The bad news is that Maya is suffering from malnutrition and fending off Sirens, so she's not swooping to the rescue as gloriously as she could be. Honestly, it takes quite a bit of effort to draw on Artemis and encase the Siren in a solid block of ice before it can spear Guren in the side.
And then she's just kind of sinking to her knees. So, hi. ]

It's only when they get this brief free moment that he rushes over to Maya, crouching beside her.]
Maya. [Thank goodness she's alive, though he's not sure he could say she's alright.]
Let's get you to a raft. Can you stand?
no subject
[ So she'll flap a hand, but she's still able to smile, so that's probably something. ]
Are you okay, Guren?
no subject
[That's his answer, waiting and watching their surroundings, in case any sirens want to take advantage of them as sitting ducks. If Maya doesn't feel well enough to stand soon, he'll just have to help her.
He's injured and bruised himself, but it's exhaustion that's got him the most beat. Still, he refuses to let any of that show, right now, staring seriously around them.]
You don't have to use it again, so just focus on recovering.
no subject
[ Maya's only taking an additional moment, though, before she's pushing herself to her feet with a slight grimace. ]
Thanks for managing to make it out here.
no subject
[That's his lame answer, and he watches her stand, hover-handing just in case she might need extra support before he looks at their surroundings again. More sirens, every direction, and he draws his blade again, scowling.]
We're heading back towards the water over there, so just keep moving, and I'll cover you along the way. Got it?
no subject
[ Well, she won't protest that. It gives her smile a slight, lopsided tilt but it vanishes as she narrows her eyes and settles back into the situation. ]
Got it. Let me know if you need healing-- I can probably manage one more.
[ But for now, she'll gather up the rest of her strength and book it for the water. ]

[He's quick to say that, moving to follow her. Hungry sirens that don't want either of them to leave try to stop them, but Guren takes care of them with his blade. As tired as he is, they're one at a time now, and he can handle it, at least so far. Keep going, Maya!!]
no subject
Well, she's still going, until one of the Sirens wises up and instead of attacking Guren, it pauses and opens his mouth to sing.
And Maya abruptly stops in her tracks. ]
no subject
[Shit. Even for Guren, the siren's song is difficult to block out, but he can still push past it. The ones who were stuck here because of it in the first place? It's no wonder they're less resistant.
He pushes back the one he was fighting off, stabbing through its throat and turning to locate the one singing.]
Snap out of it! [But it's fine if she doesn't, since he's running towards the singing one.]
no subject
But now? Maya couldn't fight it even if she wanted to. Sorry, Guren, at least the singing one will be too busy getting her to turn towards it to really be ready for a fight. ]
no subject
Hey, are you with me? Keep moving!
no subject
Might as well get to the water before any of the others get the same idea. ]

Those closer than that eat his sword, and there aren't too many this close to the boats, thanks to everyone helping out.
The craggy beach makes it a little difficult to navigate, though. He hops up onto one of the taller rocks, reaching for Maya's hand and glancing towards the water.]
Here, board that one there, it's just about ready to go!
no subject
Today, she is not that energetic, but she seems to be doing her best, grasping Guren's hand when he reaches for her and vowing that if she gets brainwashed to meander into the water again that she'll at least remember her boots. ]
If you come back covered in blood, I'm absolutely going to have words for you!
[ Just. Saying. ]
no subject
I'll be sure to jump in the water first, then.
[He's technically already covered in the blood of sirens and a little bit of his own, but it's fine! His uniform is black, you can't tell. His face is mostly just dirty.]
Go on, I'll meet you back there!
no subject
[ Guren, you are far too shounen.
But Maya doesn't protest, settling herself on the raft. She'll check on him later. ]
