Event Ten.

Little Willie, mean as hell,
Pushed his sister in a well.
Mother said, while drawing water,
"My, it's hard to raise a daughter."

t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well.

(And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!)

Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. Hopefully they can get a hand out! For more information, please go here!

I'm a naminari. ( with a slow lift of his shoulders. is that supposed to not be known here? it's a bad thing back home, but this isn't home and also they're kind of in a tough spot here from what he's heard and yuu doesn't. care much of what people think of him either. so. whatever. )

So I've got like, demon-y senses. Super eyes, super ears. .

( and he's nnot running into anything but he still opens his eyes after another few steps, moves towards the house his heart is leading him to. )

Sometimes I forget stuff but we're working on that.

[Both of his brows rise, but there's only one that can be seen honestly.] A half demon...? [Thank God for, like, fantasy Japanese or whatever.

So almost a demon. Interesting. And... a little worrying. He'd only be the pot calling the kettle black if he tried to criticize--he had done a lot worse when he had been young. Accepting Orochimaru's power, becoming cursed. Hadn't he been something like a demon technically?

This doesn't deter him, it seems. He continues to trail after Yuu without difficulty.]

Who is "we"?

( fingers wrap around the door knob of a house, easily turning it and letting himself in. this place feels right, yeah. somewhere deep in his heart. through the hallway he goes, chin tilted up as he sniffs his way through the house. )

Yeah. . Guren and me. He's my family--he's here, too. I used to uh, have a problem of going a little too demon-y for a while at a time but he made a medicine that fixed it.

( that they don't have here but it's cool, he's got this. everything is fine. )

Being a naminari isn't so bad. It helps me protect the people I care about, so.

[Oh.......

Yuu's excellent hearing will catch Sasuke slowing suddenly to a stop in the hallway. He's frowning, but his face is dark with the hair and the lack of light. Pensive. Away momentarily is his gaze, looking at the floor, and then he focuses when he glances up.]

You should be careful still. About the power you take to protect your friends.

( steps stop and yuu tilts his head back, big green eyes focusing right on sasuke where he stands as he looks back up, opens his mouth. )

See, now you're starting to sound a little like Mika.

( not that this dude knows who mika is. but yuu doesn't miss a beat before continuing on, tone steady. )

I'll do anything if it keeps the people I care about safe. Even if it means becoming a demon, or forgetting who I am.

[Oh no. Oh no... This fool. This giant FOOL!!! Sasuke is gonna kick Yuu's ass.

True, he doesn't know who Mika is, but that's okay. Yuu hadn't sounded annoyed when saying it; therefore, he knows it can't be entirely a bad thing. Again, he begins following Yuu through the house in that slow, steady way of his.]

If you lose yourself, they won't be safe. [His voice is as calms as his steps. He isn't patronizing or condescending. The sincerity makes it sound as if he's had experience.] You think it would be better--all the power--so long as your friends are alive, but it wouldn't. They would have to live in a world without you.

The most important thing about friends is that you have them. Including you.

( a weird conversation to get into with a guy who he doesn't even know the name of, but. it's not one he's against talking about. yuu's rather open about where he stands when it comes to this stuff. lips purse as he takes another step forward, finds another door handle and wraps fingers around it.

this one feels right, anyway. )

I've lost everyone, twice. ( voice steady even if his tone lowers a little. ) I don't really remember much about the first time, but the second? I watched my whole family be murdered in front of me. Everyone I was trying my best to protect, everyone I loved and cared about. I was one of the oldest, it was my job to protect them, but I ran them right into their deaths.

( he's going to fix it. bring them all back to life. fuck everything else if it means getting his kids back. )

I didn't want to make friends or be around anyone after, but a new family found me, and took me in--even when I told them I didn't care about them and didn't want them. So I'm not going to ever let it happen again. I'd rather lose myself than have to stand by helplessly while that happens, again.

You're not listening again.

