The heart's dearest solace will smile on me there. No more from the cottage again will I roam, Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home. | |
Welcome to Awash's eighth event log, everyone! Further information on this event can be found here at the OOC post. |

With a fresh cup of sake, he lifts it in thanks and takes another drink! "Ah, so he's like a rambunctious little brother, eh? I know a thing or two about those." He smirks Tonbokiri's way, letting that implication hang in the air. He knows a thing or two because he's done a thing or two. Or attempted it.
"I admit, I mostly care for personal reasons. Mutsunokami ain't always gonna be in my care, so I'd hope he ends up somewhere good." And while he's never asked what year exactly Mutsunokami and Tonbokiri come from, he's sure it's a time long after he's been dead and gone. "So it looks like he did." He takes another sip and lowers his voice, sounding just a touch more serious. "I'm glad."
Ah, but he can't stay serious for long! Not with that question Tonbokiri throws his way. "Hey, hey, stop. The idea of havin' more than one me runnin' around is...well, kind of frightening, if I'm honest, but if ya ever run into someone masquerading as me and he gives the ocean anything less than the highest respect or a shining review, then you can take it from me that he's a damned liar. And a fool."
A bigger sip...!
"...So, yeah, of course I love the ocean. Wish I could go out on it basically all the time. And it's killin' me the one in the town is right there but still out of reach." He...he has a passion. If that weren't obvious.

That touch of seriousness suits him well. Tonbokiri listens, not taking up his cup for now.
Although the man switches immediately to the more lighthearted conversation, he hopes that his smile conveys enough: Mustunokami-dono remains a well-loved and well-cared-for sword.
He laughs- "I chose something too essential to you! Of course, it would not be Sakamoto Ryouma without a love of the sea!" His eyebrows lift in surprise though- "Out of reach? Have you attempted to sail out to the ocean off Chroma?"
He offers the flask again. May he top you up?

Talking about the ocean with Sakamoto Ryouma is a dangerous course of action, though. He's been known to wax poetic about it and if Tonbokiri continues to give him the time of day, it won't be much different now. "Well, y'see, I don't have a ship, not even a boat, so I can't exactly sail on it. But it's less that an' more that it's just...lifeless." He frowns, clearly upset by that fact, but there's nothing he can reasonably do about it. The ocean is huge and vast and for all his confidence is worth, he's still just one man. He can do his part to convince long-time domains to see eye-to-eye, but trying to convince an ocean to act naturally is way above any abilities he may have.
He will happily take that offer for yet more drink.
"I actually had a similar conversation with Mutsunokami, back before I knew who he was. But we both agreed that the ocean and basically all the big bodies of water in Chroma feel wrong. The ocean's supposed t'be alive, y'know? And I don't mean all the fish and other creatures in it, though that definitely counts for part of it. I mean the ocean itself is a force all its own. We may have learned to travel across it and tame it to that extent, but that's just barely brushin' the surface. The ocean can mess your whole day up in the blink of an eye if you're not careful. Hell, it can swallow you whole in an instant even if ya are bein' careful. 'Cause it's...it's that much of a wild creature. Ya can work with it, but ya gotta respect it at the same time." He takes a drink, but his monologue isn't over juuust yet.
"Nah, but in Chroma, it's just...there. Sure, there are some wimpy little waves every now and then, but it's nothin' like what it should be. I get the feeling if you so much as wade into the shallows you'll never come back out."
no subject
Tonbokiri nods along to Ryouma's monologue, but he genuinely is listening carefully. His own home province of Mikata was mostly field and forest, so he has little knowledge of the ocean. But he can feel a keen understanding listening to Ryouma describe it. How alive it is supposed to be, and how very dead the water here is in comparison.
It doesn't surprise him too much that he and Mutsunokami-dono had this conversation as well. That sword certainly took on his master's love for the sea.
"Perhaps there is hope that it will come alive again yet, once we restore its colour."
no subject
(But Tonbokiri is pretty cool, so he could get away with playing older brother, probably.)
Restoring the ocean's color is definitely always int he back of Ryouma's mind, though. But it also frustrates him if he thinks about it for too long because how do they do that? Honestly, how have they been restoring any colors at all? To his knowledge, there haven't been any obvious instructions, and there sure as hell haven't been any captors or overlords making an appearance to clarify anything. Which doesn't help.
"Mm. And I bet that'll take a whole lotta people and a whole lotta concentration." Since. You know. The ocean is quite vast. "But when we do it, I'll be one of the first out there celebrating."
no subject
"May we toast that success then, as well!" And may they have the sake to do it with.
"I can imagine that it will take at least that much. Like the sun was. And Mr. White had said it was to restore the sun, so hopefully we will likewise know what we are working towards next time."
