[ With Minato so kindly volunteering himself for this particular quest, there was no way Ryo wouldn't take advantage of his offer. After their brief chat on the forum, Ryo heads over to the church and waits outside, rifle hefted over one shoulder like a club. Flavo's the best place for a quest like this; there's a decent amount of open space and it's the district with the fewest people. ]

[And, obediently, here comes target practice...! Minato seems pretty unconcerned, all things considered; his hands are tucked into his pockets as he heads on over to the church. It's an easy landmark to find, at least.

And when he spies Ryo there, he lifts a hand to wave.]

[ Ryo looks to Minato when he approaches, inclining his head slightly in greeting. ]

Hello. [ He nods. ] I'm Ryo Asuka.

Asuka-san then-- nice to meet you.

[He'll return that bow of his head, expression pretty peaceful. A business meeting to shoot apples off of heads, no big deal.]

I'm Minato. Minato Arisato. You volunteered pretty easily, so... I guess you're probably a pretty good shot?

[ Just another day in Minato's life tbh. ]

I am. I was part of the group that dealt with the bogeyman; my role was to stun it with this rifle. [ And Guren wouldn't have included him in the plan to kill the bogeyman if he weren't good at shooting things since he has no cool powers or close-range combat skills. ]

I'd give you a demonstration of my skills before shooting the apple off of your head, but I prefer not to be wasteful with bullets when ammunition is scarce. I hope you don't mind.

DEXTERA | QUEST 19

Dextera. Do you think you would be able to defeat a chimera using only one hand?

[ HEY DEX IT'S YOUR BUDDY RYO... also he sends this at six in the morning because he gets up early to make the most of the sunlight hours. ]

[ dextera is not up at six, but he’s not much later than that—his sleeping has become somewhat regular, especially with the emergence of the sun. it’s easier to follow.

any sleepiness is immediately washed away when he sees ryo in his inbox, and he types his response quickly, chest fluttering. ]

Ryo.

I think I could. Would you like to take that quest together?

he does arrive at the designated spot within the designated time, though. his sword is easy to hold in either hand, and the way that it works means that his strikes don’t need to be skilled. they just need to connect.

[ when he sees ryo, and immediately, he sticks out his hand. ]

Ryo arrives not long after Dextera, rifle tucked away under his coat. He's able to shoot a gun single-handedly if he has to, though it's harder without being able to use the other hand to steady the weapon. At least this time he doesn't have a dozen cuts from being flung through a window and the weather is clear with no rain to hinder his ability to aim properly. ]

Hey. [ He immediately takes hold of Dextera's hand, squeezing it firmly. ] Before we head in, how familiar are you with the Chimera in Greek mythology?

DEXTERA & AKECHI | QUEST 16

[ Gather a strand of unicorn hair. This quest doesn't sound too difficult, though he's familiar enough with unicorn lore to know that they're supposedly only able to be tamed by a virgin. Briefly, he considers inquiring Akechi and Dextera about their virginity status, but decides against it because a) that's inappropriate and b) it's possible that these unicorns don't care about that. Maybe they've joined the 21st century and realized that it's an antiquated social concept for regulating sexual behaviour.

He sends Akechi a text asking if he's interested in completing the quest of him, voluntelling Dextera again, before informing poor Dex that the three of them are going to tackle the unicorn quest together. Once that's done, he heads over to the edge of the forest and waits for them there. ]

[ dextera, on the other hand, doesn’t actually know much about unicorns. they’re mentioned in the bible… but they’re probably not “unicorns” as the books in the library might tell them. biblical unicorns are creatures of great strength, and based on what everyone else has been saying about this quest, brute force is probably not going to get them to succeed here. ]

[ still, uh, as he approaches, he’s not sure that he’s the most appropriate person for this quest except that he listens really well. surely akechi alone would be enough. ]

Honestly, when it comes to mythology and folklore, virginity isn't so much about sexual behavior as it is about purity, as outdated a concept as that might be. And while he hasn't exactly been with anyone, Akechi can hardly say he's all that pure anymore. His heart, at least, isn't.

Still, he approaches the small group at the scheduled time and place with his usual smile on his face, and a wave of his hand in greeting. ]

Oh, everyone is already here! I hope I haven't kept you waiting long, Asuka-kun, Dextera-san.

[ He was originally going to ask Akechi, but according to the requirements they need a red and a different color. Dex is necessary for them to be able to complete the quest.

