Event Ten.

Little Willie, mean as hell,
Pushed his sister in a well.
Mother said, while drawing water,
"My, it's hard to raise a daughter."

t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well.

(And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!)

What now?

Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. Hopefully they can get a hand out! For more information, please go here!

No, that's alright. My biocomponents are designed in such a way that I wouldn't need any external power for over a hundred years.

[So he's good to go! But it's nice of Zelda to concern herself with it.]

If I become damaged, however, I would need replacement thirium... That might be a challenge, in this place.

[ oh good! it's a little like the sheikah technology then. that makes it a little easier to grasp... him, in a manner of speaking. the mechanical guardians of hyrule had their own intelligence to them in order to adapt to the enemy - maybe then he's just similar to that, but on a grander scale. ]

I've never heard of thirium before either, but you make it sound like it would be hard to recreate for you. You should do your best to stay out of the line of danger.

Right, well, if I have to do something potentially dangerous for a mission, then I might not be able to avoid it.

[A pause while he thinks about that. Right now the only missions he really has are "Contact Lieutenant Anderson" and "Contact CyberLife," both of which are impossible at the moment.]

Although... I suppose at the moment, my primary mission is on hold.

[This... is weird. He's never not had a mission before. Connor's brow creases, like he's confused.]

It is.

[ she doesn't know what that mission is, but it's obviously not something he can do here if it has to be on hold. there's no need to pry into someone's life on their first day here. ]

However you can have a new mission, can you not? Something that maybe fits into your parameters?

[ thinking from the "machine" perspective on this. she had to work with the ancient-made guardian machines and her research concluded that they had a directive on which to always act on. ]

...Yes. I suppose I should find a new mission, and fulfill it to the best of my ability, until such a time as we find an escape, or are rescued.

[Of course. Obviously.]

Normally at this point, I default to providing assistance to humans. However, I am not properly equipped for domestic uses, grueling manual labor, healthcare, military services, or retail work. My primary function is as a police android, more specifically as a detective.

[There were a few other things he could have specified he's not equipped for, but he doubts Zelda wants the entire list, especially considering some things that are on it.]

Is there any sort of law enforcement in this town?

There is a defense force. It isn't quite proper law enforcement, as we must govern ourselves and hold others accountable, but it's the best we have in our circumstances.

[ there are no kings or monarchies to set the law, and she personally doesn't like the idea of a mayor when there are too many factors up in the air regarding that. the defense force does a good job for what it can do. ]

If you need a mission, I would set your sights on helping to restore the color to this world. It's only speculation, but we believe we may find our way back to our homes as soon as the world has been rid of its affliction. That seems to be our purpose for being here at a glance.

[A defense force. Vigilantism is usually to be discouraged, since it often ignores proper due process, but under the circumstances it's not a bad idea. He'll have to learn more about it, but in the meantime...]

Restore the color? And how do we do that?

[Thankfully someone has already informed him that that isn't just his vision malfunctioning. Though it raises more questions than it answers - he's fairly certain no such phenomenon as this has ever existed, where objects lost their color en masse, and slowly regained it, regardless of the light from the sun or artificial sources.

In short: very weird.]

Mainly through quests, but also by building bonds with others. The quests you'll find on the computer in your designated home.

As for the bonds... well, it's all a matter of connecting with others. Rather easy to do when we're such a small community already. One cannot be an island here.

[Quests. Missions. He can do that much. But as for the other part...]

Quests should be doable. I'll chip in what I can, if it will help us all leave faster.

However, I am a machine. Forming connections with others is something I can't really do.

[It's all fake, just a simulation to make him less creepy. That's what Connor has known since he was activated just a few months ago. Believing anything different is just asking to become deviant.]

[ hm. she wonders about that. ]

We're forming a connection right now though, aren't we? [ said with a tiny raise of a grin. ] I must confess, I come from a realm with limited technological resources. You're an amazingly advanced creation in my eyes, and I think you shouldn't sell yourself short so quickly.

I'm not selling myself short. It's simply not possible.

However, I'd like to become as familiar as I can with the rest of you. Camaraderie with allies is important.

[So he'll smile at that.]

[ oh. that certainty in his tone gets a frown from her, but if he thinks that then... well she doesn't really know anything about androids. maybe he's right? ]

You will. [ she inhales a breath and smiles again. ] Everyone here is welcoming to newcomers. I'm sure you will find many allies here. And I'm sure in time... something akin to a bond will form. Even if small.

[He is right. Though he's perfectly capable of adapting to humans (and other beings!), so if a bond is what Zelda wants between them, he can at least simulate that.

Right.]

I hope that will include you.

[ there's no reason to not! even if he is a machine, that makes her all the more fascinated. a love of technology is strong in her, though always limited by the narrow-minded people of her world and their fear of it. ]

I would love to learn more about you, and your kind. If you can call what you are a "kind." Research into technology is a passion of mine, so I may have to pick your brain.

As long as we're going to be stuck here awhile, I don't see any reason you can't. [It's actually kind of refreshing, after being around people who seem about as interested in how he works as they are in vacuum cleaners.] Just know that some things are classified, because of patents and intellectual property rights.

[Even if he wanted to tell her, he physically can't.]

Understandable.

[ she doesn't know what a patent is, but the second term at least gives her a semblance of what it means through the words that make it up. ]

I'll see about making a list of questions and then getting back to you. This is new for me as coming to this world is for you, so you'll have to excuse my curiosity.

[ she'll have a long, long list that she will need to shorten down to a mid-sized list. ]

[But a list is the easiest way he could receive and answer questions, so he really won't mind. It's better than blurting out questions and then cursing at him a lot. Zelda is very organized!]

Feel free. Apparently I'm supposed to live in "Bluo," so I assume you'll be able to find me there, or around town.

Excellent. That means we live in the same district. [ she pushes back a strand of her behind her ears with a grin. ] I'm working on making the Flavo church look livable again, but you should see me around regardless.

[There's a church in Flavo. He remembers it from the map, but now he has a person to associate with it.]
