and the cat were okay, though...right?

[nyahilistic]

[Izuku you're so pure. He huffs a chuckle through his nose and nods.]

Well we're both here, aren't we? He's around here somewhere, he likes to wander.

[inheritance]

I'm glad you're both safe, in the end. [That's the important part. Izuku's smile even begins to return now.] Even if your cat did end up with powers.

Ah, you should introduce us sometime!

[nyahilistic]

[Ichimatsu's smile is somewhat rueful, and crooked like his mouth tends to be.]

...Next time he's around and I see you, I'll bring him over. [But he'll probably not speak for the duration of the time, himself. He doesn't do honesty well.]

[inheritance]

I'll hold you to it, Matsuno-san! [Deku the cat chooses that moment to meow at Ichimatsu, like he's agreeing with his namesake.]

Ah, speaking of cats. [Now that his hands aren't occupied with playing with his cat, Izuku picks the fabric back up.] Know anyone who'd want a plush? It's one of my projects right now!

[nyahilistic]

[He scrunches his face only slightly, looking between Deku-cat and Izuku's fabric.]

...ah. Not sure why, but I didn't peg you as the sort for crafts. I don't really talk to many people, though...

[inheritance]

Ehe... you're actually not wrong. [He rubs the back of his neck, ruffling the hair there.]

I only started learning recently. The sewing helps me work on the dexterity in my fingers. [He holds up his right hand, with all the scars and crooked fingers.] If you can't think of anyone, maybe I can make one for you instead. Or your cat!

[nyahilistic]

[He scrunches his face at the mangled fingers, instead, leaning closer.]

How in the fuck did you do that to your hand? You're like, twelve. [Ichimatsu.]

[He recoils slightly at the offer, looking vaguely sheepish.] I mean, if you're gonna make it anyway, I don't mind? But I'm sure you could find somebody that'd... be more worthwhile to give something you put that much effort into?

[inheritance]

Sixteen. [Izuku looks amused as he corrects him.] This...is what happens when you don't know how to control your quirk. Whenever I tried using mine, I ended up breaking bones.

Hey. [Now Ichimatsu gets a raised eyebrow, and a slight frown.] Why would you say that? You seem pretty worthwhile to me.

[nyahilistic]

[He really just looks mortified, especially the longer he looks over the scars on his hand.]

I am going to put you in a giant hamster ball filled with polyfil.

[He has the grace to look chastised, but visibly folds into himself, hunching his shoulders up around his ears.]

...what is it with everybody here saying shit like that. [He's embarrassed. But... flattered, sort of? He's at least not arguing it, right yet. Maybe he has the sense to not try arguing with Izuku. Kid basically bleeds friendship.]

[inheritance]

A... giant hamster ball? [He's practically radiating confusion as he cocks his head to the side.] Why? Sounds like it'd be pretty hard to get anything done that way.

[Sorry, Ichimatsu, get used to hearing things like that! You're stuck with him now.] Maybe everyone says it because it's true. [Is he teasing him? Possibly, with the way he's smiling.]

[nyahilistic]

[Deadpan.] Pretty hard to fuck up your hand and arm like that, too.

[He scowls, but his ears have turned red.] ...you don't know what you're talking about.
