Event Eleven.

A grass-bank beyond, A blue sky of spring, White clouds on the wing; What a little thing To remember for years -- To remember with tears!" | |
Welcome to Awash's eleventh event log, everyone! Further information on this event can be found here at the OOC post. |

Yet this brief locking of eyes that revealed to Rin a brief glimpse into a world he didn't completely understand. The skyline didn't look all that different from his version of Tokyo, but it was clear that not everyone here was human.
Knowing that didn't make the jarring return to current time any less disorienting. To go from feeling nothing back to his own normal emotions was like being hit by a truck, and he stumbles back in order to find a solid place to sit down and put his head in his hands for a moment.]
What the hell was that... ?
no subject
Connor remembers most of it impassively as well - at a most technical level, he wasn't even there. The previous Connor model was destroyed, and he took his place. Honestly, the whole thing doesn't really matter, other than being one of the first big deviant incidents.
And it put heights near the top of his danger list. But that doesn't matter.
Once they're both back in the present, Connor approaches the young man, stopping to look over him. He doesn't seem injured or ill, so perhaps he's just shaken up.]
I'm sorry you saw that. It's a very violent memory of mine; not meant for the average viewer.
[At least he didn't see the bodies inside the apartment, too...]
no subject
It took him a beat to realize he was being spoken to, and his eventual reply came out a dry grumble.]
How the hell did you survive that... ?
[It still hadn't occurred to him that he was talking to someone who wasn't human.]
no subject
[Connor reaches up and taps at the circular LED on his temple. It's currently a solid, calming blue.]
I am an android, developed by a company called CyberLife. My predecessor was unfortunately destroyed in his fall from the roof. His memory was uploaded to a server at CyberLife, and was then downloaded to me. I remember everything he saw, but physically I am not him.
[So hopefully that satisfactorily answers Rin's question. This man is not human at all.]
no subject
[... oh.
Okay.
Rin certainly wasn't the sharpest tool in Chroma's shed, but he was capable enough to understand that he was essentially talking to something very technologically advanced. Androids weren't a reality where he was from but it was a possibility often talked about in the news and other places.
Of course all of this comes out in the most eloquent reply of:]
So you're like a talkin' computer.
no subject
...Yes. A computer that can walk and talk and perform other manual tasks. [He's much more than just a "talking computer," thank you very much!] I'm equipped with several other functions, as well. I'm one of the most advanced models of my time.
[Be impressed, Rin!]
no subject
Whoa... s-so there's more androids where you're from?
[Okay, yes, he's impressed. So much so that he actually forgets how dizzy and disoriented he felt a moment ago.]
no subject
[If that sounds like some kind of pre-scripted ad for CyberLife, it probably is.]
We also have androids in the military and most government agencies.
no subject
You... kinda sound like a product, not a person.
no subject
[So Rin can't buy him, if that's what he's wondering.]
no subject
Y-yeah, but you're still-- I mean you look--
[Human.]
no subject
[He can't actually feel anything... He's just a machine.]
no subject
That just seems kinda... I-I'unno, wrong? Like if you look and act and sound human then why are you being sold?
no subject
[This is simple to understand, isn't it?]
no subject
[He doesn't really have a smart rebuttal to that. It still seems sad and wrong to him, but he can't exactly argue with what is essentially a computer, a being that is vasty, vastly more intelligent than his dumb barely-passing-school brain.]
Erm. Does it... bother you? That the other... uh... you died? ... broke?
[Seriously, he his not a smart child.]
no subject
It concerns me that he made a number of mistakes that led to his unfortunate destruction. I've studied the series of events for better approaches that will not result in damage. But no, it does not bother me. He was only a machine.
[And a machine can't die.]
no subject
Dumb question was dumb, but Connor at least humored him with an answer.
Rin scratched at his slightly pointed ear, a faint movement of something black and fluffy behind his back.]
... sooooo like. What do you do then? If you're a... uhm. Product?
no subject
I assist detectives with their investigations. I can also perform hostage negotiation, which is what you saw there.
[Even if he didn't do very well that time.]
no subject
You're a cop? That's really cool! ... er, well, what I saw wasn't cool. But it looked like you saved that girl so that's good, right?
no subject
Yes, she was fine. [Well, at least physically - she saw that android murder her father and a few cops, but...] My mission was accomplished.
[There's a pause, while he cranes his neck a bit, and then...] I'm sorry, but what is that behind you?
no subject
Huh?
[Rin looks over his shoulder in brief surprise.]
Oh! I uh... forget people can see that here.
[He stands up, turning around so Connor can see the big fluffy tail attached to Rin's back.]
I'm uh. Not completely human.
no subject
[Why does he have... a tail? He said he's not human, so he's apparently not just a person who enjoys dressing up as animals as a recreational hobby.]
What are you, if you don't mind me asking?
no subject
Here, though. Well, no need to be so secretive in Chroma.]
Demon. Half, actually. My mom was human, but she passed away when I was born.
no subject
I'm sorry to hear about your mother. [Condolences are a thing you give to a statement like that, right? But he's more interested in the demon part.] But you're a demon? Like Mr. Valvatorez?
no subject
Not like I really knew her.
[Unlike Shiro, but... that's a story for another time. Maybe.]
Dunno who that is! There are other demons here?
