Event Nine.

Thus, on Life’s gloomy sea,
Heareth the marinere
Voices sweet, from far and near,
Ever singing in his ear,
“Here is rest and peace for thee!”

t's a dark night, and the sounds of feet in the darkness are further dampened and hidden by even more magic, as they are lured away by the soft sounds of dreams that are too good to be true, leaving the Town much, much emptier than when it began.

On one side, an island, and a ticking clock to a gruesome death.

On the other, the slow realization that those bonds everyone has been forging might mean much, much more than they first thought.

[Their wording is something Guren notes, and he considers them carefully as he draws his sword, eyes turning back again on the rest of the island, and the sirens.]

But in more than one piece— can you do that?

[If not, he'll have to get a lot more creative to try and help. But they had been searching for ways to put themself back together and so on, right? So... it should be fine? Maybe?]

What, like break my limbs off? I guess...

[ The idea of sending off themself in parts does give them a great deal of stress. What if any of those boats sink and they can't get them back? More importantly, if the boat with their head in it sinks, how are they supposed to return to shore at all? They frown, staring at his sword— they're aware it has tons of cool magical vampire and werewolf-slaying capabilities, but they're wondering if it would even be possible to cut their limbs off cleanly. ]

...But I can't lose any of them in the sea. There's no replacing them.

[ So they'd need to be sure they were being sent off with responsible people. ]

[Yeah, actually, his sword can totally do that. It can cut through cars and buildings and god knows what else, so I mean.]

No one is getting lost at sea. Every raft that leaves this island is getting back safe. I'll make sure of it.

[That's a lot of confidence for things he can't really control! He's just like that. It's the shonen in his heart. But he catches their gaze once he glances back.]

Just let me know what I can do to help.

[ They're giving him a very skeptical look at that. What, does he have ocean control powers too? Somehow they doubt it. ]

Ugh— whatever. I couldn't think of any other way off this island anyway... [ There's a pause while they throw a glance towards the rafts, calculating just how much they're going to have to cut off. ] But it's not as simple as just breaking them off. Someone will have to reassemble me when I get back.

[ Preferably someone they know?! They definitely don't want complete strangers chaperoning their limbs either. ]

Do you know everyone that came here?

Right. That whole thing.

[What a mess. There are sirens fighting some of the others, now, and Guren watches.]

Yeah, I'm aware. [Well, some people like Michael snuck on, and there might be more, but for the most part.] I organized the rafts as best as I could before we came here.

Why?

[ They pull their lips into a tight line. People who already know their situation and didn't get kidnapped... one of them, they don't have a problem asking for a favor from, but the other, they're slightly dreading how they'll never hear the end of it if he were to find out. ]

I need you to tell someone about this plan, before the rafts leave. I'd do it myself, but it's likely I'll barely remember anyone when I have my limbs off. [ For once, they look like they're genuinely asking for help, even if they seem slightly miffed that they've been put in this position. ] Lupin, or Dextera... either of them is fine.

[ Both of them have at least witnessed them be without a leg, so Cairn won't have to do the extra work of explaining every detail of how to repair themself. ]

I'm assuming at least one of them came on this mission, if not both. Am I wrong?

Yeah, they did. Dextera came on my boat.

[His little wooden craft... Guren tilts his head slightly. Strange enough that they'll have worse memories, but he guesses that's part of their thing. It's not the best time to discuss in too much detail, here.] They're the ones you trust, I assume? I don't know Lupin all that well yet, but they seem like good choices. Still, all of the people who came here are good people.

I can tell whichever one of them I see first. Any other details you want shared?

[ They make a face at the word "trust", before quite literally just holding their face in their palm. When it's put like that it sounds a lot more... mushy. It's just that they're trying to be practical. Now they have to be sulky about that too!!! ]

Just that whoever takes a piece needs to bring it to my house in Flavo. [ They'll have to break themself into small enough pieces that humans can carry on multiple different boats, which only adds to the probability that something will get lost. This is so sad... ] It's the only house without color there. As long as one of them knows and everything is in one place, I'll get rebuilt eventually...

[ How long that will take is a mystery! But it's not exactly like they have time to come up with a greater plan. ]

You can manage to pass on all that information?

Yeah.

[He says it confidently enough, letting his eyes flick back to them seriously.] I'll make sure all of you gets back. I'm not leaving anyone on this island, and that counts every piece of you.

[He'll scavenger hunt for their body parts, sure.]

[ They look through their fingers at him with a skeptical look, not sure how he's supposed to guarantee that. It's worrying, to say the least. They've never had to go this far to get out of something. ]

...Fine. This better work.

[ Their right hand goes to the middle of their left bicep, gripping there firmly before tugging a bit— there's an audible crack that accompanies it, too. Don't mind them while they just pull off the detachable arm, Guren. ]

I can take this off pretty easily, but— I didn't want to ask this, but can that blade cut through quartz? It's gonna be a pain to break off my own legs.

[This may be the weirdest thing he's ever witnessed. But he tilts his sword a little, glancing down at it.]

Most likely. As long as I don't put a curse into it when I cut you, it should be clean.

[And not like, dissolve them. So.] Show me where to cut. I can be precise. But, let's move a little closer to the shore, first.

[ Cool, they nod at his suggestion and move to get up, keeping a hand on their beginning to become limp left arm. ]

I can show you. As long as the cut isn't too jagged, it won't be a problem.

[ Cairn takes careful steps on the jagged rocks to advance towards the shore where there's other people from town in boats, obviously running off to go and try to find their own friends and such— but they tear their attention away from that to glance back for Guren, matching their pace with whatever he does. ]

It'll be quick, too. [ Efficient, and relatively painless. ] I'm sure you have plenty of other people to go look for.

Yeah. Don't worry, I'll get to them. You're someone we came to rescue, too.

[Stopping on the beach where it seems like a good place, he turns to face them head on.]

I can make clean cuts, so you won't have to worry about it being jagged. Ready? Just tell me where.

[ Him implying that they're someone the group specifically came to save makes them feel weird and noticed, and it shows on their somewhat uncomfortable expression. At least the issue of getting this leg off will keep it from being a point to dwell on— they move to sit, keeping one of their legs bent and the other straight. ]

Well... here is fine. [ They gesture to slightly above the center of the thigh on their straight leg, looking up at him. ] You'll have to halve each leg after you cut them off, too, probably. Below the knee is best.

[ Or they'll still sink boats!! Unfortunately. ]

Alright. Here I go.

[He's not going to waste more time asking if it hurts or if they're really sure. Instead, he lifts his blade and swings, like it's nothing. The power he puts behind it is plenty, though, just in case— like they suggested, he cuts the legs off, and then halves them.

It might be a horrifying sight to anyone else looking over, but it's fine, probably.]

[ They wince, but it's more like the sound that you make when you get a papercut rather than getting two of your limbs cleaved off. While he goes about halving them, they're busying themself tugging at their left arm, the sound of it breaking off only slightly louder than the waves around them. ]

Ugh. [ With a final tug, the limb comes right off, which they're quick to hold by the elbow, letting out an exhausted sigh. There is definitely a boatload (get it) of people giving them the strangest of looks, but it truly do be like that on this hell island. ] ...I expected more hesitation out of you.

[ Maybe Guren is cool with chopping people's limbs off on the regular, they don't know. But whatever; they gently set their newly taken off arm with the other pieces that have been taken off, doing what they can to keep a clear mind despite just losing half of all their memory. ]
