Little Willie, mean as hell, Pushed his sister in a well. Mother said, while drawing water, "My, it's hard to raise a daughter."

t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well. (And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!) What now? Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. [ zelda is taking a break at the church grounds, doing what she feels she can to keep the old place of worship in good condition. this means, today, sweeping the floors. she notices him as he approaches the place, politely smiling his way. ]

Are you here to worship? Don't let me get in your way if you are.

[noholdsbard]

[ He responds to that smile with one himself, albeit it still skews on the side of gloomy. ]

Alas, I do not know that much can come of my worship. But pray tell me—do you know to whom this church is devoted to?

I'm afraid I don't know.

[ she's been wondering that herself, but there's no discerning symbols, statues, scriptures. ]

If I had to guess, it was for whichever higher being the people of this town held their faith in. There's no way to ask them about it though.

[noholdsbard]

I see…that is truly unfortunate.

[ Well, he can’t sense any magic from it, at any rate—but that’s not exactly something he’s skilled at to begin with. ]

And yet you care for it still…I had hoped that you might have been its goddess, come to bestow her blessings upon the mortal realm.

[ CHOKES- ]

You - You shouldn't make such quick assumptions!

[ she almost wants to correct him by saying she's the descendant of a mortal goddess, not one herself. however, that might just cause more complications for her that she doesn't want. ]

[noholdsbard]

[ Well, where he comes from, you trip over a goddess with every step, anyway. ]

Ah, you have my apologies. I have spoken out of turn.

[withwisdom]

...It's alright. [ can't come off too flustered now, less he thinks it suspicious. ] No, I'm not the goddess of this church. My name is Zelda - I'm just another wayward visitor to this realm, the same as you.

[noholdsbard]

Miss Zelda. [ Here’s a bow in greeting. ] I am called Archer, and I really must apologize if I had offended you in anyway. I was…distracted…

[ And he regrets that as soon as he said it. ]

[withwisdom]

[ she bows in return to him too, common court manners never forgotten even after many years away from them. ]

You have no need to apologize Archer. An honest mistake is forgiven. [ but... ] This situation is disorienting. It makes sense if you feel distracted. You may be suffering some fatigue without realizing it.

[noholdsbard]

Do you think so? [ He’s pretty sure that fatigue isn’t the problem, from having supernatural levels of endurance. But that issue really isn’t worth pressing for him, so… ]

But ah, it is so very sad to have come into a world where even places of worship bring no hope.

[withwisdom]

You must be quite devout. [ she makes a gentle hum, understanding well. ] It is sad. However, the hope we give each other is truly just as great as what we can find in the divine. If that is of any meager comfort to you.

[noholdsbard]

I thank you for such kind words. [ He gives her a small smile at that. ]

But you are right. Meeting the people here has given me a sense of purpose. And if some good can still be done in this world, then I would have paid my dues to this humble church.

[withwisdom]

[ it does her well to think that. she's never been spiritually inclined, even despised prayer for a long time, but she feels a little protective over it when so many here don't seem to care from her talks. ]

If you would like, the two of us may pray together then. Though we do not share the same faith, there is no great crime in the eyes up above to give thanks and worship for the sake of others.

[noholdsbard]

[ He feels like he’d just melted a little at that. Religious wars had been prominent in his era, so it feels nice to simply have people of conflicting faiths coming together. ]

I would like nothing better, my lady. [ A bow. ] Perhaps someday I might even sing a hymn for this deity.

[withwisdom]

A hymn... that would be so lovely.

[ ah, but- ]

We don't know the deity that reigns over the land. There's little to go by, but I would love to hear one of yours.

[noholdsbard]

I can compose one. After all, the land and the people are what make the deity. If we should uncover more of that…

[withwisdom]

Then you would have more material?

[ it's been a long time since she's heard a hymn of any sort... ]

Perhaps some other time - can you share with me one you already know? One from your realm.

[noholdsbard]

I suppose there is no harm in it. [ He pulls out his harp and begins strumming a tune that sounds a little like this. ]

[withwisdom]

[ thanks for bringing back the hot tunes of my childhood. ]

[ she puts the broom down and then leans against the brick walls as he prepares, knowing she must give undivided attention to this. there's a low anticipation brewing until he begins to play, which is when she closes her eyes and lets the song be her sole focus. the harp is her own favored instrument and in good time she finds herself humming to the melody, smiling all the same throughout. ]

[ He smiles by the end of it, feeling a light flutter in his heart at the way she sings along to the tune. It’s doubtful that anyone would find it familiar, but to have someone engage with him like this…it’s nostalgic.

With a bow. ]

I am glad that it is to your liking. I have composed it myself.

[ she gives him a few claps for his work at the end, thoroughly impressed and pleased. it feels nice to have such a gentleman in a town of mostly headstrong men, his mannerisms remind her very much of home. ]

It was beautiful, Archer. I'm curious now, are you a bard by trade?

[noholdsbard]

I’m more a warrior than a bard, I’m afraid. [ Though granted, he gets that question a lot anyway. ]

[withwisdom]

Warrior. A knight perhaps?

[ he has the mannerisms of one from her experiences, so she wants to be certain. it'd explain this familiar feeling a great deal. ]

[noholdsbard]

Indeed, I am. [ The fact that she’s caught on so quickly is a relief—but a part of him does feel a little concerned. He’s not very good at hiding his real identity, after all. ]

Though at the moment, I serve no king.
