t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well. (And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!) What now? Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. [A defense force. Vigilantism is usually to be discouraged, since it often ignores proper due process, but under the circumstances it's not a bad idea. He'll have to learn more about it, but in the meantime...]

Restore the color? And how do we do that?

[Thankfully someone has already informed him that that isn't just his vision malfunctioning. Though it raises more questions than it answers - he's fairly certain no such phenomenon as this has ever existed, where objects lost their color en masse, and slowly regained it, regardless of the light from the sun or artificial sources.

In short: very weird.]

Mainly through quests, but also by building bonds with others. The quests you'll find on the computer in your designated home.

As for the bonds... well, it's all a matter of connecting with others. Rather easy to do when we're such a small community already. One cannot be an island here.

[Quests. Missions. He can do that much. But as for the other part...]

Quests should be doable. I'll chip in what I can, if it will help us all leave faster.

However, I am a machine. Forming connections with others is something I can't really do.

[It's all fake, just a simulation to make him less creepy. That's what Connor has known since he was activated just a few months ago. Believing anything different is just asking to become deviant.]

We're forming a connection right now though, aren't we? [ said with a tiny raise of a grin. ] I must confess, I come from a realm with limited technological resources. You're an amazingly advanced creation in my eyes, and I think you shouldn't sell yourself short so quickly.

I'm not selling myself short. It's simply not possible.

However, I'd like to become as familiar as I can with the rest of you. Camaraderie with allies is important.

[So he'll smile at that.]

[ oh. that certainty in his tone gets a frown from her, but if he thinks that then... well she doesn't really know anything about androids. maybe he's right? ]

You will. [ she inhales a breath and smiles again. ] Everyone here is welcoming to newcomers. I'm sure you will find many allies here. And I'm sure in time... something akin to a bond will form. Even if small.

[He is right. Though he's perfectly capable of adapting to humans (and other beings!), so if a bond is what Zelda wants between them, he can at least simulate that.

[ there's no reason to not! even if he is a machine, that makes her all the more fascinated. a love of technology is strong in her, though always limited by the narrow-minded people of her world and their fear of it. ]

I would love to learn more about you, and your kind. If you can call what you are a "kind." Research into technology is a passion of mine, so I may have to pick your brain.

As long as we're going to be stuck here awhile, I don't see any reason you can't. [It's actually kind of refreshing, after being around people who seem about as interested in how he works as they are in vacuum cleaners.] Just know that some things are classified, because of patents and intellectual property rights.

[But a list is the easiest way he could receive and answer questions, so he really won't mind. It's better than blurting out questions and then cursing at him a lot. Zelda is very organized!]

Excellent. That means we live in the same district. [ she pushes back a strand of her behind her ears with a grin. ] I'm working on making the Flavo church look livable again, but you should see me around regardless.
