Intro Log.

Pussy's in the well. Who put her in? Little Johnny Thin. Who pulled her out? Little Tommy Stout. What a naughty boy was that, To try to drown poor pussy cat, Who never did him any harm, But killed all the mice in the farmer's barn.
Welcome to Awash's first intro log, everyone! Please review the FAQ and rules before playing. Characters have all woken at the bottom of the well in the middle of the town (which seems a lot bigger on the inside, somehow), and it looks like they'll have to put in some work to get out.

ou wake in knee-deep water, cold as ice and stagnant, in a space that is far too echoey and spacious. It feels like a massive cave, but looking up... there's only one small, circular opening that shows grey sky and shines any sort of light.
no subject
[ okay, that's really sketchy. He's never heard of anything like that. ]
If this is a prank, it's a very complicated one.
no subject
[He's unsure about it!]
I really don't think it's a prank at all. I mean, looking at the entire town...
[...He shrugs.]
It's just too much.
no subject
Were there more than that? If you remember where you found them, I'd like to take a look.
[ there might be a clue; Lupin likes to think he might be able to find something the average person couldn't. ]
no subject
Hm... there might've been. I don't mind showing you where, it wasn't far.
[Just one of those random houses.]
This way. [Maybe Lupin really will be able to discern more clues--Minato would be able to believe it. Lupin is Dapper.]
no subject
I appreciate it. [ a beat. ] My name is Lupin, by the way. And you are?
no subject
Lupin III mostly let's be real here, but with the situation as it is, he can't even begin to really place it.]My name's Minato.
[Rolling with it for now! He's sure it'll come to him eventually and surely has no relevance whatsoever to anything.]
It's nice to meet you, Lupin-san. [And in all honesty:] I hope you'll be able to figure out more than I did from them.
no subject
I can't make any promises, but I'll do my best. I like to think I'm not half-bad at solving riddles.
[ if it's that simple, it'll be nice. There's got to be a clue on what's going on somewhere in the town, and he's determined to find it. ]
In any case, it's nice to meet you, too, Minato. Are you from Japan, perhaps?
no subject
That's right. [A beat. He pauses...and shakes his head a little to himself, rueful. (Stop sleeping in class and pay more attention, Minato.)]
Sorry, where are you from...? I can't really place your name. [It sounds foreign, no doubt, and yet that nagging familiarity muddles things.]
no subject
[ he's never been to Japan, nor was he planning on going there anytime soon... nor did he see all that many Japanese people in London. So what does that mean? Maybe that weird kid from before was right. ]
I wonder how the two of us ended up in the same place. Even if we met in the middle, that's a lot of distance to cover.
no subject
You're right. [He's contemplative for a moment as he glances carefully at the houses along this particular pathway; they all start to look the same without color as a defining characteristic.]
So if everyone here was kidnapped, it was...done all over the world, all at once. ...Somehow.
[Which is such a massive undertaking that it makes Minato's head hurt to even think about it.]
no subject
[ ... there's one more thing on his mind. Lupin pauses as he tries to think of a way to word it that doesn't make him sound mad. ]
There's another thing I'd like to ask you. What year is it?
no subject
... It's 2010. Does that help...?
[For whatever Lupin's concerned about.]
no subject
Well... Not exactly. You see, I thought it was 1853.
[ he doesn't know where he is or when he is. ]
no subject
So.
His response is a probably not too unexpected, eloquent:]
... Huh?
[W...what.]
no subject
[ YOU THINK YOU'RE CONFUSED. ]
no subject
There's a long pause as he contemplates that...and then he frowns slightly, head tilting thoughtfully.]
I don't think I understand what's happening here at all, but...
[But...!!]
Suddenly I feel like I'm expanding my horizons a little.
[Meeting someone from London from 1853...!! Whoa.]
no subject
Still, Minato's casual response lightens his heart a little, and he laughs. ]
As do I! What's it like in 2010? Do you have flying cars?
[ he heard the world was destroyed from Dave, but the introduction of time-traveling into this mess means that's not necessarily true for everyone. Probably. ]
no subject
Sorry, no flying cars.
[Oops.]
But otherwise, 2010 is pretty good. I mean, it's only March, but so far so good anyway...? It seems like a promising year.
How's... 1853? [He's gotta ask, he sure doesn't know.]
no subject
Now that's a shame. [ he smiles, shaking his head slightly. ] As for 1853, shouldn't you already know about it? Surely I don't have anything interesting to tell you.
no subject
I like to think I pay attention in school, but I don't think we've learned much about England in 1853...
[Japan!!]
Besides, I feel like I could learn more about it from someone who's living it.
no subject
[ just normal earth history things, like vampire wars. Lupin frowns a bit at the mention of them, but only very briefly before carrying on. ]
It's not a bad time to be alive, if you ask me. Not perfect, but you're clever, or just resourceful, you can make a decent life for yourself.
no subject
..... Minato's nodding along casually. Sure, sounds fair. He doesn't remember when airships became a thing but sure, airships.......
.... ....]
Wait... what?
[VAMPIRE...WHAT.]
no subject
[ a pause while he regards Minato. ]
... Did something I said not match up?
no subject
[He didn't hallucinate that?]
no subject
[ Japan is far away, but by 2010, they'd have to have heard about that... ]
