ou wake in knee-deep water, cold as ice and stagnant, in a space that is far too echoey and spacious. It feels like a massive cave, but looking up... there's only one small, circular opening that shows grey sky and shines any sort of light. It looks like a long trip upwards, a small cylinder with walls of brick that's just a little too high to reach, even when jumping. Getting out is probably going to be a bit of a task, especially considering the water is more than cold enough to make limbs go numb. The dark makes it impossible to see much further, but the space seems large, all filled with water, but with no other way out, stone walls the only thing for an intrepid explorer to find. But most importantly of all... you're not alone. Welcome to Awash's first intro log, everyone! Please review the FAQ and rules before playing. Characters have all woken at the bottom of the well in the middle of the town (which seems a lot bigger on the inside, somehow), and it looks like they'll have to put in some work to get out. Once out, they'll be free to explore the various locations the Town has to offer at will. Just try not to die on any of the far-too-rickety walkways. [Wow that is quite a bit of purple. It gives Yusuke brief pause, but only brief since his friend group all run around in masks and costumes anyway.]

Were I to be trapped in some sort of hell, I would prefer it at least possess a modicum of colour... red, black, anything!

[Maybe? Keith has to admit the colorless thing is kind of disturbing but it's hardly the worst part of things. Creepy.]

[Don't mind him he's been asking this it's an informal survey while Keith tries to figure a few things out.]

...I suppose so. This may be the epitome or quite close to what I could call a personal hell for me.

[Uh oh. Watch out or he's going to start thinking about this subject very hard, in terms of personal hells or whatnot.

He does puff up a little at the question.] I am not dead. I would certainly remember if I had died.

[Like. Don't get Keith wrong, he finds it weird and unsettling too. But this gu seems genuinely disturbed by it.

And then Keith's shoulders ease just a little at the answer.] Okay. Okay, good. So maybe it's not actually hell then, literally.

[He says it very promptly...

Yusuke scrutinises him, however, frowning and inclining his head.] Did you believe this a form of hell?

Huh. I guess that makes being stuck here all the worse. Sorry.

[Not that being stuck here is great even if one doesn't desperately miss colors.

Keith hesitates before answering Yusuke's question now.]

Hell. Some weird afterlife. I don't know. It was a possibility. Maybe.

You sound very uncertain.

[Especially talking about his own life...]

I suppose you had some dangerous circumstances you were embroiled in if you believe being in an afterlife was a possibility?

[he's not wholly convinced this isn't a nightmare or something yet but the people here are very real in their reactions so he ends up speaking quite seriously...]

Yeah. Well. I guess I am.

[Uncertain. He hates not knowing too. Not that there's any way he would know if his sacrifice actually worked if it actually happened. But that's beside the point.

He hesitates before nodding at the question.]

We were in the middle of a battle. My ship was on a collision course.

[On that he had deliberately set, but for now he leaves that detail out.] And that's the last thing I remember.

Collision course?

[When Yusuke thinks 'ship', it's not spaceship, so of course the natural conclusion (even with Keith's odd outfit is):]

Are you some manner of sailor?

Yeah, with a Galra cruiser.

[Which, is not a schooner or a yacht. And Keith blinks at being asked if he's a sailor and.

Uh.]

Um... not exactly. Actually not at all. I mean my space ship. [An awkward little gesture up at the sky.]

[listen it was a normal conclusion ok]

A space ship-- ah! Ah, yes, of course! Yes, that would make more sense, given your clothing.

[He raises his hands, fingers forming a little picture frame that he just holds up so Keith is in it. Yes. He absolutely has that sci-fi aesthetic.]

[This is when Keith realize that he's been chatting with this guy and is still wearing his mask, and even among the Blade that's not entirely usual. He's not in combat or anything. So he'll lift a hand to the side of his face, mask flickering away before he looks back at Yusuke, curiously.

What is he doing. With his fingers.]

Yeah, it's a space suit, so I-- [Yeah okay he can't keep talking.] What the quiznak are you doing?

[Yusuke lowers his hands, blinking in surprise at him. He... he expected more antenna or things more alien. Maybe glowing eyes. Keith does not have either. Hmm. Well, the effect of his mask disappearing was interesting.]

I was placing you in frame. Trying to see you on your spaceship.

