Yeah, maybe.
[Sort of appreciate it. He's seeing what he can grab. If they can find somewhere dry it, any wood will eventually dry out enough to be lit. Keith pauses in his examination of what looks like a fishing net and looks up.]
Five months? I was in the first group that got dragged here. ...and we've definitely had things come attack us before. Dragging people off to an island is new. Usually it's the forest.

[Not by much more than him, but it's a pretty good indication how long they've all been away from their homeworlds for.
He kicks a rock and moves some dead pieces of wood, collecting what he can in his arms.]
Hmm. You think it's some sort of pattern? I'm glad we got patrols set up.
no subject
[So how do they handle that exactly?]
There might be a pattern. It's almost a cycle, right? Things happen pretty regularly, some worse than others. But there's always something new. And always related to some fairytale or mythological stuff.

[It sucks. Mermaids were supposed to be cool, not human-hungry monsters.]
I always thought it was like we're in some sort of storybook. Because there's so much fairytale stuff it's almost like we're going through chapters.
[And towards some sort of bigger climax of the story? Who knows.]

[Carnivorous monster merfolk. But maybe they should have.]
Murder mermaids. ...murdermaids.
[He'll leave quipping to his teammates honestly. He's not good at it.]
It feels like that. Too bad most fairytales are pretty messed up and violent.
[So they're definitely in for it. As evidenced by everything.]

These aren't anything like the mermaids I've met. So yeah, murdermaids is about right.
[He picks up some more chucks of sad looking wood.]
Think we can try to build a fire with this stuff?
no subject
[The sirens are by far the worst sort of merperson.]
If we can dry it out, yeah. If it's damp, that's going to make even getting a flame lit pretty tricky.

Alright, let's try this! Fire!
[Sora uses a low-tier fire spell. Flames erupt from his hand and he tries to ignite the wood. It's an offensive spell so while he's used a low-level one it still sets off a rather big whoosh.]

[Magic. Keith will never understand it, but it definitely has its uses. He watches to see if the wood will take. It's damp, so it's hardly going up like an inferno. But still, as the spell fades he's pretty sure something is at least smoldering.]
I think that's a start.

Come on... [Puff. Puff!!] You can do it...!!
[Cheering on that little fire will work, right?]
