t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well. (And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!) What now? Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. [ She actually has to think about how to answer that. ]

I was ... traveling, back home. I was on a journey with my friends.

... that's pretty vague.

[Purposeful? No, he's not really sensing that she's trying to hide something. More like unsure.]

I mean if you don't wanna talk about it, that's fine. Just figured it'd be a good idea to get to know each other.

O-Oh, no, I don't mean to make it seem like I don't want to talk! I just don't really know how to explain what was happening before I wound up here, that's all.

[ She did want to talk, though. It was good. ]

Maybe I can answer something a little more specific?

Aha. I get it.

[There are lives lived that are vastly different from his, lives that may have somehow been stranger than his and he'd never know it. There were things that didn't always lend themselves to easy explanations.]

Not really sure to where to start with 'more specific'. You can ask me questions if you want?

[He might not be completely honest with her, but he won't outright lie.]

Okay. Maybe something like ... how old are you?

[ He seemed to be around her own age, so that was hopefully not too invasive? ]

Uh...

[Not too invasive at all. Just... something he actually doesn't think about much? He has to pause (speaking, not walking) and tick some numbers off on his fingers with some thoughtful mumbling before answering-]

Almost seveteen!

[spiria]

Really? I'm seventeen. So we're about the same age, then!

[ She pauses in talking again, trying to think of anything else. ]

... Now your turn? We can take turns asking questions.

[ Maybe she'd get some inspiration from whatever he managed to ask. ]

Huh. Neato.

[Another teenager. What were the odds? Hopefully whoever was in charge here wasn't looking to start another war with child soldiers...

A worry for another time. Questions, questions...]

Where are you from?

The world I live in or the town I came from?

[ Eh, may as well answer both. ]

My world is called Celirand. I was born and raised in a town called Norquin, though.

How about you?

Huh. So that whole nonsense about other worlds is true...

[Tucking that information away.]

Colony L2.

[spiria]

Celirand isn't the only world I know of, too.

[ Colony L2? That was an interesting name for a place. ]

What's it like on Colony L2?

[deathscyther]

[No one ever said the naming conventions for space colonies was clever.]

Uh, pretty basic. Nothing really special about if from any other colony. I mean it's on the other side of Earth's moon so we don't get much attention, but we've made due.

[Save for a few plagues here and there.]

[spiria]

[ Forgive the confusion over what Earth is. And what the other colonies are like. ]

I .. really don't know what the other colonies are like, so ...

[deathscyther]

[Yeah, that wasn't very descriptive.]

Hnm... ever been to a big city before?

[spiria]

Oh! Yes, I have!

[ One with giant carnival, and a contest, and then there was the big imperial city, and ...

... basically, yes, she has been to a big city. ]

So a colony in your world is basically a big city?

[deathscyther]

Basically. It's in space, though.

[He points up.]

There's five of them, and I grew up on L2.

[spiria]

Whoa!

[ Well, scientifically, weren't they all in space? Still, the way Duo was talking about it, she could tell that it was something really out of the ordinary. ]

I guess it probably doesn't feel like anything special to you, though, huh?

[deathscyther]

Mnn... I guess not, no. Going to Earth for the first time was pretty awesome, though! It was totally new for me to see the horizon stretching on forever and blue sky instead of the inner workings of the colony.

[spiria]

... I guess I kind of understand that. In a way, getting out of my hometown for the first time ever was a little similar.

[ ... Oh, right. She should explain why. She looks to him. ]

I was, ah ... Kind of sheltered. My brother and I both.

[deathscyther]

I get it. I know a kid who was pretty sheltered for a long time, too. Became a damn fine pilot and leader, though.

[Ah, Quatre. He already misses you.]

Nothing wrong with being sheltered so long as you don't stay that way forever.

[spiria]

We didn't. I made sure of that.

[ It really was her, too. She was going to leave home whether Hisui wanted to or not. She'd made a promise to Richea and she had intended to follow through with it, no matter what that took. ]

Getting out into the world beyond my hometown has been an experience, for sure. I imagine your friend probably felt something similar.

[deathscyther]

Well... Quatre probably would've liked it more if it wasn't because of war, but it gave him a lot of experience that he used to take over his father's company successfully. I gotta admire him for that, at least.

[spiria]

Oh ...

[ He was as old as she was and involved in war? She assumed his friend was around the same age as well. It struck a chord with her, as she and her friends were all around a similar age (with a couple of exceptions) and involved in a brewing war between the church and the army. It wasn't really the same thing, but ... She could only imagine how bad it must have been, because she was afraid of just the mere idea. ]

At least he was able to get some good out of it. That's a pretty huge deal, taking over a business like that.

The second one was very short.

The first one... was going since before he was even born.

He and his friends are the reason that it ended, but he's not the sort to brag about something like that.]

Yeah. I mean, he was pretty torn up about his dad for a while...

[Torn up. Read: Went fucking batshit. Which was just as much the fault of the ZERO system as it was Quatre's grief, but he did sort of... blow up a colony.

An empty one, thank fuck.]

but I think he really turned it around. He's a good guy. Sucks that he went through so much.

[spiria]

[ She never really knew her own parents, so ... She could only imagine what losing a parent would be like. ]

It always seems like the ones who don't deserve it end up going through the most ...

[ She might be thinking about Shing. He's gone through a lot of shit since they've met. A lot of the shit being her brother. ]