[it's a thing he does]

... I will admit, I was picturing something different under your mask. But I suppose there is no proof that people from space look that different from us.

Oh.

[Right. In frame.]

[With the picturing??? Anyway. Focus.]

Well. Most aliens do look pretty different. I mean, some look pretty close to humans, but not all that many.

[Mostly Alteans. And even then there are definite differences, even before you get into all the weird magic abilities some Alteans possess. Or Coran's moustache.

But he adds, to clear it up.]

I'm from Earth though. [Not "I'm human." because that's not entirely true. But he is an Earthling in origin anyway.]

[Yusuke solemnly nods. It helps.

But, hrm. This sounds odd and different from what he knows. He considers this news seriously, his arms folding over his chest.]

It is true that Earth has spacecrafts, but... We have yet to meet aliens. Or do much more than travel a small distance from our planet, as far as I understand.

[Not that he's doubting it because like the mask thing was pretty obviously some kind of alien technology and/or magic, but he's curious. And it's important to absorb all kinds of knowledge for the sake of his art!!]

Yeah. Even where I'm from, humans have made it to the edge of our solar system, but that's it. But there are alien civilizations out there with technology eons beyond that. My friends and I kinda got caught up in an intergalactic war.

[That said, well.] So I guess it's possible your Earth and my Earth aren't the same Earth. Could be a parallel reality.

The technological and cultural aspects of Earth differing due to one small event and then set on an entirely different course in history...

[Mmhmm. And there have been artworks focused on such concept, definitely not new though if they're given actual proof of such a thing... Yusuke's nodding to himself, itching for a canvas.]

Fascinating sure, but also a pain in the quiznak. Parallel realities are weird. And confusing.

[He remembers the not!Shiro in that one, and the whole evil Alteans thing. Just. Really unsettling all around.]

So... aside from the no color thing, you're taking all of this in stride pretty well.

[What is a quiznak he's about to ask but he pauses.]

I will say that I'm not yet completely convinced this is some manner of dream or-- [in a Palace, or in Mementos but those won't be understood and he ought to keep his Phantom Thieves thing on the down-low] --or something else.

However, if this is to be my reality, I should have an open mind so I am ready for unusual occurrences. It would not be the first time I have had my perspective and worldview challenged utterly.

[No one knows. But that doesn't mean that Keith will still correct the use of it so there's that.]

A dream? Seems like a pretty messed up dream. And if you're dreaming it, I'm dreaming it too.

[Not cool. Keith refuses to be the fragment of someone else's imagination or subconscious.]

It wouldn't? So you've seen some weird stuff before, huh? [He knows that feeling.]

[Yusuke nods, his fingers brushing back his hair.]

I have. At this point, more than I feel I could accurately count.

[...Though he doesn't elaborate. Very secret. Shh.]

So... do you do the cool mysterious type thing a lot? Do you practice?

[Very secret. Keith doesn't know what to make about so vague a statement. But then he has his own secrets (none of his secrets are secret anymore honestly, back home, so it's almost weird here) so he can't exactly complain about someone keeping theirs, when they just met.]

It looks like it takes practice.

[But he's not above poking Yusuke for it. ...he seems like an okay guy. Keith might even be playing.]

[Well doesn't Yusuke look pleased as punch that he's being called cool and mysterious. Even if he's being played with (he doesn't even realise that he's being poked at, STRAIGHT OVER HIS HEAD).]

Hmm. That is not something I hear often.

Perhaps I ought to keep things to myself more if that's how I'm seen? A mysterious artist is bound to generate quite a bit of interest.

[Oh. Oh he took it real seriously. Keith, who has been in a mood since he arrived in this place, can't quite help a smile.]

Yeah, no. I think you're onto something. Mysterious, brooding artists are a type.

[A romance novel trope, but Keith is kind enough not to say that. This guy is okay.] ...you're an artist? Like... you paint or something?

[KEITH MAKES CONSPRIACY THEORY WALLS. That's like art, right?]

[Yusuke will totally take it anyway, though he'll have to strike off brooding. He doesn't brood. (He absolutely broods when he's caught in an art block.)]

Yes, I paint. I sketch, draw, though I don't have any canvases or any of my other art supplies with me.
