ou wake in knee-deep water, cold as ice and stagnant, in a space that is far too echoey and spacious. It feels like a massive cave, but looking up... there's only one small, circular opening that shows grey sky and shines any sort of light. It looks like a long trip upwards, a small cylinder with walls of brick that's just a little too high to reach, even when jumping. Getting out is probably going to be a bit of a task, especially considering the water is more than cold enough to make limbs go numb. The dark makes it impossible to see much further, but the space seems large, all filled with water, but with no other way out, stone walls the only thing for an intrepid explorer to find. But most importantly of all... you're not alone. Welcome to Awash's first intro log, everyone! Please review the FAQ and rules before playing. Characters have all woken at the bottom of the well in the middle of the town (which seems a lot bigger on the inside, somehow), and it looks like they'll have to put in some work to get out. Once out, they'll be free to explore the various locations the Town has to offer at will. Just try not to die on any of the far-too-rickety walkways. [ ... there's one more thing on his mind. Lupin pauses as he tries to think of a way to word it that doesn't make him sound mad. ]

There's another thing I'd like to ask you. What year is it?

[Honestly, it's a weird question, but how can they say what's weird anymore after all of this?]

[ that's not even the same year Dave was from?!? what the fuck. His expression tightens a little. ]

Well... Not exactly. You see, I thought it was 1853.

[ he doesn't know where he is or when he is. ]

[This is the first Minato's heard about this.

His response is a probably not too unexpected, eloquent:]

1853. I was living in London under Queen Alexandrina Victoria until I woke up here. And you're not even the first person to tell me you're from 150 years in the future.

[ YOU THINK YOU'RE CONFUSED. ]

[... That was not at all what he was expecting, holy cow.

There's a long pause as he contemplates that...and then he frowns slightly, head tilting thoughtfully.]

I don't think I understand what's happening here at all, but...

[But...!!]

Suddenly I feel like I'm expanding my horizons a little.

[Meeting someone from London from 1853...!! Whoa.]

[ that makes two of them. Maybe they'll find some mysterious invisible ink in those books that explains what's going on - but this little discovery is making Lupin feel less confident about finding anything at all. Dave had been a little squirrely; Minato seems much more level-headed, and now, he's got two instances of people saying they're from the future. The odds are stacked against him.

Still, Minato's casual response lightens his heart a little, and he laughs. ]

As do I! What's it like in 2010? Do you have flying cars?

[ he heard the world was destroyed from Dave, but the introduction of time-traveling into this mess means that's not necessarily true for everyone. Probably. ]

[They gotta hold onto the good and lighthearted things amidst all of this insanity. Lupin seeming amused by it helps too, and Minato just snorts softly.]

Sorry, no flying cars.

[Oops.]

But otherwise, 2010 is pretty good. I mean, it's only March, but so far so good anyway...? It seems like a promising year.

How's... 1853? [He's gotta ask, he sure doesn't know.]

[ so, presumably, the world isn't destroyed, then. Which only opens more questions, really - the possibility of diverging worlds and variable fates. Fortunately for Minato, he decides to keep those thoughts to himself for the moment. ]

Now that's a shame. [ he smiles, shaking his head slightly. ] As for 1853, shouldn't you already know about it? Surely I don't have anything interesting to tell you.

I like to think I pay attention in school, but I don't think we've learned much about England in 1853...

Besides, I feel like I could learn more about it from someone who's living it.

Fair enough! Let's see... Well, we're living under the lovely Queen Victoria's rule. The invention of the steam engine really changed the landscape of the country. London's the most advanced city in the world now, I'd say. There are plenty of people making lots of money off of automobiles and airships and things like that. The Vampire Wars really boosted the economy, too.

[ just normal earth history things, like vampire wars. Lupin frowns a bit at the mention of them, but only very briefly before carrying on. ]

It's not a bad time to be alive, if you ask me. Not perfect, but you're clever, or just resourceful, you can make a decent life for yourself.

..... Minato's nodding along casually. Sure, sounds fair. He doesn't remember when airships became a thing but sure, airships.......

[ a pause while he regards Minato. ]

That's right. [ another pause. Lupin's not stupid; he sees where this is going. ] You didn't know about it?

[ Japan is far away, but by 2010, they'd have to have heard about that... ]
