Event Eight.
![]() | |
The heart's dearest solace will smile on me there. No more from the cottage again will I roam, Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home. | |
Welcome to Awash's eighth event log, everyone! Further information on this event can be found here at the OOC post. |

So, thanks Loop.]
Uh— no. He kinda looks like a big toad.
[Anyway, on that note, come into his spooky yard.]
no subject
That's a mean thing to say about your old man. You'll look like that one day, too.
[ following Okuyasu into the spooky yard...!! and being struck speechless by it being... That Way. ]
Uh...
no subject
Nah, not really. [And he has to pause and look back at Lupin when he's too shook by the terrible house to even be sassy.] You gonna stand there staring or come on?
no subject
[ he's way worse off than Lupin imagined... he tries to say it in the most innocent way possible, but he can't help sounding a little concerned-slash-dismayed. ]
no subject
[This he says with a pointed gesture for Lupin to move his butt!!! Let's go!! He's self-aware of his house's shittiness, which is better than the alternative.]
no subject
[ Okuyasu sure wears a lot of golden jewelry and stuff for living in a place like this?? That's Lupin's other thought. The modern age truly is mysterious... Anyway, he's going with him now, although he's still glancing around. Even things like telephone poles in the vicinity are weird and new to him. ]
This is Japan, right?
no subject
Huh? Oh- [oh yeah lupin is Old and European] Yeah! Morioh. We got like, two restaurants and a convenience store, otherwise you gotta go into the city for anything good.
no subject
So this is a rural area? It definitely looks different from what Minato showed me.
[ probably because Minato took him to a big city shopping mall. ]
... Not much like the villages I know, though.
no subject
[Come on, Lupin... be reasonable.]
Isn't a village like a couple cows and some log cabins?
no subject
no subject
[His stuff is like an air mattress and some comics and exams he did poorly on, but do not touch.]
no subject
[ you can't tell him something like that and expect him to listen... ]
no subject
That's where my big bro got killed, so we're not going up there. And I don't wanna talk about it.
no subject
Sorry. I had no idea...
[ he didn't even know Okuyasu had a brother in the first place. ]
no subject
Yeah, well— never mind. Let's just go look around.
no subject
[ here's the part where Lupin would talk about it, but Okuyasu very clearly said he didn't want to, so he keeps his mouth shut. All he has to add is this: ]
... If you ever need someone to talk to, I'll listen, you know.
no subject
Okuyasu does not go to pick up any of his scant belongings, instead giving the room a cursory look through and then leaving. No dad there!!
Now then. Mr. Frills.] Since when are you Mr. Talk-about-my-feelings? Want me to write you a poem about it?
no subject
The mention of the poem does get a wry smile out of him. ]
Maybe you'd feel better if you did? [ please don't, he was trying to be serious and he can't be serious about oku's poetry ] I'm not trying to be anything I'm not. We're just more alike than you'd think.
no subject
[NERD... Lupin is the kind of guy Okuyasu would shove into lockers if they were the same age and also classmates. Being an old man is the only thing that saves his dignity.
But anyway, this trip around the house is pretty useless as it continues, as it becomes clearer and clearer that no one is home... Okuyasu is increasingly frustrated, eventually just stopping dead in the hall with his head down and his hands shoved in his pockets, sulking. He's sulking. Hmm grumble mumble--]
What'd you mean, we're alike?
no subject
... You're always calling me fancy, but the truth is, I've been homeless most of my life. And the one person I'd call family was killed by the mob about two years ago.
[ this is probably the most he's actually said about his past to anyone here?! Normally, he hates to talk about it - but it's exactly because Okuyasu is another low-down kid who doesn't seem to hold Lupin in any high regard that he feels more free to say it. Besides, he's the one who started it; he may as well explain himself. ]
I won't say I know what your life's been like or anything like that. Frankly, I don't know much about you at all. But I like you, so the offer stands.
no subject
That really goes to show something or other, whatever, he's not equipped to get all deep about it. But he does appreciate it, in a way that he has no idea how to express. People don't often just open up to him because they like him enough--]
...Oh. Huh. [....] My dad and my big bro—both of 'em kinda sucked, but it's not like I got anything else, y'know? To be honest, I don't really want my dad hanging around, but I gotta...
[You know, make the attempt. Somebody in this family has to be a decent human being!!]
no subject
You don't get to pick your family, right? I get it.
[ he'd be the same way - although he also hangs out with some questionable company on purpose. ]
... I'll be honest with you, though - I don't think you'll find him here. I think these places are just illusions of our homes. No people around.
no subject
...Yeah, you're probably right. Lemme just grab some shirts or something and we can get outta here.
[Mission: Dad is a failure, but maybe the real mission was the sad backstories we shared along the way.]
