Pushed his sister in a well. Mother said, while drawing water, "My, it's hard to raise a daughter." | |
Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. Hopefully they can get a hand out! For more information, please go here! |
someday i'll have more icon space & icons to not have 2 use the same five for every ghost expression
Arsène Lupin's scrutiny does not faze Ghost Quartz, as they're always thinking others are judging them in some form or another. Instead, it is his dull, powder-less skin that gives them pause. He is bare-faced to the world and yet, he lacks luster of any kind. The telltale shine of a Gem is absent even in his hair, in his eyes. It makes Ghost's 'skin' crawl for just a moment, and their body language shifts- meeker, as if they're trying to make themselves small and unassuming.
Cairngorm had told them about humans, and yet it had not prepared Ghost Quartz for this. Actually seeing one of these fleshy, fragile, mortal creatures. They were alien.
But they still had to be polite. ] ...I'm not looking for anything in particular. I'd like to see how the library in Chroma compares to ours. [ There's a strange shift in their expression. "Ours," they'd said. They meant "mine." ]
Thank you for taking me. [ They try their best to save face, at least. It is so much at once. ]
i'll forgive you
although this one seems very different from them. Makes sense - humans are all different, so why shouldn't gems be, too? Their shy demeanor is sort of charming, actually. He does his best not to overwhelm them, keeping a bit of distance and trying to look as reassuring as possible. ]
Please - no need to thank me. A gentleman always makes time for folks in need. This way.
[ Lupin beckons them along with him, trying all the while to guess what gem this one might be. Some kind of quartz, maybe? ]
Your library is probably better than this one. For some reason, all it has in it are fairy tales...
but can you really forgive me lupus aremusene
They seemed pretty intrigued at the mention of fairy-tales, but again they don't pursue it. ] Our library only had things like books on jellyfish rearing. [ Nothing fanciful, like fairy tales... They walk a little faster. ]

If jellyfish ever turn up around here, I guess we'll know who to turn to.
[ he's mostly joking. can you eat a jellyfish?? more importantly, would he? desperate times... regardless, he looks over at them. ]
Arsène Lupin, by the way - the pleasure is mine. You're a gem, aren't you?

introductions in general are a foreign concept- the gems typically don't meet new people for hundreds of years, and when they do there is always a chance its a gem of a previously existing type. cairngorm was much better suited to it, having been carted around in ghost's body until finally getting to be their own person- but ghost was definitely like the rest of gemkind in this respect. they repeat lupin's name to themself quietly, incorrectly. it helps normalize it somewhat. ]
Yes. [ he's familiar with them? that saves them some non-existent breath. ]
Ghost Quartz. The pleasure is yours.

[ a gem he hasn't heard of - or he hadn't until a few months ago. Lupin is an information sponge, and information from Cairngorm about their personal life and feelings, not often shared, isn't something he could forget. At once, his steps slow to a stop, and he gives them a long stare. He recalls that conversation in an instant: the "other personality" that had shared a body with them and been in control for almost their entire life. But according to them, Ghost had been destroyed a hundred years ago.
And according to them, Ghost had called them a "black thing" and not even given them a real name. Now, it's not his style to judge someone before meeting them, outside of extreme circumstances - but there is a very slight hardening in his gaze. This relationship between them is complicated, and he won't pretend to understand it, but he can't help but feel slightly defensive of his friend. He manages to keep that out of his voice, though, continuing in the same light tone. ]
... The one who shared a body with Cairngorm? They mentioned you before, but they said you were chipped off.

The translucent Gem nods and keeps walking. Ghost has never been one to challenge others. ]
That's right.

[ how are they here, if they are that same Ghost? Lupin is well aware that the dead can walk here; it's happened multiple times, including once to Akira (to his dismay.) He supposes he'd assumed it wouldn't work that way for the gems. According to Cairn, they didn't "die;" they were simply broken down until they were no longer a complete consciousness.
He then wonders why he's even wondering about it. There's so much inexplicable magic nonsense here that if he's going to question this, he might as well question everything. Ghost starts walking again, and he does too. ]
The two of you don't seem much alike.
no subject
Yes, we're very different. I'm sure you've seen how they are. [ Rude, selfish, violent Cairngorm. All their flaws personified, and now finally removed. Isn't this what they always wanted? To finally be their own person? To live a singular existence?
It hurts to be so unsure. ]
no subject
I have. They're so shy that they can seem mean, but they care a lot about people, even if they're afraid to show it. [ he replies without missing a beat, looking over at Ghost with a smile. ] You, on the other hand, seem pretty easy to talk to.
no subject
[ They don't seem to say much of Lupin's compliment, other than an offhand "I'm here to help". They mean it, but they don't seem to want to make themselves the focus of the conversation. ]
no subject
I don't at all! We're good friends, actually. They're usually the one yelling at me for doing dangerous things.
no subject
[ Their hands move to adjust their tie. Their mind dwells on their last conscious moments, and they suppose there's a sort of half-truth to what Lupin says. ]
How long have you known each other?
no subject
[ not that long by human standards, either, honestly, but it doesn't take long to make friends with somebody, especially if you're Arsène Lupin. ]
