The Tailed Beasts also have the ability to communicate with humans. [And Mogget seems more similar to those than the toads.] I haven't encountered anything like you before, but I wasn't surprised by the talking.

[ Unfortunately, seeing a huge bat sleeping in the middle of town is not only alarming based on the past times this town has brought dangerous creatures within its borders, but it's also extra disturbing because they're not even sure what it is. It looks like no animal they've ever seen, so they have to assume it's some sort of monster, some beast from the forest that made it inside the town— even in broad daylight.

Adorable or not, they've already unsheathed their huge saw, gripping it with two hands like a baseball bat while they creep up to her sleeping body, obviously intending to slice her in half. They say nothing as they approach, because they'd vastly prefer to get this done stealthily, but they're not helped at all by the fact that their footsteps fall much more unnaturally than an animals, like subtle (but noticeable) clinks in the dirt. ]

It's less apologizing for something I haven't done and more an expression of empathy for your present state of... well, soaked. We all arrived the same way.

[ The voice does surprise them— as is evident by the slight widening of their eyes once they see where it came from. A talking cat.... well, they've seen stranger things in this place. Such as other talking animals. So they just sigh, pulling their folded arms closer to their chest and tearing their stare away, putting it back on the board in front of both of them. ]
