Event Nine.

Thus, on Life’s gloomy sea,
Heareth the marinere
Voices sweet, from far and near,
Ever singing in his ear,
“Here is rest and peace for thee!”

t's a dark night, and the sounds of feet in the darkness are further dampened and hidden by even more magic, as they are lured away by the soft sounds of dreams that are too good to be true, leaving the Town much, much emptier than when it began.

On one side, an island, and a ticking clock to a gruesome death.

On the other, the slow realization that those bonds everyone has been forging might mean much, much more than they first thought.

Welcome to Awash's ninth event log, everyone! Further information on this event can be found here at the OOC post.

You are welcome to start your own posts or logs for this event as well. If there are any questions, please ask them here. Please be sure to very clearly mark where your characters are in your prompts, so people know which they can tag depending on which group they are in. Thank you!

[ at first zelda just thinks she's hit a very large rock, but quickly stumbles her feet back as something bubbles up in the water. her first instinct is to grip the spear back to her person and ready for an attack, nerves frayed and the sirens ever lurking. but when she sees a familiar head pop out, her survival instincts come to settle. ]

Cairngorm? [ she says dumbly, before letting out a heavy sigh, annoyance now in her voice as well. ] Oh gods, you gave me such a fright!

[ Their brows furrow when they hear Zelda's familiar voice, both relieved and stressed out to see her on this island. They're at least glad she recognizes them, even in their slightly altered state. ]

How do you think I feel? I thought you'd chip me...

[ On cue, they walk forward out of the water more so they can feel their face for any crack or other flaw, sighing just as she is. ]

You're fishing right now?

[ she gets a better look at them now that they left the water, and is definitely surprised by the different tone in their rock make-up. is that just from the water right now, or something else? ]

I am. It isn't pleasant, but there's no fruit on the island or vegetation suitable for consumption. [ ...she tried eating the leaves is what she's saying without saying here. ] Do you want me to help check? I don't think the wood is strong enough to do any lasting damage.

[ or so she hopes, they have enough troubles here as it is. ]

No, it's alright... it should be fine if it's just wood.

[ With a shake of their head, they continue approaching her, putting a hand at their hip and giving a quick scan to make sure there's no sirens about. ]

But if you're looking for fish, there aren't many over here. That way, however... [ They point to the left, glancing down into the water. ] I don't have to breathe or anything, so I can help you look for them from underwater. It'll save time.

[ Who knows, maybe the fish would be drawn to super shimmery stuff too!! ]

Oh - yes, that would be helpful!

[ she didn't take it into consideration at first, but it makes perfect sense. though now that it's brought up, it also dawns on her how odd it is for the sirens to take them. do they intend to eat someone who isn't even flesh? or maybe they're just not intelligent enough to realize... ]

If you can lead the way, I'll do my best to get them quickly. We don't know how close by the sirens are, so time is of the essence.

[ Cairngorm is also wondering why they're even here— it's feeling more and more like a waste of time considering the sirens aren't a threat to them and they're not particularly having to work very hard to survive on this island. That certainly isn't helping them feel sympathy for the others that are stranded here, either. ]

Yeah, they swim pretty fast. I can see them when I'm underwater, though, and they're not gonna attack me if they know what's good for them. So I'll warn you. [ That's common courtesy, or at least it would be if getting stranded on islands with man-eating sirens was a common thing. They gesture her over towards the way they intended, the water splashing a bit around their legs as they walk. ] You're going to eat these fish, right?

[ So they should look for big ones!! ]

[ zelda's following, but she's noticeably slower. the bruising on her legs and having to wade through the waters creates noticeable lag, and she's doing her best to keep up with the pace before cairngorm notices. or maybe they're just being kind enough to not comment on it. ]

I am, though I wish otherwise. The sirens picked a very inconvenient island to strand us on. [ intentionally she bets, dastardly beasts. ] Any extras I catch will be shared, so I want to gather as much as I can. People here are weak and we can't let our remaining strength falter.

[ They note that she's going a little slower than they are, slowing their pace (but only slightly). If at all possible, they'd like to stay in front of her just in case anything comes up. Though, they nod without looking back to her, letting her know that they are definitely listening. ]

Well, what we find is all yours. I have all the strength I need.

[ The pair come up to a slight downward slope in the water, the water level rising a bit closer to their waists with each wave. Cairngorm doesn't seem bothered by it, but they throw back a glance to Zelda herself, watching carefully how she's wading through the waves. ]

Before anything else— you better not push yourself with that injury, or whatever that is. [ They look down into the water, as if they're going to be able to tell what's wrong with it by that alone. ] I'll try to draw the fish out closer to shore so you won't have to go out much further, but if it gets to be too much... you really should stop.
