Event Ten.

Little Willie, mean as hell,
Pushed his sister in a well.
Mother said, while drawing water,
"My, it's hard to raise a daughter."

t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well.

(And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!)

Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. Hopefully they can get a hand out! For more information, please go here!

Your face is from the Netherworld.

[ hm. ] That thing you did before - do that again.

Of course it's from the Netherworld, that's where all demons are from. [He doesn't seem to take this as an insult when it's simply a fact.]

What? You want me to turn into bats?

Yes. I want to see it up close. Can you survive being attacked while you're a ... colony, or whatever it is that's going on before you turned back into a demon again?

[ giorno's not really interested with the demon aspect until it's relevant to him again. the bats, however ... a colony, he could totally study a colony. ]

Why would anybody attack a colony of bats? [Which is to say: nobody's ever tried to attack him while he was in that form. Why would they?] It's hard to hit me when I'm in dozens of pieces. Still, I'd survive even if one of my pieces was injured. [Maybe he'd lose some hit points at the very worst.

But he has no reason not to turn into a bunch of bats.

So he'll turn into a bunch of bats.

What an obliging demon.]

[ giorno observes him with the a kind of tenacity as if he's evaluating a fashion icon, except that, you know, this is a colony of bats. ]

Why would anyone, indeed. [ he says this absently. surviving despite one of his pieces was injured. bats are ... highly mobile. and as far as giorno remembers, they carry a whole bunch pathogens because they're reservoirs and their capacity for powered flight.

this isn't something you tell a random stranger, though. this is all just giorno thinking to himself about the ways he can fight with how he can transform things with his stand. for now he's definitely cool getting ideas like this. ]

Thank you for indulging me. That was very cool.

[Val doesn't seem bothered in the least. Notably he doesn't talk until his body has reformed from all the bats. Speaking is difficult when he doesn't have the vocal cords for it.]

Hmhm... [A soft chuckle.] I don't mind. Now, who are you, lad?

[ oh. he's a lad now, huh. ] Are you another one of those younger-looking [ senior citizens ] immortals, because you're in good company.

The name is Giorno. Can you only turn into bats?

[You're all lads and lasses until you've earned Val using actual names.] I'm 2542. Are there more demons around?

I am Valvatorez. [There's one dramatic cape swish, as it flutters in a non existent breeze.] I'm a vampire, vampires turn into bats and I can turn into a dragon.

[ he raises his eyebrow. ] I don't know about 2542, but there are demons around.

Let's see the dragon form. Do you turn into a big dragon? Small dragon? Puff the magic dragon? Sleeping Beauty dragon? [ which one is it. ]

Any prinnies about? Just because they've been stuck in a town doesn't mean they get to slack off in their training.

... Puff the magic dragon? What are you talking about?

[Anyway, he'll jump up, become a bunch of bats, and form into this frankly gigantic dragon and just kind of flaps his wings while he's in the air.]

I don't know what prinnies are. If they're from your home, chances are none of them made it here, unless you're lucky.

[ giorno stares at its form, and then ... ]

... you know, that is not very attractive at all, I'm sorry to have made you done that.

Valvatorez, you can turn back now. [ please, for the love of god. ]

[Another rush of bats and Val is standing as himself again. He doesn't seem any more or less worn out than he was a moment ago. Well, he only transformed, no attacks had to happen.]

It's not supposed to be attractive- that would defeat the purpose of my existence as a demon... Though scaring humans hasn't been my job for centuries.

Anyway, a Prinny is the soul of a sinful human that's been sewn into a penguinlike skin.

Something terrible can also be beautiful at the same time. People can hold terror and beauty both in reverence, and I'd argue that one makes a more lasting impression in the latter case than just being unattractive.

That being said I suppose you it has its own rugged appeal, somewhere.

[ giorno takes in his explanation, and ponders about it. so they're a furry? ] That's .... interesting. Why a penguin? [ what have they done. ]

Hm... It sounds like you've put in a lot of thought about the nature of beauty and terror. Any particular reason for that? An... 'artist'? [He says it like he's never said the word before in his life.]

Prinny skins are cheap to manufacture. [Even the demon world has to deal with capitalism.]

Not really. [ a rather simpler answer: ] I'm vain.

[ that absolutely makes no sense to him. but also: ] Have you guys tried other animal shapes?

Fair enough, I suppose. Humans can be like that. [At least he's not delusional.]

The Prinny hides are uniform and every demon knows what they contain. Sinners who must work to pay off their sins. Why change something when it's worked fine for centuries?

I suppose so. [ it's his fault for expecting something cool out of hell, which is a pretty outdated concept anyway. centuries old. yeah, well. ]

Is that all they do? Work? [ a pause, and then - ] What do the demons do, then?

[Valvatorez thinks he's very cool, but he's not going to like... brag about it or whatever. Aesthetics are personal and subjective.]

Prinnies? They work until they've repaid all their sins. Hard labor, acting as soldiers for other demons, servant duties, reconnaissance... Whatever their master asks of them. Once they pay back their sins they can reincarnate to human.

Demons are supposed to scare humans and give them nightmares. These days they're all neglecting their duties in a bid for power. [TSK.] No matter, I'll be reviewing their activities and reassigning them based on performance. [Why does he sound like a business man]

Performance-based assessments sounds like a good reason not to show up to your job for the next millenia or so.

In any case, I ... wish you well if you manage to return. Until then, you're stuck with us, I'm afraid.

I feel like I'm the only demon that's actually doing their job. [The prinnies would probably say something similar.]

What a strange set of circumstances. No matter, I'll have to adjust. There's something to be said for adaptability.

It's a good skill to have. [ a pause, and then - ] I hope you don't mind working with humans, because that's the kind of population you're looking at here.

[Hm... well.] This will be the first time I've worked closely with your kind. What an excellent chance to understand your powers of camaraderie. [He's really just gonna spin it so it's a positive thing.]

I'm sure we have a lot to learn from each other. Stories about demons from our world aren't exactly the most flattering, and the same can probably be said about humans to your kind.

[ there you go, spin doctors right up here. ] Where are you staying in this town, Valvatorez?

It is true I only ever see the worst of your kind. Well... There was one exception...

[ANYWAY.] I've found a house in the blue district. Whoever brought us here delivered a crate of canned sardines there. [And with his nutritional needs, he figured it was his.]

[ WAIT. ]
