t's a dark night, and the sounds of feet in the darkness are further dampened and hidden by even more magic, as they are lured away by the soft sounds of dreams that are too good to be true, leaving the Town much, much emptier than when it began. On one side, an island, and a ticking clock to a gruesome death. On the other, the slow realization that those bonds everyone has been forging might mean much, much more than they first thought. I'm much better with firearms, but I have some experience with melee weapons. [ He was kind of forced to rely on the pile of knives he got from the harpy quest until he got a rifle from the wish coin. ]

Learning how to use a spear shouldn't be too difficult. They're straightforward.

[ Thrusting the pointy end at the enemy is about as simple as you can get, really. Unlike swords and similar weapons you don't have to worry about precise edge alignment, so spears are more forgiving to mistakes in some ways. ]

[Hm. There's a strange kind of judgment in his eyes, but it's brief. Damian doesn't know anything about Ryo except a name and a face, but he assumes this might be another case of Jason Todd.]

They aren't the hardest, but any weapon can be useless in the hands of someone who doesn't know what they're doing. [A pause. Spears are a fairly straight weapon...] Was that a joke?

[ That is certainly true. Luckily, Ryo tends to know what he's doing, and he learns quickly. ]

...Not an intentional one. [ He didn't even think of it until Damian pointed it out, thanks?? ] This isn't really an appropriate time for jokes.

[ Ryo just gives Damian a flat look and begins to carefully wrap the strips of cloth around the handle. ]

Do you have any other suggestions on how to improve this spear?

[ Damian looks a little too young to know anything useful about weapons, but Ryo knows better than to dismiss someone because of their age. When he was this boy's age, he was in college and he knew more than most of the grown-ups he was surrounded with. ]

[Well. That makes two of them, and honestly? One too many boy geniuses who sound like 800 year old gods inside of young bodies. Minus the fact Ryo is definitely Satan and Damian has definitely been to a planet resembling Hell.]

A lot, but we don't have the material for most here. You can make an arrowhead for it, but without the right bindings, it won't stay when you stab something. Just stick with the pointed wood. If anything, make each end pointed so you can utilize both directions.

[For a moment, he pauses, thoughtfully peering at the spear and dagger.]

This island should be a part of a volcano. I found a few small pieces of flint, if you think that would help you. Some of the others said their powers had been nullified. Magic.

[ Ryo nods. If there were any trees on the island, he'd try making pitch glue for an arrowhead, but with materials being scarce he's going to have to rely on the pointed wood. ]

Sinew can be used for bindings, but I'd have to obtain it from one of the sirens—or from any fish I catch, but I'm not sure how viable fish tendons would be.

[ He's read about people using sinew from deer and other animals like elk or bisons, but he doesn't recall anything about tendons from fish being used in this manner. The caudal tendons in a siren are probably better than anything he'd get from a regular fish, but he's not going to start a fight with a siren when all he has is the aforementioned pointed wood. ]

I don't have any powers, but that's useful to know. [ ...well, he does have his unnatural healing factor but he's not about to go get himself injured to see if it still works. ]