[The scold is only mild, more tired than anything. He supposes this is karma, isn't it? For the things he's done in the past, things just as stupid, things more stupid. Things following the same reasoning.

A foot or so back, he stops and waits for Yuu to try the familiar-feeling door. Rather than file inside, he comes to stand, loomingly black, in the doorway once Yuu has gone inside to inspect what's there.]

The strength you're looking for you already have. The fate of the family you lost before wasn't your fault. The death of my clan wasn't my fault either, but I blamed myself for a long time. I was the only survivor.

The family you've made, the one you have now, is only as strong as all of you make it. Even if just one of you pulls away from the rest, it will destroy what you've built together.

They'll be too concerned trying to get you back. Family, remember? You mean a great deal to them. They'll do anything to do it, including getting in harm's way.

If something else doesn't kill them first, you'll be the one to do it in the end.

( he's still not listening, sasuke. but he gets an a for effort. the room is--bare inside still, but the laptop yuu was looking for lays in the center of the mattress. he's quick to gather that up under an arm, hearing the words the other's saying even if he's not quite processing them the way one would want him to. )

Yeah, I get that. ( eh kind of ) But what if all of them die, and I'm the only one left again? Sometimes people have to make bad choices to save the people they care about, you know? And even if I forgot how to be human, at least they'd still be alive. And maybe they could fix it. ( they're working on fixing mika still, too.

there's a pause as he turns around to sasuke, eyes him for a moment. )

You lost yours, too? That sucks.

[teenagers]

I did. [Even with Yuu retrieving the laptop, Sasuke doesn't move from out of the doorway. He doesn't take his eye off Yuu either. A stretch of silence pulls between them, but then he decides to speak.] My older brother killed them.

A new family took me in after a while. We were a team in school, along with our teacher. In the end, I almost lost them, too.

( my older brother killed them. there's an image that flashes behind his eyes, a knife, his own cries of daddy please i'll be a good boy, of fire surrounding him as he sat in the middle of his family's living room.

he doesn't know this dude well at all, but they. have some similarities, he realizes. the kind of similarities he wouldn't want to share with anyone. yuu's expression darkens noticeably, lilt to his lips falling flat. )

I was at an orphanage when I was small, and we were all taken underground to a vampire city. ( none of this is a secret, even if some of the bits and pieces to the seraph stuff is. ) We tried to escape and all my kids were killed--except one, but I didn't know he survived until just a little bit ago. And then Guren found me, took me in, gave me a team and helped me out.

[Yuu doesn't know yet, but Sasuke's had been much the same in different ways. He spent a long time hating Itachi. He still spends many nights dreaming about the bodies in the street, dreaming about the scene of his parents Itachi force him to watch, to memorize. Sitting alone in the middle of the floor, knowing he was one of the last.]

I'm sure my words don't mean much to you right now. You're young. I was young once, too. You're strongest when you're with them, working together. You don't have to go that far. It was a very long time before I understood that.

It took a no-good, yellow-haired loser [this sounds strangely affectionate] to show me. I tried everything I could to get him to hate me, but he never gave up on me.

He told me he wouldn't ever let me become someone like that. A monster.

Now you're starting to sound like Guren. A little.

( with his tongue sticking out between teeth, making a sour face as he waits for sasuke to. . get out of the way of the door. he's done getting the only thing out of here that he probably need needs. there's blankets and stuff he can come back for, later if he feels like it. probably someone else in here. . the place doesn't look abandoned, there's dust but it doesn't cover every surface. )

I've got Guren, and Ashuramaru, and Guren said everyone's here like family, too. So nothing bad's going to happen here. ( he'd fucking jump off a bridge if guren told him to, trusting these people because guren said they're all family's no biggie. ) Which means you're family now, too.

[Geez. He's plagued by too much Family now, thanks. Between his actual family and Naruto's dumbass and Boruto, he's got four Family too many.]

