Church - During the day
[ with her posting up about spiritual guidance, zelda knows the church in flavo needs some touch-ups. when the sun is high (and when she isn't out doing a quest) zelda tends to the building interior. she sweeps the floors, wipes the dusty surfaces with a cloth, adds some restored colored flowers to the front and back in sad looking vases, and makes it feel more homely.

and if you deign to stop by, for whatever reason there may be, she may catch sight of you and wave a greeting. or you could approach her all the same.

also if you decide to be a cool guy and stand on top of the church (because apparently that's a thing now, thank you sasuke) expect her to yell at you from below to get off the holy building. ]

Church - During the evening
[ and when night falls, zelda spends most of her time inside. she writes in her journal, sews a sad looking monochrome cloak for the upcoming season, and prays at the front on her knees.

a few candles are all that light the dark interior, and they should shine through the church windows to show a sign of life at the late night. ]

I don't have a clue what we'll find... but I would like to see another settlement. Surely we are not alone in this realm.

The town has things that imply people lived there... But also there are no graveyards. Was the town only temporary? The state of the place leaves more questions than answers.

If we do find other people, I wonder if we'll be able to communicate.

I do hope. I've noticed that the town... it's odd, but I can understand what you're saying even though we certainly do not speak the same tongue.

[ the hylian language, and the other languages in hyrule, couldn't possibly be known by anyone here. yet she can understand everyone when they speak to her, despite surely not knowing theirs. ]

I know a few Earth languages, but you mistook me for your species.

...I mistook you because of your ears. [ she smiles, a little embarrassed now. ] Everyone here I've met has rounder ears.

Where I'm from, pointed ears like yours and mine denotes a demon. [ He can't really be insulted. ]

... Do you have demons where you're from? You said you had monsters. [ But that's not really the same thing. ]

Monsters are more commonplace, roaming the fields like they own the country! [ huff. ] True demons are rarer, most heralded from fable and ancient text.

[promissum]

That's what demons used to do a long time ago. [A deep disappointed sigh.]

Tell me more about your demons. I'm curious if there's any overlap.

Hm. I doubt it. You're much nicer than any demon I've read about for instance.

[promissum]

[There's a long pause of nothing but walking. He can't figure out if that's an insult or a compliment. But that's definitely a feeling of faint embarrassment.]

I told you my job wasn't to scare humans anymore.

[ in the silence, the path begins to prove far more than it first appeared. they hit a dead end and have to turn back to go find another path they passed before. and when he responds she makes a shrug. ]

Scaring people seems paltry. The demons of the stories in my realm are sinister things. Most of them all have served one - Ganondorf, the Demon King. A man said to have been born from an ancient evil's curse against the world.

[Strange. It seemed like a reasonable path before... then again, this forest is supposed to be a maze.]

I don't want to destroy the world. Most demons don't either. We don't have a king that oversees us all. While we have the President, if somebody beats him, they gain his position. [Which means, by technicality, Val is the President of the Netherworld, but he'd rather not.]

This man... he didn't start out as a demon?

[withwisdom]

Correct. Legends state he was the King of a barren desert wasteland. While neighboring lands prospered, his people were hungry and dying.

He wished to take control and restore his land to prosperity. To do so, he stole a fragment of the Ancient Goddesses gift to mortals, in the hopes that the power of a God could save his people. However it proved far too much for him to control. It corrupted him, and transformed him into a monster.

[ she smiles, feeling silly talking about Ganon like this. for so long he tormented her and now he's just a memory. something to speak of, not relive. ]

His story is a cautionary tale of how even the best intentions can turn evil.

Ah, yes. Greed and corruption. I'm well aware how one leads into the other. [Poorly. He's seen plenty of prinnies who stole constantly as humans. Not just to feed themselves, because they could. The only reason was for profit.]

It's good to have such stories. I believe that's what fairy tales are for as well. Things with morals.

The two are more blended together in my realm. Our legends are our fairytales, in a way.

[ nobody knows for sure how true any of them are. stories of the flooded world. of palaces in the skies above. the ruins of a kingdom in the embers of twilight. she believes in them all though. ]

...Hm. So this might sound odd, but do you get the feeling we're being... followed?

Two more demons, or two more legends?

[He pauses as he attempts to listen...Except the whispering is all he can hear.]

I mostly hear the whispering. I already know that's been following us this whole way.

[withwisdom]

There's a lot more than just two with respect to both. I should try to recall one for you some time.

[ she definitely has her personal favorites, with apologies to the other ancestors. ]

I mean, not just the whispering, but it feels more... I don't know. Unsettling. You don't feel any of that?

[ he's been so calm this entire time, she feels a little childish for getting worried over what's probably nothing. ]

[The thing about Val is that he's been the target of multiple assassination attempts and didn't even notice any of them. So danger or things watching him don't phase him like they probably should.]

... Should I?

[withwisdom]

I - I don't know!

[ she stops walking and sighs, frustrated. ]

It just feels like we've been walking a bit in circles. It's getting frustrating.

[He takes this moment to wonder if they actually have been walking in circles, but it's a maze. How would he check?]

Do you want to leave now, lass? Or do you want to continue?

This place is likely testing us.

...You think so? [ hm. ] I suppose that doesn't sound too out of the ordinary for this place.

[ and if it is a test... ]

If your theory is right, then I won't back down. So long as you wish to continue as well.

It's a strong possibility from what I hear of this forest.

[He does his cape flip.]

I promise you this, I will continue until the end of this maze. Nothing will make me turn back.

[ she reels back a little at the cape flip, not expecting it, but his enthusiasm brings a quick smile to her face. so this is just how he's always like? how fun, for a vampire especially. if only all dark beings were so good hearted. ]

[They wouldn't have quite so many problems to deal with if all demons were as honor bound as Val is. But he's a weirdo even in his own home world.]

[ and onward they go. and with determination and calm hearts, it isn't long before they finally reach another dead-end. this time however with a pond of water at the center. it vaguely reminds her of the fairy ponds that she read about once existing in hyrule. curious. ]
