t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well. (And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!) What now? Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. Mnn... I guess not, no. Going to Earth for the first time was pretty awesome, though! It was totally new for me to see the horizon stretching on forever and blue sky instead of the inner workings of the colony.

... I guess I kind of understand that. In a way, getting out of my hometown for the first time ever was a little similar.

[ ... Oh, right. She should explain why. She looks to him. ]

I was, ah ... Kind of sheltered. My brother and I both.

I get it. I know a kid who was pretty sheltered for a long time, too. Became a damn fine pilot and leader, though.

[Ah, Quatre. He already misses you.]

Nothing wrong with being sheltered so long as you don't stay that way forever.

We didn't. I made sure of that.

[ It really was her, too. She was going to leave home whether Hisui wanted to or not. She'd made a promise to Richea and she had intended to follow through with it, no matter what that took. ]

Getting out into the world beyond my hometown has been an experience, for sure. I imagine your friend probably felt something similar.

Well... Quatre probably would've liked it more if it wasn't because of war, but it gave him a lot of experience that he used to take over his father's company successfully. I gotta admire him for that, at least.

Oh ...

[ He was as old as she was and involved in war? She assumed his friend was around the same age as well. It struck a chord with her, as she and her friends were all around a similar age (with a couple of exceptions) and involved in a brewing war between the church and the army. It wasn't really the same thing, but ... She could only imagine how bad it must have been, because she was afraid of just the mere idea. ]

At least he was able to get some good out of it. That's a pretty huge deal, taking over a business like that.

The second one was very short.

The first one... was going since before he was even born.

He and his friends are the reason that it ended, but he's not the sort to brag about something like that.]

Yeah. I mean, he was pretty torn up about his dad for a while...

[Torn up. Read: Went fucking batshit. Which was just as much the fault of the ZERO system as it was Quatre's grief, but he did sort of... blow up a colony.

An empty one, thank fuck.]

but I think he really turned it around. He's a good guy. Sucks that he went through so much.

[ She never really knew her own parents, so ... She could only imagine what losing a parent would be like. ]

It always seems like the ones who don't deserve it end up going through the most ...

[ She might be thinking about Shing. He's gone through a lot of shit since they've met. A lot of the shit being her brother. ]

[Neither did Duo, but had enough empathy to know that Quatre's strained relationship with the man didn't make the loss hurt any less.]

[BOY this conversation sure got depressing.]

[ ... Yeah, we need less a less depressing topic. ]

... I wonder what this place is going to be like?

No idea. All I know is we're both a long way from Kansas, Toto.

[ The reference is lost on her, bro. ]

And what's a Kansas?

[Duo snorted, shaking his head.]

A place on Earth. And I know, it's a joke.

[ She doesn't get the joke. ]

I don't understand it.

I'll have to introduce you to movies. ... somehow.

[Given the state of the town they're approaching, he's not expecting a theater nearby.]

[ Despite being far less technologically advanced than Duo's world clearly was, she even knew that the state of the town was not quite the best. This place clearly needed help. She didn't know what she could do to help, but that's something they both would find out, she was sure. ]

... I honestly didn't think it was gonna be this... rough looking.

[Sure, he'd grown up in some pretty nasty places, back alleys and the dark holes that the average colony resident wouldn't even so much as glance at.

This place, "Chroma" as he saw it called, looked like it really had seen better days.]

[spiria]

I guess this place really needs our help.

[ Though it would have been nice if the place had taken her at a time where things were a little better off back home ... ]

[Duo shifted on his feet, lips pulled taught as he scratched at the back of his neck and some of his tangled hair.]

I don't know what it expects to get out of me...

[spiria]

Me neither, but I guess that's something we'll find out?

[ Obviously it isn't going to dump them here and not eventually give them any clues, right?