Ryo greets Dextera with a slight incline of his head and looks to Akechi when he approaches, shaking his head at his words. ]

Not at all, Akechi-san. [ He replies with a polite smile curving his lips. ] Let's go find those unicorns.

[ No point in standing there to chitchat; he motions for them to follow and starts walking toward the trees. ]

Did you know that ancient Greek writers of natural history believed unicorns lived in India? The earliest known reference to the unicorn is in a book called Indica written by the classical Greek physician Ctesias in the fifth century BC.

[ ryo is… much more civil, much more polite with akechi than he is with dextera, but dextera hasn’t forgotten that special kindness ryo showed him in making him coffee. ryo didn’t do much else but allow him to stay there, but for dextera, that was exactly what he wanted. ]

[ The ribbon he got from doing the shooting quest with Minato initially seemed useless, but once it turns out to be capable of producing bullets Ryo decides that he would like to obtain another one; the possibility of getting twice the bullets is too good to pass up, and he wants an extra in case the other one is ever lost or destroyed.

Good thing he knows a blue who'll do as told and agree to doing this quest with him. ]

Dextera, are you busy?

No.

[ well, he’s not. that is the first thing he replies with, before he considers his answer again and decides that actually isn’t how he particularly wants to talk to ryo. he sends another message, in addition. ]

Do you need something, Ryo?

I need you for the apple shooting quest.

I've already done the quest once and the reward turned out to be very useful, so I want to obtain another one.

[ normally dextera would jump at the chance to spend time with ryo… and he’s grateful, sure, but his heart isn’t completely in it. in place of that usual enthusiasm, he thinks about how it might help clear his mind to be around ryo for a little while. ]

All right. I understand. Where should we meet?

[apocalypticist]

[ Something about Dextera... seems off, but Ryo doesn't think about it for longer than a couple of seconds. ]

Outside the church in Flavo in thirty minutes. Bring an apple.

AKECHI | in which satan and a detective drink coffee

[apocalypticist]

[ The memory sharing quest had rewarded him with a tin of coffee beans. A month later, he only has a little left, and he's kind of in the mood to invite someone over for a chat over coffee. He may not be much of a people person, but he supposes he needs to socialize sometimes—humans are inherently social creatures, after all.

He'd rather spend his time with Akira, but him not being here forces him talk to other people. Hm, Akechi seems like the type who would enjoy coffee, and he probably didn't get any since he didn't fully participate in the quest. ]

Hello, Akechi-san. If you're not busy today, would you like to come over for a cup of coffee?

[ In all honesty, Akechi didn't miss coffee as much as he missed everything that he associated with it-- Leblanc, a place where he could find some small comfort and be himself, and a certain barista he had far too many complex feelings for. Smell, flavor... none of that really mattered to him.

Still, he's pleasantly surprised when he opens his laptop to find that invitation. Ryo was sensible to a fault, someone he could make easy conversation with, but also prompted no strong emotions. That almost sounds like a vacation from all the inner turmoil he's been dealing with lately. ]

Absolutely, Asuka-kun. I can make it in about a half hour. Would that be all right?

[apocalypticist]

That's all right.

[ After responding, he goes to put on a pot of coffee so it's ready by the time Akechi arrives. A pleasant aroma begins to waft through the kitchen, but it smells better than it tastes; if done right, good coffee shouldn't be very bitter at all, but this definitely is too bitter. There's a sweetish aftertaste, though, with fruity and caramel flavor notes, hinting at what it could've been like in more skilled hands.

When he hears someone knock on the door, he answers quickly, inclining his head in greeting when he sees Akechi. ]

Come in.

Good afternoon, Asuka-kun. [ A nod of his head in greeting. ] Thank you for inviting me over.

[ Pleasantries out of the way, Akechi steps inside, his nostrils immediately filled with the unmistakable aroma of coffee. It certainly brings back memories-- memories that he's not sure are welcome right now. Memories that already feel too distant, too faded. ]

I see you've made preparations in advance. The smell is delicious.

Thank you, Akechi-san.

[ The smell certainly is nice, but Akechi is in for disappointment. He closes the door behind them before heading into the kitchen to grab two cups from the cabinet. The well-worn cups have a chipped rim and a pattern of flowers painted on the side, probably once a bright yellow or pink but has now faded to a dull gray that's only barely visible. Ryo pours coffee into both cups and brings them over to the kitchen table before sitting down.

Once Akechi is seated across from him, he says: ]

You should tell me a little about yourself. [ He says, pulling his cup to his mouth for a sip. Can't have coffee without a little smalltalk. ] I believe you've mentioned on the network that you work alongside the police?
