Event Eight.

To thee I'll return, overburdened with care;
The heart's dearest solace will smile on me there.
No more from the cottage again will I roam,
Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home.

he Town is quiet this week. No sudden quests on the forum post, no roars of werewolves in the distance... just peaceful, peaceful quiet. Of course, it's hot as hell right now, but that aside, it's pretty pleasant. You probably don't want to wander around the Town right now, but...

Naturally, now's when the Town is going to start thoroughly encouraging you to do just that.

You do want to find your doorway back home, don't you?

Better get searching! And don't mind the other worlds you might end up stumbling into first.

Welcome to Awash's eighth event log, everyone! Further information on this event can be found here at the OOC post.

You are welcome to start your own posts or logs for this event as well. If there are any questions, please ask them here. Thank you!

Not all espers work for the government. Most of them are just regular people who want to live their lives peacefully. And just because you can help someone doesn’t mean they won’t also think of ways that you could help their enemies, too. [After all, there are just as many people who call the three of them “treasures” as there are people who call them “uncontrollable threats”.]

Besides predictions are never a hundred percent accurate because there are too many possibilities. We can only choose the most likely one and do what we can.

[It pains him, thinking that anyone like Kaoru and Shiho could be treated unfairly for their gifts, despite what they've done to help people before.] They shouldn't suspect espers just because of the way they were born.

[And then, gently, Izuku asks--] "We"? [Shiho's usually so tight-lipped about what she can do, Izuku's a little surprised by the acknowledgement.]

There are lots of things people shouldn’t do. Sometimes they don’t know any better. [And at that time it was their job as special espers, as level 7s to prove them wrong.

Or destroy them, either way works as far as Shiho is concerned. She tenses at that last bit though, wondering briefly if she could just...... lie about this. But of course she knows she can’t. It’s too blatant, too much of something she knows she can’t go back on if she tries it.]

.......Yeah. “We”. [It’s not an answer, she knows that. But she also knows that she needs a moment right now to remind herself that this was Izuku. Sure, she’d seen him punch a monster and send it flying but he was no more intimidating than Minamoto to her. He’s a good person, she reminds herself.]

[This time, Izuku makes sure that he holds her gaze, keeping his voice as gentle as it was before.]

I already suspected something, especially after you got that headache last time, but... we don't need to talk about it if you're not ready to.

[He understands the way that her world works, in the danger of standing out against what's considered "normal". He knows that Shiho has her reasons for being so reluctant to talk, and he'd rather not pressure her if she's not comfortable enough to.]

I’m ready!

[It comes out way too defensive and she flinches at that, taking a deep, calming breath and then trying again:]

...I’m ready. I.... meant to tell you anyway. I think... I can trust you. And it’s not like it’s a big deal. [Or so she says, shrugging as if that could somehow make it easier even though her arms are crossing and then uncrossing in the next second, arms kept tucked and never reaching out. Like this she was protected. Like this she wasn’t threatening.]

You might not... even want to hear about it. There are people like me back home, too. It’s not... special or anything. [And pretty much all high-level psychometers were like her, he’d probably recognize the type: flashy and arrogant, sarcastic and with a real difficulty when it came to connecting with other people because one too many people had flinched away from them when they were kids.]