You don't know me. How can you possibly call me family? [Itachi is who he thinks about. The brother who sacrificed everything, pulled back and forth between two cowardice powers.] I could have done many terrible things.

[He relinquished the door for Yuu, however, stepping back in a flurry of cloak ends and waiting.]

We're all stuck here together. Unless we all work together, nothing's going to get accomplished.

( a loose lift of his shoulders, before he walks out the door and gestures for this guy to follow. )

What's your name? I'm Hyakuya Yuuichirou.

[Okay, Naruto. Settle down.]

Uchiha Sasuke.

[Really Yuu is the one coming and going. Sasuke can wander as he pleases. So Yuu gets the front, and Sasuke follows after in the same way he had followed the boy the first time.]

( that works for him. sasuke can follow as he wants. he's got a name now, he'll remember him. hopefully. who the fuck knows with all his memory problems as of late. )

What's with the cloak? You hiding stuff in there?

( laptop obtained, it's time to--start heading back to guren's place. again. )

[Escort missions are the worst.]

It's good not to give yourself away to the enemy. Surprise can give you the upper hand. [Sasuke doesn't sound bothered. His right hand parts the cloak and holds it open just a tad. The sword is still there, mostly hidden behind him.

The strangest thing about it perhaps is it's located on the right side, and it's only strange if Yuu paid attention to the limp left sleeve. Sasuke must draw with his right arm and, yet, the sword is still positioned on the right.

The difficulty in drawing may be a personal challenge which says something about Sasuke without anyone having to ask questions.] You can check if you'd like.

( sasuke could have no arms and yuu may find it a little weird to have a sword with no arms, but he's seen. weirder stuff. so he doesn't comment on it, even if his eyes immediately fall to the blade, interest piqued. )

Cool sword. You any good with it?

[Boruto vibes. He can't believe he left behind one rowdy soft boy and picked up another rowdy soft boy.]

I know a thing or two. [It isn't just for show.] Are you any good with yours?

( fingers wrap around the hilt of his blade with practiced ease and there's--an energy about him, notably darkish even if it isn't quite foul. )

Yeah. Ashuramaru and I are partners, we're super strong together. ( one rowdy soft boy for another, sorry sasuke. ) Wanna spar sometime?

A team, hm?

[The single, visible brow rises slowly, curiously. He still thinks the energy feels an awful lot like kinjutsu--upsetting. But he can admit Yuu appears to at least be able to manipulate and control it easily.

Maybe it's something like Susanoo--no, not a simple avatar. He thinks about Naruto, about Kurama. It's more like that.] Alright.

But I don't spar just anyone. [This is what you get. Teasing.] If you want to spar me, you have to prove you'll be worth the effort.

( for small stuff like this, he's got it all under control. it's when stuff gets really heavy that yuu starts fucking up, that he loses control of himself--of his demon, of his seraph, of something. but he always, always comes back from it. that's what's important. )

I'm really strong! I'll prove it.

( not that he's sure how. a quick look around the hallway before yuu's sprinting for the open door and hopping around on his toes, waiting for sasuke. )

Tell me what you want me to do to show you!

[Lord, help him. Guide him in trying to not be the shittiest sort of role models and father figures for impressionable youths.]

It isn't necessarily about being strong. [Yuu has a lot of energy and bounds ahead, but Sasuke... takes his time like an old man. He'll get there, listen. He's patient.] It won't be easy or quick.

But it'll show me you're ready.

[From somewhere beneath the cloak, Sasuke pulls out one of the starred shuriken and shows it to Yuu by flipping it back and forth once or twice between two fingers.]

The man you're here with, the one you called family. I'm going to give this to him. You have to take it and bring it back to me. If you think you can.

I can do that.

( sounds easy even if it's really time consuming. he'll have to wait for sasuke to find guren, to chase him down, wrestle him onto the ground and take it off of him, but that's manageable. he's sure. )

That's a throwing star, right? Can I see one?

( he wants to throw the pointy thing. )
