I can't control just any fire. It has to be the one I created. [Otherwise he'd be terrorizing his father every time moment they were near each other. Shouto would just turn off his flames. Constantly.]

If you knew how to gather driftwood, you should know how to light it without throwing fire from your fingers. Look. [He lifts his own hands, mimicking Shouto in holding the flint and the stone in each hand even if nothing is there.
He goes through the motions, slow at first, then as quick as it'd need to be for sparks. Hm. Hopefully Shouto's lingering ability won't make this explode into flame on the two of them...] The flint sparks when struck by something sharp enough. You're trying to create the sparks to catch on something that'll light easily.
Usually grass or paper or lighter--gas, too, if you have it. We didn't have anything but driftwood, unfortunately, so it took longer. You try. Make some sparks.

Shouto mimics the motion, a few sparks made by the flint and the stone. At least with his powers dampened there's no risk of explosions. Besides, he has a classmate that's much more explosion prone than Shouto is.]
Have you found gas in the town?

[His eyes lift.]
Do you need gas for your abilities?

I don't need anything to use my quirk. It just shifts my temperature one way or the other.
I'll show you once we get out of here.
